The SIHR program was administered to four disability for 1 hour a day, 2 or 3 times a week, for 8 weeks, and their self-rehabilitation was monitored once a week for 4 weeks. After all intervention periods, in-depth interviews were conducted by using a semi-structured questionnaire for the therapists and disability. Results: The therapists were satisfied with the contents of the SIHR program, such as behavioral change technique and goal-directed training. They were also satisfied with the process of developing the program through a community network. Disabilities were satisfied with the therapists' persuasive and emotionally interactive way of delivering the SIHR program as well as the individually customized rehabilitation training and physical improvement. The short period (8 weeks) of the SIHR program was noted by both therapists and disabilities as the part that needs improvement. Conclusion: The SIHR program developed using the CBPR approach was feasible and satisfying to therapists and disabilities. However, a longer SIHR program should be developed. Community networks could help therapists effectively utilize community resources and thereby provide more rehabilitation program for persons with disability.

  • Community action is an essential component for health promotion. Through effective community action, a community can gain control over its health & health determinants, and improve the quality of its life. The Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (WHO, 1984)stated that a health promotion program that stimulates and strengthens community health activity is one of the five main action areas in the field of health promotion. This paper reviews the meaning and key concept of community health promotion action, and discusses ways to strengthen community action as defined by the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion. It discusses the principle of community participation for health promotion, and, taking a successful example of a community-based health promotion program, it provides an illustrative example of how to build partnerships and coalitions in a community. Community development theories for community-based approaches are also introduced, along with their key concepts. Finally, the paper assesses the barriers to effective community health promotion action in Korea, and proposes several strategies for strengthening community action for health promotion.

The community networking were constructed of community health center, headquarters for community child center and school of dental hygiene in community. First, we were educated the student and teacher of community child center, separately. The teacher of community health center were supported and monitored the children. The comparison was done in independent t-test of awareness, knowledge and behavior of children of community child center in both lower grades and upper grades and paired t-test of patient hygiene performance (PHP) index was conducted before and after oral health promotion program. As a result, PHP index and oral health knowledge increased significantly after oral health program in lower grades and upper grades (p<0.001). The positive attitude for oral health about "Whatever I do, my tooth-will be decayed" increased more in upper grades better than lower grades after oral health promotion program (p<0.05). We suggest that oral health program based on community networking should be constructed for oral health promotion of elementary school students in community child center.
