Optimization of Concentrated Acid Hydrolysis of Waste Paper Using Response Surface Methodology

  • Waste paper stands for the major biodegradable organic fraction of most of municipal solid waste. The potential of waste paper for glucose production was investigated in this current work. The pretreatment was accomplished by first subjecting waste paper to disintegration time (30 s), followed by ink removal of disintegrated waste paper using an deinking agent. Concentrated acid hydrolysis of waste paper with sulfuric acid was optimized to maximize glucose conversion. The concentrated acid hydrolysis conditions for waste paper (disintegrated time: 30 s, deinking agent loading : 15 ml) were optimized by using central composite design and response surface methodology. The optimization process employed a central composite design, where the investigated variables were acid concentration (60~80%), loading sulfuric acid (1~5 ml) and reaction time (1~5 h). All the tested variables were identified to have significant effects (p < 0.05) on glucose conversion. The optimum concentrated acid hydrolysis conditions were acid concentration of 70.8%, loading sulfuric acid of 3.2 ml and a reaction time of 3.6 h. This research of concentrated acid hydrolysis was a promising method to improve glucose conversion for waste paper.

폐액증발기 농축폐액 폴리머고화 타당성 연구 (A Feasibility Study on the Polymer Solidification of Evaporator Concentrated Wastes)

  • 폐액증발기 농축폐액의 폴리머고화를 위하여 붕산 함유 건조분말에 액상규산나트륨을 과립화제로 활용하여 점적 형태로 분사하고 평균 $2{\sim}4mm$ 크기의 과립을 제조하는 농축폐액 과립화 설비를 제작하였다. 또한 폐수지 폴리머 고형화에 대해 미국 원자력규제위원회(NRC)의 인증을 받은 신규 고화기술을 과립화된 농축폐액에 성공적으로 적용하였다. 상기 고화설비는 기계적인 혼합 대신 중력을 이용한 in-situ 고화처리 방식으로 폐기물의 추가적인 부피증가가 없고 폐기물 적재량을 최대화할 수 있다. 생산된 폴리머 고화체의 성능평가를 위해 화재시험, 압축강도시험, 침출 및 침수시험, 방사선조사시험, 열순환시험을 표준시험법에 따라 수행하였다.

붕산농축폐액 유리화 타당성 연구 (Feasibility Study on the Vitrification of Concentrated Boric Acid Waste)

  • 가압경수로 원전의 농축폐액건조설비에서 발생된 농축폐액 건조물을 유리화 하는 방안이 연구되어 왔다. 중저준위 방사성폐기물을 유리화할 경우 최종 생성물은 내구성이 우수하고 현저한 부피저감 효과의 장점을 가지고 있다. 붕산농축폐액에 대한 유리화 타당성 연구는 분말시료의 전처리 방법 개발, 유리조성 프로그램을 이용한 유리개발 및 실증시험으로 수행되었다. 분말시료에 대한 전처리 방안으로는 유리화설비에 투입하기 전에 고형성을 갖도록 펠렛화하는 것이다. 농축폐액 성분중 Na와 B의 함량 분포는 유리속에 용융되는 정도와 설비로부터의 폐기물 배출 처리에 영향을 주기 때문에 이를 고려하여 유리조성이 개발되어야 한다. 실증시험에서는 폐기물 투입률, 배기체 특성 및 최종 생성물인 유리고화체의 특성이 검토되었다. 본 연구는 붕산농축폐액에 대한 유리고화체의 물리화학적 특성을 검토하고 유리화 타당성을 확인하는데 목적이 있다.

  • A quantitative analytical method of highly concentrated PCB is established in the research. With the quantitative analytical method PCB of insulating oil was examined. The following conclusions are derived from this research. 1. The recovery ratio was 95.7% with the quantitative analytical method, which indicates it can be used for the analysis of PCB. 2. PCB concentration of insulation oil in waste condenser was found to be 21.2% thru 13.85% , which was highly concentrated. 3. PCB insulation oil in waste condenser was same as PCB-42.

  • 원자력발전소에서 발생하는 방사성 폐액은 일반적으로 액체폐기물처리계통 폐액증발기 및 농축 폐액건조설비에서 증발 및 건조 공정을 통해 수분을 함유하지 않은 분말형태로 변한다. 이 분말형태의 폐기물은, 취급 시와 처분 후 안전성을 확보할 수 있도록, 파라핀과 균일하게 혼합되어 고화된 후 철제드럼에 포장된다. 농축폐액건조설비를 이용하여 농축폐액을 건조시킨 후 분말 형태의 폐기물을 파라핀과 혼합하는 공정을 수행할 때, 방사성 폐액 중 붕소와 나트륨의 몰비가 0.2를 초과하는 경우, 분말형태의 폐기물이 파라핀과 균일하게 혼합되지 않고 층을 이루어 분리되어 드럼에 안정고화가 잘 안되는 경우가 발생하였고 또한 일부는 드럼화 전에 설비 내에 고착되는 현상이 발생하는 것을 경험하였다.

