This paper is concerned with the numerical calculation of mixed-mode stress intensity factors (SIFs) of 2-D isotropic functionally graded materials (FGMs) by the natural element method (more exactly, Petrov-Galerkin NEM). The spatial variation of elastic modulus in non-homogeneous FGMs is reflected into the modified interaction integral ${\tilde{M}}^{(1,2)}$. The local NEM grid near the crack tip is refined, and the directly approximated strain and stress fields by PG-NEM are enhanced and smoothened by the patch recovery technique. Two numerical examples with the exponentially varying elastic modulus are taken to illustrate the proposed method. The mixed-mode SIFs are parametrically computed with respect to the exponent index in the elastic modulus and external loading and the crack angle and compared with the other reported results. It has been justified from the numerical results that the present method successfully and accurately calculates the mixed-mode stress intensity factors of 2-D non-homogeneous functionally graded materials.

In this paper, an equally spaced $3{\times}2$ microstrip patch array antenna based on the fundamental infinite wavelength supported by the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission line (TL) is proposed. The proposed CRLH TL unit cell consists of an inter-digit capacitor to realize left-handed (LH) series capacitance and non-symmetric shunt meander line with a shorted via to realize LH shunt inductance. At the infinite wavelength frequency of 2.09 GHz a 6-port series power divider consisting of a 19 unit cells shows a maximum magnitude difference of 0.73 dB and a $0.52^{\circ}$ maximum phase difference between output ports. The measured resonant frequency and maximum gain of the fabricated array antenna is 2.09 GHz and 10.98 dBi, respectively.
Generally, the girder spacing of the two-girder composite bridge is from 5m up to 15m. To ensure the structural safety according to Korean Bridge Design Specification, the deck depth should be from 33 cm upto 73 cm. Using the transversal prestressing strands in concrete deck, we can reduce its depth about 10%. However, there is little experience on the design and construction of prestressed concrete(PSC) decks in Korea. This paper focuses on the behaviors of PSC deck. A literature survey is performed widely. Considering the characteristics of the two-girder bridge and the construction conditions in Korea, a cast-in-place PSC deck is recommended for the two-girder bridge with 6m girder spacing. To examine its structural behaviors and safety, three partial model deck specimens(3 m$\times$5 m) with real scale are fabricated md tested. One(PS34-RS) is 34cm depth with the stiffness restraint in longitudinal edges for simulating the real bridge deck. Another(PS34-NS) is same depth without the stiffness restraint, and the other(PS28-NS) is 28cm depth with the stiffness restraint. Under the static patch loading, each specimen had a larger ultimate flexural strength than the design value. Specimens with the stiffness restraint (PS34-RS and PS28-RS) showed the punching shear failure mode and specimen without that(PS34-NS) showed the flexural failure mode.
In the case of a conventional composite patch repair using a heat blanket, the adhesive is pressurized using only a vacuum bag. In this study, however, a pressurization system has been developed to apply additional air pressure on the vacuum bag. In order to verify the performance of the developed system, the composite laminates were repaired with scarf patches and then tested under tensile load to be compared with the strength of the defect-free laminate. Tensile tests were also conducted on specimens with the same configuration but bonded in an autoclave. As a result of the test, the tensile strengths of the specimens repaired using the heat blanket with vacuum only without external pressure, the specimens repaired with additional pressure by the developed system, and the specimens repaired with the same external pressure in an autoclave, showed the strength recovery ratios of 74.9, 81.0, and 78.2%, respectively. The results of the tensile test after moisture saturation and the dried fatigue test also showed that the strength recovery ratios of the specimens repaired under the external pressure of 1 atm using the developed system are slightly higher than that of specimens bonded in autoclave.

