We studied the characteristics of the compound electrode and found that the compound electrode provides the four-electrode method in a compact form. We developed a new method of measuring the skin impedance using simple electrodes at low frequencies. At high frequencies where the effect of internal tissue impedance is not negligible, we used the compensation method using compound electrodes since they measure the voltage right under the skin. At 50 kHz, we measured the real part of the skin impedance of less than $80\;{\Omega}$ on the thorax.

In order to synthesize conformationally rigid etorphine analogues having potentially interesting pharmacological activities, synthesis of compound 3 by the reaction of compound 4 and compound 5 via intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction has been attempted. However, the reaction did not go well and the compound 3 would not be isolated. Therefore, intermolecular Diels-Alder reaction using dimethyl acetylene dicarboxylate was attempted. As shown in scheme 2, Diels-Alder adduct 9 was converted into the target molecule 14 containing the new [2.2.2] bicyclo octane ring in good yields.
This study was conducted in order to obtain basic information for the development of a special compound fertilizer of the trials for chestnut tree cultivation in 1979-1980. Results were as follows: 1. Differences in growth performence after application of single, compound and special compound fertilizer was not significant, but fertilized showed more vigorous growth compared to control plots (without fertilizer). 2. Appearance of Chestnut strobile-drops was observed at: 62.2 % in control plots, 37-50 % in each single and compound fertilizer plots and in those with the double amount of compound fertilizer, 0.7 % in special compound fertilizer plots, 6.2 % in those with double amount of special compound fertilizer. 3. Riped strobiles were collected: 249 in compound fertilizer plots, 625 in special compound fertilizer plots, 391 in double amount of compound fertilizer plots, 816 in double amount of special compound fertilizer plots. 4. The production of chestnuts was: 4,662g in single fertilizer plots, 4,678g in compound fertilizer plots, 28,880g special compound fertilizer plots, 11,736g double amount of compound fertilizer plots, 33,073g double amount of special compound fertilizer plots. There was on significant differences of chestnut production between single fertilizer plots and compound fertilizer plot, but the production in double amount of special compound fertilizer plots was three time higher than in double amount of compound fertilizer plots. 5. The amount of chestnut production in 1980 dcereased compared to 1979 in single and compound fertilize plots due to shortage of sun light and high precipitation in the vegetation period but increased two times more in 1980 compared to 1979 in double amount of compound fertilizer and double amount of specific compound fertilizer plots. 6. Observation of these fertilizer-trial-plots will be continued during the next years in order to obtain more specific datas.

Ginseng, whichhas long been used for its medicinal properties, has recently been investigated by scientific research to identify its components and evaluate its efficacy. Recently, two components of ginseng, Rg3 and compound K, have been attracting attention and various functional materials containing these materials have been developed and investigated. In this study, compound K wasproduced using yeast (Saccharomyces servazzii, GB-07) and To be used for industrialization. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of compound K (containing 20 g/g) ginseng fermented extract was investigated. In the fermented ginseng extract, the free radical DPPH was scavenged in a concentration-dependent manner and the production of ROS was inhibited in macrophages(RAW 264.7 cell). Moreover, the LPS-induced inflammatory cytokines $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ were suppressed. These results suggest the possibility of industrialization viathe development of products containing compound K through future process development and various efficacy tests.

Irradiation of phenolbetaine in a stream of nitrogen produced 8,14-cycioberbine[1]. Compound[1] was treated with 10% HCl solution to give the 8-hydroxycycloberbine[2] in 67.7% yield. Subsequently addition of ethylchloroformate to the compound[2] gave rise to the 8-hydroxy-7-ethylcarboxy-9, 10-dimethoxy-2, 3-methylenelioxy-13-oxo-norochotensane[3] in 78% yield. Treatment of the compound[3] with bis-(2-chloroethyl)amine then lead to the 7-bis(2-chloroethyl)carbamyl-norochoteneare[4]. On the other hand the compound[5], which is the 8-methoxynorochotensane, was derived when compound[1] was treated with methanol in a few drops of BF. Treatment of the compound[6], and the compound[7], 7-bis(2-chloroethyl)-carbanyl-8-methoxy-norocheyensane, was then synthesized by reaction of the compound[6] with bis(2-chloroethyl) amine. In the other synthetic pathway when compound[5] was treated with $POCl_3$ in dried benzene, 13-chloro-6-ene-norochetensane[8] with 42% yield was formed. Finally the 13-bis-(2-chloroethyl) amino-8-methoxy-norochotensane[9] was produced when we treated the compound[8] with bis-(2-chloroethyl) amine. In another pathway, reaction between phenolbetaine which is the precursor of the compound[1] and benzoylchloride in dried chloroform gave us the 5,6,7 trihydro-2, 3-methylene-dioxy-9-chloromethyl-10, 11-dimethoxyphenylisoquinoline-8-benzoate[10] in 73% yield. The results of biological activities for these compounds are also presented in Table I and II.