농업폐기물 소각에 따른 대기오염 실태 및 위해성 평가 (Risk Assessment and Air Pollution by the Open Burning of Agricultural Waste and Residues)

  • Waste policies with waste metering system and recycling in 1995 have contributed to the reduction of solid waste generation. Now rural areas as well as urban areas produce less amount of solid wastes in terms of per capita. However most policies in relation to waste issue have been concentrated in urban areas. Large portion of agricultural waste in rural region are being illegally treated such as open incineration or burned out on the road. In this study, we assessed the atmospheric air quality and health risk by illegal open incineration in rural region. In case of benzene level, worst concentration during illegal open incineration was 0.23 ppm and cancer risk by exposure was estimated to $2.29{\times}10^{-3}$.

해체 콘크리트 폐기물로부터 방사성핵종 분리 (Separation of Radionuclide from Dismantled Concrete Waste)

  • 원자력시설의 콘크리트 폐기물은 서로 다른 메카니즘에 의해 다양한 핵종에 의해 방사화 되거나 오염된다. 우라늄 변환시설 및 연구로 해체 시 발생된 오염된 콘크리트의 부피감용을 위해 가열 분쇄 실험에 의해 자갈, 모래, 페이스트의 골재의 크기에 따른 핵종의 분배특성에 대해 고찰하였다. 실험결과 대부분의 방사성 핵종은 골재로부터 제거되어 페이스트에 존재하였으며 특히, 가열 온도는 방사성 핵종을 오염된 콘크리트 폐기물로부터 분리하는데 중요한 변수로 확인되었다. 즉, 콘크리트 표면에 오염된 물질은 밀도가 높은 자갈, 모래보다는 다공성 물질의 페이스트에 농축되었다. 방사화 콘크리트에서는 80%, 우라늄 변환시설의 콘크리트 폐기물에서는 약 75% 정도의 부피감용을 얻었다.

충주산(忠州産) 저품위(低品位) 철광석(鐵鑛石)의 품위향상(品位向上)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (A study on the Upgrade of Iron Ore Waste Discarded around Choong-ju Iron District)

  • Iron ore waste discarded around Choong-ju iron district, Choongchong-Bukdo is as low as 25 per cent of iron, mainly consisting of hematite and magnetite. In this mineral dressing test procedure 93 per cent of magnetite was separated and concentrated into the magnetite concentrate as high as 62 per cent. The remaining sample, mostly, hematite averages about 19.8 per cent of iron which can be concentrated with very good results with the optimum flotation conditioning-pH 3.0 and 3 cc per litre of aero-promoter #845 (0.5% sol.) and 1.5cc per litre of hydro-fluoric acid (40% sol.) and four times of cleaning flotation. Hematite concentrate averages 64.2 per cent of iron. The overall iron concentrate averages 63 per cent of iron with recovery 86 per cent of iron contained.

  • The objective of this research paper is to discuss the waste coffee residue disposal and its environmental effects on the environment. As we know, coffee is one of the most demand and swallowed beverages in the world, which leads to large quantities of solid waste. Which can be toxic and a lot of environmental problems occur. In developing countries, there is a lack of proper coffee waste residue management. The coffee beans and residues contain several organic compounds. The wastewater from coffee industry emitted several pollutants (highly concentrated) and it contaminates the soil, ground waters, aquatic life, and also human health. Hence it is essential to treat the coffee waste residues. Mean while, oyster shell waste and its disposal also a big environmental challenge in the coastal regions of southeast Korea. In this paper, we focused the treatment of coffee waste residue with oyster shell waste powder. Primarily, oyster shells are calcinated at higher temperatures and investigated the calcined CaO powder as an anti microbic agent to the bacteria presented in coffee waste residues. We successfully applied calcium oxide from oyster shell waste, as an antimicrobic agent.

농촌쓰레기 관리실태와 해결 방안 연구 (A Study on the Rural Waste Problem and Resolution)

  • Waste policy instruments such as garbage bag-fee system and recycling policy initiated in 1995 have contributed to the reduction of solid waste generation. Rural areas now produce less amount of solid wastes in terms of per capital than urban areas and as compare to a decade ago. However, most policy efforts since the early 1990s related to waste issue have been concentrated in urban areas. Waste problems in rural areas are not the amount itself, but the specific characteristics which are unique in rural regions. Large portion of solid wastes and farming wastes are being illegally treated and/or burned out. Surveys show that the main reasons for the illegal treatment of rural wastes are th lack of systematic policy tools targeting on them, insufficient financial capacity and man power of local governments, rural people's cognition problem about wastes, among others. This study reviews current features of the treatment of rural solid wastes and provides policy suggestions for the resolution of the problem.
