EQUALITY IN DEGREES OF COMPACTNESS: SCHAUDER'S THEOREM AND s-NUMBERS

  • We investigate an extension of Schauder's theorem by studying the relationship between various s-numbers of an operator T and its adjoint T*. We have three main results. First, we present a new proof that the approximation number of T and T* are equal for compact operators. Second, for non-compact, bounded linear operators from X to Y, we obtain a relationship between certain s-numbers of T and T* under natural conditions on X and Y . Lastly, for non-compact operators that are compact with respect to certain approximation schemes, we prove results for comparing the degree of compactness of T with that of its adjoint T*.

  • We estimate the essential norms of Volterra-type integral operators $V_g$ and $I_g$, and multiplication operators $M_g$ with holomorphic symbols g on a large class of generalized Fock spaces on the complex plane ${\mathbb{C}}$. The weights defining these spaces are radial and subjected to a mild smoothness conditions. In addition, we assume that the weights decay faster than the classical Gaussian weight. Our main result estimates the essential norms of $V_g$ in terms of an asymptotic upper bound of a quantity involving the inducing symbol g and the weight function, while the essential norms of $M_g$ and $I_g$ are shown to be comparable to their operator norms. As a means to prove our main results, we first characterized the compact composition operators acting on the spaces which is interest of its own.

  • Given operators X and Y acting on a separable complex Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, an interpolating operator is a bounded operator A such that AX=Y. In this article, we show the following: Let $Alg\mathcal{L}$ be a tridiagonal algebra on a separable complex Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ and let $X=(x_{ij})\;and\;Y=(y_{ij})$ be operators in $\mathcal{H}$. Then the following are equivalent: (1) There exists a normal operator $A=(a_{ij})\;in\;Alg\mathcal{L}$ such that AX=Y. (2) There is a bounded sequence $\{\alpha_n\}\;in\;\mathbb{C}$ such that $y_{ij}=\alpha_jx_{ij}\;for\;i,\;j\;{\in}\;\mathbb{N}$. φ-FRAMES AND φ-RIESZ BASES ON LOCALLY COMPACT ABELIAN GROUPS

  • We introduce ${\varphi}$-frames in $L^2$(G), as a generalization of a-frames defined in [8], where G is a locally compact Abelian group and ${\varphi}$ is a topological automorphism on G. We give a characterization of ${\varphi}$-frames with regard to usual frames in $L^2$(G) and show that ${\varphi}$-frames share several useful properties with frames. We define the associated ${\varphi}$-analysis and ${\varphi}$-preframe operators, with which we obtain criteria for a sequence to be a ${\varphi}$-frame or a ${\varphi}$-Bessel sequence. We also define ${\varphi}$-Riesz bases in $L^2$(G) and establish equivalent conditions for a sequence in $L^2$(G) to be a ${\varphi}$-Riesz basis.

Compact Robotic Arm to Assist with Eating using a Closed Link Mechanism (크로스 링크 기구를 적용한 소형 식사지원 로봇)

  • We succeeded to build a cost effective assistance robotic arm with a compact and lightweight body. The robotic arm has three joints, and the tip of robotic arm to install tools consists of a closed link mechanism, which consisted of two actuators and several links. The robotic arm has been made possible by the use of actuators typically used in radio control devices. The controller of the robotic arm consists of a single chip PIC only. The robotic arm has a friendly user interface, as the operators are aged and disabled in most cases. The operator can manipulate the robotic arm by voice commands or by pressing a push button. The robotic arm has been successfully prototyped and tested on an elderly patient to assist with eating. The results of field test were satisfactory.

  • The approximate controllability for the nonlinear control system with nonlinear monotone hemicontinuous and coercive operator is studied. The existence, uniqueness and a variation of solutions of the system are also given.
