Analysis of Flooding Discharge in Seoul-Metropolitan Area based on Return Periods

  • In recent years, urban floods have become more frequent, causing significant harm to society and resulting in substantial losses to the national economy and people's lives and property. To assess the impact of floods on people's safety and property in Seoul, annual precipitation data from 1980 to 2020 was analyzed for return periods of 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 years. A rainfall runoff simulation model for Seoul was established using HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS models. The study revealed that at a 5-year return period, water began to accumulate in Seoul, but it was not severe. However, at a 10-year return period, the water accumulation was relatively serious, and inundation began to occur. At a 20-year return period, there was serious water accumulation and inundation in Seoul. During a 50-year return period, Seoul suffered from severe inundation in commercial areas, resulting in substantial losses to the local economy. The findings indicate that Seoul City faces high flood risks, and measures should be taken to mitigate the impact of floods on the city's residents and economy.

The Effect of Investing into Distribution Information and Communication Technologies on Banking Performance the Empirical Evidence from an Emerging Country

  • Purpose: This study aims to investigate the impact of investing into technology development on banking performance in an emerging country. Research design, data and methodology: Based on the data of 12 commercial banks listed in Vietnam from 2011 to 2019 and performing multivariable regression analyses as well as conducting a variety of robustness tests, we carry out the empirical investigation to discover this impact. Results: Our empirical evidence shows that these spending help to improve significantly performance of banks. Particularly, the technology expenditures have positive effect on the net interest margin and the non-interest income in which the level of influence on the latter is relatively remarkable in comparison with the former. At the same time, the result does not support the view that increasingly spending on technology may lead banks to face the risk of instability. Conclusions: Overall, our empirical analysis indicates that increasing investment into distribution information and communication technologies will help to enhance business strategies of banks and thus we advocate the bright side of technology development and digitalization in banking sector. We believe that the research is useful for both managers, regulators and policy makers in Vietnam as well as in countries having similar financial structure.

Effects of Asset Diversification and Human Capital Efficiency on Bank Performance: Evidence from Asian Countries

  • This study seeks to determine if the efficiency of bank human resources, as played by human capital, impacts the performance and diversification of banks. This study uses secondary data from data obtained from 385 commercial banks in 33 countries in Asia during the 2010-2020 period with the diversification analysis method. We use the Z-score to measure the amount of standard deviation that must be from earnings (ROAA). We examined it using the Tobit regression technique. According to the regression estimation results, human capital has a significant role in the performance and effective diversification of Asian banks. The human capital efficiency coefficient (HCE) is significantly negative with the cost-to-income ratio (CTIR) and significantly positive with Profitability, Financial Stability, and cost efficiency score. The level of efficiency of human resources has an effective role in increasing human capital which has an impact on bank diversification and performance. The development of human resources in a human capital framework plays an important role in the diversification and improvement of bank performance. Human capital has a significant role in the performance and effective diversification of Asian banks. The level of efficiency of human resources has an effective role in increasing human capital which has an impact on bank diversification and performance.

Evaluation of Yeast Diversity During Wine Fermentations with Direct Inoculation and pied de cuve Method at an Industrial Scale

  • The diversity and composition of yeast populations may greatly impact wine quality. This study investigated the yeast microbiota in two different types of wine fermentations: direct inoculation of a commercial starter versus pied de cuve method at an industrial scale. The pied de cuve fermentation entailed growth of the commercial inoculum used in the direct inoculation fermentation for further inoculation of additional fermentations. Yeast isolates were collected from different stages of wine fermentation and identified to the species level using Wallersterin Laboratory nutrient (WLN) agar followed by analysis of the 26S rDNA D1/D2 domain. Genetic characteristics of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains were assessed by a rapid PCR-based method, relying on the amplification of interdelta sequences. A total of 412 yeast colonies were obtained from all fermentations and eight different WL morphotypes were observed. Non-Saccharomyces yeast mainly appeared in the grape must and at the early stages of wine fermentation. S. cerevisiae was the dominant yeast species using both fermentation techniques. Seven distinguishing interdelta sequence patterns were found among S. cerevisiae strains, and the inoculated commercial starter, AWRI 796, dominated all stages in both direct inoculation and pied de cuve fermentations. This study revealed that S. cerevisiae was the dominant species and an inoculated starter could dominate fermentations with the pied de cuve method under controlled conditions.