This study has been carried out to investigate the effects of the Phenolic compound on the hyperglycemic mice induced with strentozotocin (STZ). The effects of the phenolic compound were assayed by the changes of the blood glucose creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN ) levels, and insulin-immunohistochemical staining and electron microscopical observation for $\beta$ -cells of the Langerhan's islet, under the same experimental conditions. For this purpose male mice were fed with phenolic compound (PA group, IS mg/kg/day; PB group, 90 mg/kg/day)in their diet while the control group received the same commercial diet, for 6 weeks. The blood glucose contents was examined by tail vein blood once a week for 6 weeks. Samples of the pancreas removed after that period were processed for the immunohistochemical identification of $\beta$ -cells as well as for measuring ultrastructural changes of $\beta$-cells. The levels of serum glucose were decreased significantly (p<0.05) on the PB group compared with the control and PA group. The blood BUN and creatinine levels are slightly decreased in the phenolic compound feeding groups compared with control group. The $\beta$-cells on Langerhnan's islet were destructed by administration of STZ, so that a few of insulin-positive cells were observed in the control group. A lot of insulin-positive cells were observed in the PB group compared with the control group. According to the electron microscopical observation $\beta$-cells are recovered from the damage in the PA group. The $\beta$-cell contained a lot of electron dense and pale granules compared with control group. These results suggest that administration of the pear phenolic compound to the mice helped recovery from the damage induced by STZ.
The article herein suggested a compound repository and a descriptive method to develop a compound knowledge process. A data target saved in a compound knowledge repository suggested in this article includes all compound knowledge meta data and digital resources, which can be divided into the three following factors according to the purpose: user roles, functional elements, and service ranges. The three factors are basic components to describe abstract models of repository. In this article, meta data of compound knowledge are defined by being classified into the two factors. A component stands for the property about a main agent, activity unit or resource that use and create knowledge, and a context presents the context in which knowledge object are included. An agent of the compound knowledge process performs classification, registration, and pattern information management of composite knowledge, and serves as data flow and processing between compound knowledge repository and user. The agent of the compound knowledge process consists of the following functions: warning to inform data search and extraction, data collection and output for data exchange in an distributed environment, storage and registration for data, request and transmission to call for physical material wanted after search of meta data. In this article, the construction of a compound knowledge repository for recommendation system to be developed can serve a role to enhance learning productivity through real-time visualization of timely knowledge by presenting well-put various contents to users in the field of industry to occur work and learning at the same time.
IIn vitro antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities of nargenicin and its derivatives were investigated. Nargenicin, an unusual macrolide antibiotic with potent anti-MRSA (methicilin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) activity, was purified from the culture broth of Nocardia sp. CS682. And variety of novel nargenicin derivatives was synthesized from nargenicin. Two compounds (4 and 5) exhibit a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activities against infectious bacteria. The antimicrobial activity of derivatives against fifteen organisms was assessed using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). The MIC values were in the ranges of $0.15{\sim}80{\mu}g/mL$ (w/v) for compound 1 and 2, $5{\sim}80{\mu}g/mL$ (w/v) for compound 3, $1.25{\sim}40{\mu}g/mL$ (w/v) for compound 4, and $1.25{\sim}80{\mu}g/mL$ (w/v) for compound 5, depending on the pathogens studied. In vitro, we investigated cytotoxicity and inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) production of synthesized compounds 1-5 in Raw 264.7 cells. LPS-induced nitric oxide releases were significantly blocked by compound 3, 4 and 5 in a dose-dependent manner. At high concentrations ($5{\mu}g/mL$) compound 5 inhibited the NO production by 95%. Compound 4 inhibited the release of NO in LPS-activated Raw 264.7 cells by 75% at the concentration of $10{\mu}g/mL$. Compound 3 inhibited the release of NO in LPS-activated Raw 264.7 cells by 65% at the concentration of $100{\mu}g/mL$. On the other hand, nargenicin, compound 1 and 2 did not inhibit NO production. These results demonstrated that compound 4 and 5 displayed antimicrobial activity and blocked LPS-induced pro-inflammatory mediators such as NO in macrophages, which might be responsible for its therapeutic application.
