A Study on Programming Ability Assessment Tool Development for the No-Programming Experienced

  • Programming is very important subject in computer science and similar computer-related areas such as electronics engineering, etc. Programming is also important for information education for elementary, middle, and high school students since programming is one of the most basic subjects in computer science courses and other similar areas. In current information and knowledge society, raising programming ability is a key factor for everyone's competitiveness. With highly-competitive programming ability, one can enjoy his or her daily life abundantly. He or she also can get a highly-paid job, and make money using his or her programming ability. In this paper, a programming ability assessment tool is developed and introduced for the no-programming experienced. It is very difficult to test programming ability for the no-programming experienced with non-programming tools or activities. In this paper, a programming ability assessment tool is developed based on logical thinking ability. Especially the proposed tool consists of 15 questions for test one's logical thinking ability. The tool does not require any computer science or programming background. The proposed tool will be helpful as criteria for entrance examination or job screening examination for programming-related areas or subjects.

A Study on Correlation Analysis between Emotional Intelligence and Programming Ability

  • Programming ability becomes an essential ability for elementary and secondary school students as well as computer science major students in modern information society. Thus, improving programming ability has long been a research project for computer scientists and teachers in IT areas. There have been many research works for improving programming ability in various ways. At first glance, emotional intelligence is generally known as humanistic intelligence, and nothing to do with computer areas. In the recent works, emotional intelligence has a correlation with various subjects. The purpose of this paper is to analyze correlation between emotional intelligence and programing ability. For this purpose, extensive survey works are carried out and statistical results are analyzed. Based on statistical analysis, it is concluded that there is a correlation between emotional intelligence and programming ability.

Utilization of Computer Pointing Game for Improving Visual Perception Ability of Children with Severe Intellectual Disability

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of computer pointing game on the visual perception ability of children with severe intellectual disability. Based on a literature review, we developed a computer pointing game to improve visual perception ability, which consisted of three stages; catching a hamburger, catching a hamburger and a soda, and catching various foods. At each stage, different instructional models were applied by difficulty level of the contents. Experiments were performed among four children with severe intellectual disabilities for three weeks. They belonged to H public school in Kyeonggi, Korea. Their visual perceptions were quantitatively measured four times by utilizing the Korean Developmental Test of Visual Perception tool (K-DTVP-2). For qualitative evaluation, an observation assessment diary was written and analyzed. All four children at the fourth test showed better visual perception ability, compared with the ability at the first test. As a result of the analysis of the observation assessment, they were considered successful in their learning and ordinary life related to visual perception. It can be concluded that the computer pointing game may play a role in helping children with severe intellectual disabilities improve their visual perception ability.

학습자의 정보 활용 능력이 인지적 측면의 학습역량에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Computer Literacy on Learner's Cognitive Aspects Learning Ability)

  • 최근 3년간의 디지털교과서 효과성 분석 연구에 따르면 디지털교과서 연구학교에서 학습자의 정보 활용 능력은 디지털교과서 활용이 가장 큰 효과 요인으로 나타나고 있으며, 디지털교과서 활용을 위해서는 기본적으로 정보 활용 능력이 필요한 것으로 나타나고 있다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 디지털교과서 활용에 있어 정보 활용 능력이 실제적으로 어떤 효과를 나타내는지 알아보기 위하여 다양한 효인 요인들에게 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 학습자의 정보 활용 능력 수준을 상, 중, 하로 구분하고 각 수준별로 문제해결력, 자기주도학습력, 비판적 사고력 등 인지적 측면 역량에 미치는 영향을 각각 분석하였다. 그 결과, 학습자의 정보 활용 능력은 문제해결력, 자기주도학습력, 비판적 사고력 등의 인지적 측면 역량과 밀접한 상관관계를 가지고 있으며, 인지적 측면 역량에 많은 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 정보 활용 능력 수준이 '하'인 그룹에서 인지적 측면 역량에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고 '상'의 그룹에서는 향상도에서 인지적 측면 역량에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 효과적인 디지털교과서 활용을 위해서는 다양한 방식의 정보 활용 교육이 필요함을 제시하였다.

Influence of Computer Attitude on Critical Thinking Disposition

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of computer attitudes such as anxiety, confidence, preference, usefulness, and computer literacy on their critical thinking ability, targeting college students at unspecified university universities. The period of data collection was from January 10, 2020 to January 17, 2020. A total of 213 people participated in the study. For data analysis, SPSS 18.0 was used for frequency analysis, Pearson correlation, x2 square, and simple regression analysis. As a result of the analysis, the difference of interests under the statistical significance level among general characteristics was Gender (x2=55.7***, p<0.001), Age (x2=407.5***, p<0.001), Resident (x2=127.5***, p<0.001) Family (x2=289.4***, p<0.001). In the simple regression analysis, computer liking (t=2.102, p<0.05) and computer use ability affected Truth seeking (t=-6.319, p<0.01), computer use ability was affecting analyticity (t=-5.630, p<0.01), computer use ability was affecting systematicity (t=-2.545, p<0.05), computer use ability was affecting maturity under statistical significance (t=-2.583, p<0.05). In conclusion, this study suggests that computer liking and computer use ability affect the sub-factor components of critical thinking disposition, truth seeking, analyticity, systematicity, and maturity, therefore the emphasis of this study is to emphasize that it is desirable to use the computer as a medium of learning based on computer literacy rather than worrying about excessive computer use.