셀슈머(Sell-sumer)로 진화한 인플루언서의 새로운 유형과 소셜미디어에서의 세일즈 전략 (Sell-sumer: The New Typology of Influencers and Sales Strategy in Social Media)

  • 전 세계 인구의 49%가 소셜미디어 플랫폼을 사용하면서 소셜미디어 내에서의 소통과 콘텐츠 공유가 그 어느때보다 활발해지고 있다. 이러한 환경 속에서 1인미디어 시장이 빠른 속도로 성장하고 여론을 형성하면서 셀슈머(Sell-summer)라는 새로운 트렌드가 등장했다. 본 연구는 인플루언서의 상업적/비상업적 키워드의 주제 집중도와 상업적 포스팅의 비율이 매출에 미치는 영향 분석하여 제품 카테고리별 인플루언서의 새로운 유형을 정의하였다. 이는 소셜미디어 내에서 활동하는 인플루언서가 셀슈머로 변모하며 구사하는 새로운 세일즈 전략에 도움이 될 것으로 희망한다. 본 연구의 방법은 파이썬 환경에서 인플루언서의 상업적/비상업적 포스팅으로 분류하고, 이를 KoNLPy를 이용하여 텍스트 마이닝 한 후 FastText 기반 단어 간의 유사도를 계산하였다. 그 결과, 인플루언서의 상업적 포스팅의 키워드 주제 집중도가 높을수록(narrow) 매출이 높아진다는 것을 확인하였다. 또한, 군집분석을 통해 제품 카테고리별 인플루언서 유형을 4가지로 분류하고 매출에 따른 집단 간의 차이가 유의함을 확인하였다. 즉, 본 연구의 시사점은 소셜미디어에서 활동하는 인플루언서들과 이를 마케팅 도구로 활용하고자 하는 마케터들에게 소셜미디어 세일즈 전략의 실증적인 해법을 제시할 수 있을 것이다.

임팩트 투자자의 투자 우선순위와 비중 차이에 관한 연구 (Investment Priorities and Weight Differences of Impact Investors)

  • 최근 정부와 공공의 역할만으로 사회문제를 모두 해결하기에는 한계가 있어서, 시장에서 영리 조직의 효율성이나 효과성을 통해 사회문제를 해결하면서 성장하는 것을 목표로 하는 소셜벤처의 필요성이 증대되었다. 이러한 배경하에 국내 스타트업 생태계에서도 소셜벤처 창업이 증가하면서 소셜벤처 투자자인 임팩트 투자자에 대한 관심도 증가하고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구는 임팩트 투자자의 투자 결정에 있어서 인지과정과 의사결정 환경에 따른 판단 정보의 타당도와 가중치를 객관적으로 분석하고자 판단분석기법을 활용하였다. 연구 진행을 위한 세 가지 분류로 첫째, 투자자로서 재무적 이익과 회수 가능성 판단을 위한 초기투자단계에서의 투자 우선 순위, 둘째, 사회에 미치는 영향과 파급력, 그리고 소셜벤처의 상생과 연대를 위한 창업가(팀)의 정치적 기술, 셋째, 임팩트투자펀드 조성 목적에 부합하는 소셜벤처기업의 소셜미션으로 구성하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 임팩트투자자의 투자결정의 우선 순위는 창업가(팀)의 전문성, 창업가(팀)의 성공시의 잠재적 수익률, 창업가(팀)의 소셜미션인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 임팩트투자자가 투자결정요인에 대하여 판단하는 인식이 획일적이기보다는 투자 결정 요소가 제각각 다르며, 비중을 두는 정도에 있어서도 생각의 차이가 있다는 것이다. 셋째, 임팩트투자의 다양한 투자결정 요인에서 '창업자(팀)의 네트워킹 능력', '창업자(팀)의 사회적 통찰력', '창업자(팀)의 대인관계 영향력은 다른 4개의 요인보다 상대적으로 낮게 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 실무적 기여점은 소셜벤처기업들이 투자 유치과정에서 임팩트투자자의 투자결정요인이 무엇인지 이해를 돕고, 소셜벤처 투자자에게는 임팩트투자자의 판단사례와 분석을 참고하여 투자결정의 질적 제고를 기대할 수 있다. 학술적 기여점은 임팩트 투자자의 투자 우선 순위와 비중 차이를 실증적으로 규명하였다는 것이다.