In this paper, a frequency tunable zeroth-order resonant(ZOR) antenna has been implemented. The ZOR characteristics of the proposed antenna is realized by using a composite right-and left-handed(CRLH) transmission line which consists of a rectangular slot on the ground plane of a mushroom structured antenna in order to minimize the antenna size. In addition, the tunable devices are introduced on the slotted ground plane for frequency tuning capability. Depending on the on and off states of the tunable device on the slotted ground plane, a shunt inductance value of the CRLH transmission line is changed and its resonant frequency becomes tunable. From the experimental results, the resonant frequency of the proposed antenna is changed from 4.92 GHz to 2.96 GHz. Additionally, the proposed antenna's size is reduced by 94.24 % compared with the half-wavelength patch antenna.
ZOR(zeroth order resonance) antenna for 2.45GHz WLAN(wireless local area network) is designed by use of CRLH-TL(composite right left handed transmission line) meta-material. The electrical length of conventional antennas is determined generally according to the resonant frequency, whereas that of ZOR antenna can be determined without reference to the resonant frequency. Therefore ZOR antenna has advantage in miniaturization of antenna in comparison with conventional antennas. In order to design such ZOR antenna, first unit cell with electrical length shorter than a quarter wavelength at 2.45GHz is designed to the some characteristics of homogeneous medium. In order to decrease resonant frequency and enhance frequency bandwidth, the proposed antenna is fed by CPW(co-planar waveguide) and short stub between radiation patch and ground plane is used for obtaining both higher inductance and smaller capacitance than previous mush-room type of CRLH-TL.
A 31 year-old male patient underwent surgical treatment of the pseudoaneurysm of the ascending aorta complicating after the Bentall operation, He had undergone the replacement of the ascending aorta using the composite valved graft with direct coronary reimplantation under the diagnosis of the annuloaortic ectasia of ascending aorta associated with Marfan syndrome. Eleven months after the operation, he started to feel dyspnea and anterior chest pain, and was diagnosed as pseudoaneurysm around the ascending aortic graft. The second operation consisted of the dacron patch closure of the defect of the aortic graft which was the hole for previous coronary reimplantation, and the anastomosis between the coronary orifice and the aortic graft with the intermediate graft of a 10mm woven dacron tube, and suture closure of the fistula opening from the aneurysm. His postoperative course was uneventful and discharged without complication. He is doing well 10 months postoperatively.

This paper documents the effect of surface treatment of aluminum on the bonding strength of aluminum/CFRP composites. The surface of aluminum panel was treated by DC plasma. The optimal treatment condition of the aluminum was determined by measuring the contact angle and T-peel strength as functions of mixture ratio of acetylene gas to nitrogen gas. The mixture ratios used were 1:9, 3:7, 5:5, 7:3, and 9:1 Lap shear tests and T-peel tests were performed using surface-treated alumiunm/CFRP composites and regular alumiunm/CFRP composites. The results showed that the contact angle was minimized and the T-peel strength was maximized iota the mixture ratio of 5:5. The results also showed that the shear strength of surface-treated alumiunm/CFRP composites was 34% greater than that of regular alumiunm/CFRP composites. The T-peel strength of surface-treated alumiunm/CFRP composites was also 5 times greater than that of regular alumiunm/CFRP composites.
The magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) material under thermal environment exhibits pyroelectric and pyromagnetic coefficients resulting in pyroelectric and pyromagnetic effects. The pyroelectric and pyromagnetic effects on the behavior of multiphase MEE sensors bonded on top surface of a mild steel beam under thermal environment is presented in this paper. The aim of the study is to find out how samples having different volume fractions of the multiphase MEE composite behave in sensor applications. This is studied at optimal location on the beam, where the maximum electric and magnetic potentials are induced due to pyroelectric and pyromagnetic effects under clamped-free and clamped-clamped boundary conditions. The sensor which is bonded on the top surface of the beam is modeled using 8-node brick element. The MEE sensor bonded on mild steel beam is subjected to uniform temperature rise of 50K. It is assumed that beam and sensor is perfectly bonded to each other. The maximum pyroelectric and pyromagnetic effects on electric and magnetic potentials are observed when volume fraction is ${\nu}_f=0.2$. The boundary conditions significantly influence the pyroelectric and pyromagnetic effects on electric and magnetic potentials.
Theoretical and experimental study is conducted on the contact pressure distribution of a radial tire in motion under various camber angles. Tire construction is modelled by a spring bedded elastic ring, consisted of sidewall springs and a composite belt ring. The contact area is assumed to be a trapezoidal shape varying with camber angles and weighted load. The basic equation in a quasi-static form is derived for the deformation of a running belt with a constant velocity by the aid of Lagrange-Euler transformation. Galerkin's method and stepwise calculation are applied for solving the basic equation and the mechanical boundary condition along both sides of the contact belt part subjected to shearing forces transmitted from the sidewall spring. Experimental results on the contact pressure, measured by pressure sensors embedded in the surface of the drum tester, correspond well with the calculated ones for the test tire under various camber angles, running velocities and weighted loads. These results indicate that a buckling phenomenon of the contact belt in the widthwise direction occurs due to the effect of camber angle.
