  • Multifunctional structures with two kinds of materials have been intensively investigated in order to improve their electrical characteristic with two functions simultaneously. However, the research regarding of multifunctional ceramic sensor is still in a preliminary stage and how to integrate them with low-cost and high-yield mass production process remains a challenge issue. In this study, we fabricated the multifunctional ceramic sensor composed of temperature and gas sensors. Moreover, we investigated the CO sensing properties of three dimensional nanostuctured $Nb_2O_5$ thin film gas sensors fabricated with silica ($SiO_2$ nanosphere (${\O}$= 750 nm). Compared to plain films, the nanostructured films show enhanced gas sensing of greater sensitivity and a faster response. This result reveals that significantly increased sensitivity is an increase in the effective surface area for the adsorption of gas molecules.

  • Recently, wearable sensors have received considerable attention in a variety of research fields and industries as the importance of wearable healthcare systems, soft robotics and bio-integrated devices increased. However, expensive and complex processes are hindering the commercialization of wearable sensors. Nanoparticle presents some of solutions to these problems as its adjustable for processability and tunable properties. In this paper, the recent development of nanoparticle based pressure and strain sensors was reviewed, and a discussion on their strategies to overcome the conventional limitation and operating principles is presented.

  • This paper describes the factors which control the impedance-relative humidity characteristics of the TiO2-V2O5 humidity sensor. To obtain the quantitative relationships between impedance and many manufacturing parameters such as V2O5mol%, the sintering time and temperature, various sets of samples are preared and tested. With changing relative hymidity from 20% to 80%, it is measrued that the corresponding capacitance and impedance from the semicircles which complex impedance plots make. As a result we found that the impedance-relative humidity characteristics are mainly controlled by the doping amount of V2O5 total pore volume and bulk resistence of the elements. We can assume the equivalent circuits of each samples and finally control the sintering time to get a linear humidity impedance response curve which plays an important role in device making. 4mol% V2O5-TiO2 specimen sintered at 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 10min. show liear log(Z) vs. RH characteristics and 10mol% V2O5-TiO2 specimen sintered at the same temp. for 20min. show linear (Z) vs. RH.

  • To detect the impact location of a structure, the authors' group conducted a study on piezoelectric paint sensor. The piezoelectric paint sensors are used for impact detection due to their inherent characteristics: sensitivity to high-frequency signal and impact. Additionally, the paint sensor can be applied on curved and complex structures where ceramic sensor would not be applicable. Moreover it is a self-powered sensor therefore no need for an external power source. For impact localization, mosaic pattern electrodes were coated on the specimen and the impact signal obtained from any part of the electrode where the impact occurred. If we more precise impact localization is required, the electrodes should be divided into more parts and impact data acquisition conducted in all the points of the electrode. In this paper, we developed a light, cheap and simple multi-channel data acquisition system to aid in data gathering. In total four channels data acquisition have been tested using the ARM Cortex-M3.

  • Water quality is crucial for human health and the environment. Accurate measurement of the quantity of organic carbon in water is essential for water quality evaluation, identification of water pollution sources, and appropriate implementation of water treatment measures. Total organic carbon (TOC) analysis is an important tool for this purpose. Although other methods, such as chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) are also used to measure organic carbon in water, they have limitations that make TOC analysis a more favorable option in certain situations. For example, COD requires the use of toxic chemicals, and BOD is time-consuming and can produce inconsistent and unreliable results. In contrast, TOC analysis is rapid and reliable, providing accurate measurements of organic carbon content in water. However, common methods for TOC analysis can be complex and energy-intensive because of the use of high-temperature heaters for liquid-to-gas phase transitions and the use of acid, which present safety risks. This study focuses on a TOC analysis method using TiO2 photocatalysis, which has several advantages over conventional TOC analysis methods, including its low cost and easy maintenance. For TiO2, rutile and anatase powders are mixed with an inorganic binder and spray-coated onto a glass fiber substrate. The TiO2 powder and inorganic binder solutions are adjusted to optimize the photocatalytic reaction performance. The TiO2 photocatalysis method is a simple and low-power approach to TOC analysis, making it a promising alternative to commonly used TOC analysis methods. This study aims to contribute to the development of more efficient and cost-effective approaches for water quality analysis and management by exploring the effectiveness and reliability of the developed equipment.