Association between the Using Goals of Computer and Self-regulated Learning Ability in Primary School Student Focusing on Gender Differences

  • The purpose of the present research was to examine the relationship between the using goals of computer and self-regulated learning ability on the gender difference. To accomplish this goal, we have analyzed the data of Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey III which is nationally collected from primary school students, currently on the 6th grade in South Korea. 2,219 samples were used in the study excluding missing samples. The participants were 1167 males (49.5%) and 1052 females (50.5%). The mean age was 13.94 years (SD=.25). As results, female students spent more time on using computer than male students did: (1) the male students' time spent on Playing game was significantly larger than that of female students, but (2) on the rest seven using goals of computer including e-Learning/Information retrieval for learning, the female students spent significantly more time than the male students did. Also, in terms of the self-regulated learning ability, using computer for e-Learning/Information retrieval for learning itself gave significantly positive effects on both male and female students' self-regulated learning ability. On the other hand, Playing game gave significantly negative effects on both. Based on the results, some strategies were suggested on the proper use of computer for learning.

Development of Science Subject Program based on Programming Learning to Improve Computational Thinking Ability in middle school

  • In this paper, we propose a Science subject program based on programming learning to improve computational thinking ability in middle school. As the necessity of software education rises recently, the subject of information was designated as the mandatory subject in elementary, middle and high schools. In order to cultivate the ability that enables the leaners to search the knowledge in need by themselves and raise troubleshooting method, not the existing indoctrination, his thesis was willing to improve Computational Thinking ability and improve the ability of considering and thinking the matters by using scratch language. For that, this thesis developed and suggested science subject program that utilizes the programming learning.

K 대학 신입생의 수학학습 실태와 기본 수리 능력과의 관계: 간호·치과보건계열과 컴퓨터·공학계열을 대상으로 (A study on the relationship between the mathematical learning status and basic mathematical ability of K university freshmen: for nursing, dental health, computer, and engineering departments)

  • Purpose: This study attempted to collect basic data to improve the basic repair ability of university freshmen in a world where the usage of advanced medical devices related to computer programs is now common. Methods: The collected data from 280 university freshmen enrolled in nursing, dental, and health degrees or computer and engineering degrees at K university of Gangwon-do were analyzed using the t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis using the IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 21.0 (IBM). Results: The mathematical learning status and the detailed factors of basic mathematical ability had a positive (+) correlation. The factors of basic mathematical ability, psychology of learning (p<0.001), method of learning (p<0.001), and propensity to learn (p<0.05) were found to be statistically significant, and the model's explanatory power was 40.0%. Conclusion: As a result of this study and considering that advanced medical devices such as computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing and three-dimensional printers are becoming more common and up-to-date in clinical settings, it is determined that nursing and dental health students require education to improve their repair skills.

컴퓨터를 활용한 그림 동화 만들기 활동이 유아의 이야기 꾸미기 능력과 창의성에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Picture Storybook Making Activities by Computer on Children's Storytelling Ability and Creativity)

  • This study examined the effects of picture storybook making activities with computer plays on children's storytelling ability and creativity. Seventy 5-year-old children from two day-care classes participated in this eight-week program. The experimental class used the computer software of 'Stanley's Sticker Stories.' The comparison class used paper and pencil. Data analysis was implemented by ANCOVA and t-test. Significant differences were found between the experimental and comparison groups in story telling ability by story structure, imagination, vocabulary, sentence structure, and creativity showing that picture storybook making activities with the computer was more effective than traditional picture storybook making activities.

유아의 정보능력에 영향을 미치는 요인탐색 (An Analysis on the Factors of Information Literacy Ability for Young Children)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 컴퓨터 활용을 통한 유아의 정보능력에 있어 가정에서의 컴퓨터 사용유무, 유치원에서의 컴퓨터 교육 경험 및 교육의 형태, 부모의 컴퓨터 활용교육에 대한 찬부(贊否)가 유아의 정보능력에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 알아보기 위해 전주시에 소재한 5개 유치원에 재원중인 4세 유아 118명을 대상으로 하였다. 교사 평정에 의한 유아 정보능력 측정 도구를 사용하여 유아의 정보능력에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 파악하였다. 자료 분석의 결과, 가정에서의 사용유무의 차이는 유아의 정보능력에 커다란 영향을 미치지는 못하였으나, 유치원에서의 컴퓨터 교육 경험 및 교육의 형태, 부모의 컴퓨터 활용교육 찬부(贊否)에 따라 유아의 정보능력에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 연구에서 얻어진 결과를 토대로 시사점과 제안점이 논의되었다.
