Results: The core competencies for 119 EMTs were derived from technical competency, information competency, communication competency, problem-solving competency, self-development competency and interpersonal competency. In addition, among the sub-factors of these competencies, 16 abilities (including leadership), ability to apply technical knowledge, technical comprehension, conflict management ability, ability to create documents, problem handling ability, ability to think, technical selection ability, and computer literacy were included in the priority category. Conclusion: This study derived and presented the core competencies for 119 EMTs to enable them to meet the modern day requirements of their roles, which may contribute to enhancing their professionalism.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among critical thinking disposition, problem solving ability, and triage competency in nurses working in Emergency Rooms (ERs). Methods: This cross-sectional study, conducted in August and September 2021, involved 118 ER nurses from three hospitals in the Gyeonggi-do metropolitan area. The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS for Windows version 25.0. Results: The mean score of triage competency among ER nurses was 87.63±15.65. In the regression model, age, ER experience, triage experience, critical thinking disposition, and problem solving ability predicted 52% of the triage competency. Both critical thinking disposition and problem-solving ability were noted to be significant (β=.32, p<.001; β=.36, p<.001, respectively). Conclusion: Critical thinking disposition and problem solving ability of ER nurses were identified as major factors in triage competency. To improve ER nurses' triage competency and enhance critical thinking disposition and problem solving ability, a systematic and ongoing program should be developed and implemented.

Purpose: This study was done to examine effects of task performance style, communication ability and their interaction on problem-solving ability and nursing competency of nursing students participating in a nursing management practicum. Methods: The study was a non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design. Participants were 56 fourth year nursing students (25 in the cooperative task group and 31 in the individual task group) and data were collected from March to September 2010. Additionally, two groups were classified based on communication ability of students and four groups were classified by their task performance style and communication ability. Problem-solving ability and nursing competency were measured pre- and post-test and compared between groups. Data were analyzed using SPSS Windows 17.0 program. Results: Neither problem-solving ability and nursing competency were statistically significantly different according to task performance style. Nursing competency was statistically significantly higher in the high communication group compared to the low communication group. Problem-solving ability was significantly different among the four groups classified by task performance style and communication ability. Conclusion: Nursing educators may need to improve students' communication ability to improve nursing competency and also assign different tasks based on communication ability of nursing students to improve problem-solving ability.
In this paper, the effect of daily creativity of engineering students on problem-solving ability is addressed through the dual mediating effect of teamwork competency and self-directed learning ability. To this end, a regression-based statistical mediation analysis has been performed on the dual mediation model in which daily creativity and problem solving ability were treated as independent and dependent variables respectively, and teamwork competence and self-directed learning ability were included as mediation variables. The analysis result confirmed that the daily creativity has direct effect on the problem-solving ability, as well as indirect effects through teamwork competence and self-directed learning ability. In particular, the serial mediating effect of teamwork competency and self-directed learning ability was also confirmed to be statistically significant in the relationship between daily creativity and problem-solving ability. This verifies that problem-solving ability can be improved not only directly by improving daily creativity but also indirectly by improving teamwork competence and self-directed learning ability. In addition, teamwork competency showed greater indirect effect on problem-solving ability than self-directed learning ability, so increasing teamwork competency has a more significant effect on improving problem-solving ability than increasing self-directed learning ability. Therefore, in order to develop better problem-solving ability, it is necessary to identify and improve the learners' teamwork competency first and to strive to create an environment where learners can solve problems based on mutual trust with their teammates.
This study was done to develop and validate a path model for the causal relationship of nursing information literacy competency and problem solving, self-direct learning, and clinical performance ability of nursing students. Subject were 208 nursing students in the fourth grade of nursing school. Data were collected from June 4 to June 18, 2018. The nursing information literacy competency of nursing students showed direct effects on problem solving ability (${\gamma}=.70$, p<.001) and direct effects on self-directed learning ability (${\gamma}=.53$, p<.001). Nursing information literacy competency showed direct (${\gamma}=.31$, p<.001) and indirect effects (${\gamma}=.31$, p=.007) on clinical performance ability. These variables explained for 46.2% of clinical performance ability. Therefore, it is recommended to develop an education program that can enhance the nursing information literacy competency for improving the problem solving, self-directed learning, and clinical performance ability of nursing students.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to identify the factors influencing the nursing students' Clinical Competency. Methods: A sample of convenience was 185 nursing students, and a questionnaire was used to measure their self-leadership, critical thinking disposition, self-directed learning ability, problem solving ability and clinical competency. Results: A significant positive correlation was found among clinical competency, self-leadership, critical thinking disposition, self-directed learning ability and problem solving ability. Grade of which the participant was in, interpersonal relationship, critical thinking disposition, problem solving ability, and self-directed learning ability were significant predictive variables of which accounted for 53% of the variance in clinical competency. Conclusions: The results from this study can be used to develop the programs for improving clinical competency.
This study aimed to measure consumer information competency, which indicates consumers' general ability to search and utilize information. The model of this study was constructed in order to identify how consumer information competency influences the efficiency and the effectiveness of external information search. The model was verified with related prior knowledge as a moderator variable in order to understand holistic consumer information search activity. The result of the study is as follows. First, the concept of consumer information competency was constructed with four sub-abilities: define, search, extract, and synthesis & use. The ability of define was the highest, as opposed to the ability of extract, which was the lowest. Second, consumer information competency was lower for women as well as for low family income. The sub-abilities of search and synthesis & use were lower for aging consumers. Third, consumer information competency has positive effects on information search efficiency and effectiveness. Moreover, the efficiency influences the effectiveness positively. Fourth, prior knowledge moderates the effect of consumer information competency to the efficiency. Only for consumers with high knowledge the efficiency has the effect of mediating between consumer information competency and the effectiveness.
