  • This paper investigates properties of integral operators in complex variable boundary integral equation in plane elasticity, which is derived from the Somigliana identity in the complex variable form. The generalized Sokhotski-Plemelj's formulae are used to obtain the BIE in complex variable. The properties of some integral operators in the interior problem are studied in detail. The Neumann and Dirichlet problems are analyzed. The prior condition for solution is studied. The solvability of the formulated problems is addressed. Similar analysis is carried out for the exterior problem. It is found that the properties of some integral operators in the exterior boundary value problem (BVP) are quite different from their counterparts in the interior BVP.

  • This paper addresses the free and transient responses of a SDOF linear complex stiffness system by making use of the Hilbert transform and the convolution integral. Because the second-order differential equation of motion having the complex stiffness give rise to the conjugate complex eigen values, its time-domain analysis using the standard time integration scheme suffers from the numerical instability and divergence. In order to overcome this problem, the transient response of the linear complex stiffness system is obtained by the convolution integral of a green function which corresponds to the unit-impulse free vibration response of the complex system. The damped free vibration of the complex system is theoretically derived by making use of the state-space formulation and the Hilbert transform. The convolution integral is implemented by piecewise-linearly interpolating the external force and by superimposing the transient responses of discretized piecewise impulse forces. The numerical experiments are carried out to verify the proposed time-domain analysis method, and the correlation between the real and imaginary parts in the free and transient responses is also investigated.

  • Uncertainty appears not only in real quantities but also in complex quantities. Complex uncertain process is essentially a sequence of complex uncertain variables indexed by time. In order to describe complex uncertain process, a formal definition of complex uncertain distribution is given in this paper, as well as the concepts of independence and variance. In addition, some properties of complex uncertain integral are presented.

  • The analytic solution of the stress field at creep crack in the presence of grain boundary caviation is to be obtained by solving the governing equation which was derived through the previous paper. The complex integral technique is used to slove the singular integral equation. under the help of the information about stress behaviors at the ends of integral region know by numerical solution. The resultant stress disstribution obtained shows the relaxed crack-tip singularity of $r^{1/2+\theta}$ due to the intervention of cavitation effect, otherwise, it should assumed to be $r^{1/2}$ singularity of linear elastic fracture mechanics with no cavitation.

  • This study derives the expressions of vector gravity and gravity gradient tensor due to an elliptical cylinder. The vector gravity for an arbitrary three-dimensional (3D) body is obtained by differentiating the gravitational potential, including the triple integral, according to the shape of the body in each axis direction. The vector gravity of the 3D body with axial symmetry is integrated along the axial direction and reduced to a double integral. The complex Green's theorem using complex conjugates subsequently converts the double integral into a one-dimensional (1D) closed-line integral. Finally, the vector gravity due to the elliptical cylinder is derived using 1D numerical integration by parameterizing a boundary of the elliptical cross-section as a closed line. Similarly, the gravity gradient tensor due to the elliptical cylinder is second-order differentiated from the gravitational potential, including the triple integral, and integrated along the vertical axis direction reducing it to a double integral. Consequently, all the components of the gravity gradient tensor due to an elliptical cylinder are derived using complex Green's theorem as used in the case of vector gravity.
