  • This research was carried with emphasis on the technical contents of lighting design which had various knowledge system in the educational viewpoint. First of all, phisiolosical and physical factors were considered with the process of vision between human and light. Next, components of attributes in the lighting fixture were prescribed to analyze concept of the fixture. Finally, I proposed educational program in the instruction to meet the purpose of this research. As a result, in overall research concerning the basic direction and structure, instruction should have balance to reconcile theory and practice about lighting. Second, in terms of expansion of cognition about lighting, experimental education that is considered with interface is needed to make practical verification through relationship with man-made environment and scientific data.

  • The study of superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is continuously being studied as a countermeasure for reducing fault-current in the power system. When the fault occurred in the power system, the fault-current was limited by the generated impedance of SFCLs. The operational characteristics of the flux-offset type SFCL according to turn ratios between the primary and the secondary winding of a reactor were compared in this study. We connected the secondary core to a superconductor and a SCR switch in series in the suggested structure. The fault current in the primary and the secondary winding of the reactor and the voltage of the superconductor on the secondary were measured and compared. The results showed that the fault current in the load line was the lowest and the voltage applied at both ends of the superconductor was also low when the secondary winding of the reactor had lower turn ratio than the primary. It was confirmed based on these results that the turn ratio of the secondary winding of the reactor must be designed to be lower than that of the primary winding to reduce the burden of the superconductor and to lower the fault current. Also, the suggested structure could increase the duration of the limited current by limiting the continuous current after the first half cycle from the fault with the fault current limiter.

  • This paper dealt with the fabrication of a partial discharge (PD) analyzer for insulation diagnosis of power facilities like transformers, cables and gas-insulated switchgears. An analytic algorithm for the phase (${\phi}$), the magnitude (q), and the pulse count (n) of PD pulse was designed and a time-frequency (TF) map algorithm was applied in the system to eliminate noises by analyzing the time and the frequency component of signals. All the algorithms were operated by a LabView graphical program. The detection circuit consists of a coupling capacitor, a detection impedance, and a low noise amplifier. A plane-plane and a point-plane electrode system were fabricated to simulate different types of insulation defects. In the experiment, we could easily understand the characteristics of PD pulses using the prototype PD analyzer.

  • The demands for the development of large scale software systems are being increased. Various software development methods have been introduced to meet these demands. The unit size of the codes that are reused is increasing in the development methods. These units reflect the concept of software reusability and can be identified as the object, component, and module. Recent trend in the development or a large scale software systems treats a commercial program as a unit to be reused. This approach lies along the same line as the identification of above three types of units. This paper shows how the above four types of units for enhancing the software reusability can be applied to the development of automatic graphic drawing System for a metal production.

  • A recent theoretical approach based on the coupling of both the Flory-Huggins (FH) and the Association Equilibria thermodynamic (AET) theories was modified and adapted to study the miscibility properties of a multi-component system formed by two polymers (a proton-donor and a proton-acceptor) and a proton-acceptor solvent, named copolymer(A)/solvent(B)/polymer(C). Compatibility between polymers was mainly attained by hydrogen-bonding between the hydroxyl group on the phenol unit of the poly(styrene-co-vinyl phenol) (PSVPh) and the carbonyl group of the biodegradable and environmentally friendly poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB). However, the self-association of PSVPh and specific interactions between the PSVPh and the H-acceptor group (an ether oxygen atom) of the epichlorohydrin (ECH) solvent were also established in a lower extension, which competed with the polymer-polymer association. All the binary specific interactions and their dependence with the system composition as well as with the copolymer content were evaluated and quantified by means of two excess functions of the Gibbs tree energy, ${\Delta}g_{AB}$ and ${\Delta}g_{AC}$. Experimental results from fluorescence spectroscopy were consistent with the theoretical simulations derived with the model, which could also be applied and extended to predict the miscibility in solution of any polymer blend with specific interactions.

Abstract This paper presents an endomorphic modeling methodology for designing intelligent systems that can determine by itself using its knowledge of the world and adapt itself to continuously changing circumstances. We have developed such an intelligent endomorphic system by integrating the decision making component and knowledge based internal model with internal model construction model. Learning capabilities are established using the modified inductive reasoning and adaptive expert system techniques we developed. Proposed methodology has been successfully applied to a design of intelligent card game players capable of supporting the intelligent learning and decision making.

  • In speech recognition under a noisy environment, it is necessary to construct a system which reduces the noise and enhances the speech. Then it is effective to imitate the human auditory system which has an excellent analytical spectrum mechanism for speech enhancement. Accordingly, this paper proposes an adaptive method using the auditory mechanism which is called lateral inhibition. This method first estimates the noise intensity by neural network, then adaptively adjusts both the coefficients of the lateral inhibition and the adjusting coefficient of amplitude component according to the noise intensity for each input frame. It is confirmed that the proposed method is effective for speech degraded by white noise, colored noise, and road noise based on the spectral distortion measurement.

  • Real-Time object tracking has emerged as an important component in several application areas including machine vision. surveillance. Human-Computer Interaction. image-based control. and so on. And there has been developed various algorithms for a long time. But in many cases. they have showed limited results under uncontrolled situation such as illumination changes or cluttered background. In this paper. we present a novel. computationally efficient algorithm for tracking human face robustly under illumination changes and cluttered backgrounds. Previous algorithms usually defines color model as a 2D membership function in a color space without consideration for illumination changes. Our new algorithm developed here. however. constructs a 3D color model by analysing plenty of images acquired under various illumination conditions. The algorithm described is applied to a mobile head-eye robot and experimented under various uncontrolled environments. It can track an human face more than 100 frames per second excluding image acquisition time.

  • ASCE/SEI 41-13 provides modeling parameters and numerical acceptance criteria for various types of members that are useful for evaluating the seismic performance of reinforced concrete (RC) building structures. To accurately evaluate the global performance of a coupled wall system, it is crucial to first properly define the component behaviors (i.e., force-displacement relationships of shear walls and coupling beams). However, only a few studies have investigated on the modeling of RC coupling beams subjected to earthquake loading to date. The main objective of this study is to assess the reliability of ASCE 41-13 modeling parameters specified for RC coupling beams with various design details, based on a database compiling almost all coupling beam tests available worldwide. Several recently developed coupling beam models are also reviewed. Finally, a rational method is proposed for determining the chord yield rotation of RC coupling beams.

  • There have been various recent methods proposed in detecting driver drowsiness (DD) to avert fatal accidents. This work proposes a hardware/software (HW/SW) co-design approach in implementation of a DD detection system adapted from an AdaBoost-based object detection algorithm with Haar-like features [1] to monitor driver's eye closure rate. In this work, critical functions of the DD detection algorithm is accelerated through custom hardware components in order to speed up processing, while the software component implements the overall control and logical operations to achieve the complete functionality required of the DD detection algorithm. The HW/SW architecture was implemented on an Altera DE2 board with a video daughter board. Performance of the proposed implementation was evaluated and benchmarked against some recent works.
