A Study on the Achievement Goals of Computer Programming for Elementary students (초등학생들을 위한 컴퓨터 프로그래밍의 성취 기준에 관한 연구)

  • Information and knowledge society in the 21st century creativeness education is very important. The core of creativity education is software education that is to make something based on the creative thinking. Each country has already emphasizes software education. And Software education for elementary school students reflect the curriculum. Software education can be divided into four areas which are information, problem solving, algorithms, and programming. In this study, I propose criteria for the achievement of a computer program for elementary school students. The proposed criteria of programming education are fulfilled in other subjects curriculum of korea and other national software curriculum. This study is analyzed by the validity of the Delphi analysis of primary school teachers. The result of this study is that elementary school students when teaching computer programming that is very reasonable results.

Creative 3D game programming learning using Kodu visual programming language for elementary school students (Kodu 비주얼 프로그래밍 언어를 사용한 초등학생의 창의적 3D 게임프로그래밍 학습)

  • Kodu made by MS is a new 3D visual programming language made specifically for creating games. This language is based on creativity, problem-solving methods, and storytelling. So, it is very suitable for game programming education for kids. In this paper, we designed learning method to develop games based on elementary school students' creative thinking. The instruction was given to 27 6-grade elementary school students in 30 hours. And we applied the learning method in class. Also, we analyzed the changes in the learners' creative thinking and the learning effects of game programming.

  • Scratch programming comes into the spotlight as Education Programming Language. Especially, it is made better use at educational class by accessibility and visuality in elementary school. But most of latest research is just focus on effective for programming education and prove effectiveness once more. In this study, possibility about curriculum using Scratch programming and specific applicable methods were suggested. This research suggested that how to study with scratch programming through lesson "Make a pattern" in 5th grade Math curriculum at elementary school. And there was reflected that we can verify programming procedure visually and improve creativity.

  • This study is for developing a programming education course to improve pre-service teachers' pedagogical content knowledge(PCK) of programming education. A 40-hour training course was designed with App Inventor, a block-based mobile programming environment, and with problem-based learning method and project-based learning method. After the curriculum was adopted to 12 undergraduate students, the effect of education was tested with a programming PCK questionnaire. As a result, after a 20-hour problem-based learning class, overall score and teaching method score were enhanced significantly. After another 20-hour project-based learning class, content knowledge, teaching method, and curriculum score were improved.

  • As growing more and more interested in programming education, we need to concerned how to teach programming in school. We are presented the STEAM program based on scratch programming as a way of programming education for elementary students. We were developed STEAM program that do digital storytelling using scratch about selected science topic in order to raise interests about science and educate programming. In order to verify the effectiveness of the educational program, we analyzed the results of pre- and post-test about GALT, TTCT of experimental group and comparison group is comprised of 6th grade elementary students. In the analysis results, the education program we developed affected positive impacts on creativity, logical thinking of elementary school students.

  • Digital technology brought about many changes which has changed the life of modern people. Adolescents need programming learning to increase a competitiveness what will lead the future. Recently though an interest about programming learning has raised, there are many trouble to take programming learning. In this paper, we planed and implemented a program that elementary students can learn programming using Kodu easily and excitingly. According to comparison of pre-to-post tests about logical thinking using GALT, correlational reasoning and total of experimental group were growing significantly. Also, elementary students had positive cognition in learning interest about programming.

  • To help programming learning, we have designed a robot programming course that improves complex cognitive abilities. The developed course was implemented in college programming classes and educational effects were analysed. While students are learning through LEGO Mindstorms NXT and NXT-G software, the students' problem solving abilities have been enhanced. The developed robot programming course gives positive effects on learners' problem solving abilities. It means that the developed course helps a learner in a cognitive domain.

A Task Centered Scratch Programming Learning Program for Enhancing Learners' Problem Solving Abilities (문제해결력 향상을 위한 과제 중심 스크래치 프로그래밍 학습 프로그램)

  • Programming learning may help to enhance learners' complex problem solving abilities. However, it may cause excessive cognitive loads for learners. Therefore, selection of programming tools and design of teaching and learning strategies to minimize the learners' cognitive loads and to maximize the learning effects. A task centered Scratch programming learning program was developed to enhance problem solving abilities of middle school students. And then, we implemented the developed program in middle school programming classes and analysed the educational effects of the developed program. We found that the developed program was helpful in enhancing learners' problem solving abilities, especially in the element of 'troubleshooting', which explains ability of error detecting and correcting.

  • As the connection between objects and computers becomes easier, learning using physical computing is presented as a good alternative to solve the problems raised in programming education for beginners. In this paper, we propose a training method that can be applied to basic programming courses for beginners. To do this, we will proceed with a basic programming lecture based on the physical computing method. Currently, physical computing courses focus on various input sensor connection methods and output device control. However, the content of programming education using physical computing materials is lacking. In this paper, we proposed and tested a teaching method that is used in programming education by using low cost materials used in physical computing.

  • This study suggested an educational curriculum(12 class periods) in order for higher level elementary school students to learn programming in discretionary activity hours using a line tracer and evaluated achievement level based on the outcome of learning by class period to assess the possibility of success. As a result, it could confirm that the programming learning using the line tracer was more excellent in creativity than the computer programming learning. In addition, it has been found that the programming learning method using the line tracer had a potential to be successful as a new creative tool that could replace the computer.