지표수 열교환기 설계 변수와 적용 효과에 대한 선행 분석 (Preliminary Analysis on Design Parameters and Application Effects of Surface Water Heat Exchanger (SWHE))

  • Commercial buildings and institutions are generally cooling-dominated and therefore reject more heat to a borehole ground heat exchanger (BHE) than they extract over the annual cycle. Shallow ponds can provide a cost-effective means to balance the thermal loads to the ground and to reduce the length of BHE. This paper presents the analysis results of the impact of design parameters on the length of SWHE pipe and its application effect on geothermal heat pump (GHP) system using BHE. In order to analysis, we applied ${\varepsilon}-NTU$ method on designing the length of SWHE pipe. Analysis results show that the required pipe length of SWHE was decreased with the increase of approach temperature difference and with the decrease of pipe wall thickness. In addition, when the SWHE was applied to the GHP system, the temperature of BHE was more stable than that of standalone BHE system.

전산유체역학을 이용한 컨테이너 선수갑판 쇄파판에 작용하는 충격하중 계산 (Numerical Computations of Impact Forces Acting on Breakwater Plate of Bow Deck of Container Carrier)

  • In this study, numerical studies using a Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) method were carried out to estimate the green water load acting on the breakwater plate of bow deck of container carrier, KCS. For the green load water load analysis, a full load condition was considered. The relative motions at bow deck were calculated from the seakeepig analysis. Statistical analysis were carried out to estimate the long term response of the relative motions with the North Atlantic wave scatter diagram. The equivalent design wave was determined from the RAO of the relative motions at bow and the long term responses. CFD geometry modeling with three different locations and simulations for the green water loads were carried out in the equivalent design waves. A commercial CFD program, STAR-CCM+ Ver. 8.04, was used and the green water pressures on the breakwater plate were calculated successfully. The CFD analysis for green water loads can be used as a useful design tool for the evaluation of the breakwater plate of the container vessel.

Modeling and simulation of VERA core physics benchmark using OpenMC code

  • Detailed analysis of the neutron pathway through matter inside the nuclear reactor core is exceedingly needed for safety and economic considerations. Due to the constant development of high-performance computing technologies, neutronics analysis using computer codes became more effective and efficient to perform sophisticated neutronics calculations. In this work, a commercial pressurized water reactor (PWR) presented by Virtual Environment for Reactor Applications (VERA) Core Physics Benchmark are modeled and simulated using a high-fidelity simulation of OpenMC code in terms of criticality and fuel pin power distribution. Various problems have been selected from VERA benchmark ranging from a simple two-dimension (2D) pin cell problem to a complex three dimension (3D) full core problem. The development of the code capabilities for reactor physics methods has been implemented to investigate the accuracy and performance of the OpenMC code against VERA SCALE codes. The results of OpenMC code exhibit excellent agreement with VERA results with maximum Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) values of less than 0.04% and 1.3% for the criticality eigenvalues and pin power distributions, respectively. This demonstrates the successful utilization of the OpenMC code as a simulation tool for a whole core analysis. Further works are undergoing on the accuracy of OpenMC simulations for the impact of different fuel types and burnup levels and the analysis of the transient behavior and coupled thermal hydraulic feedback.

지표수 열교환기의 용량과 적용 효과에 대한 설계 인자의 영향 (Impact of Design Parameters on Length and Application Effect of Surface Water Heat Exchanger(SWHE))

  • 본 연구에서는 설계 인자가 지표수 열교환기 길이에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 또한 수직 밀폐형 지중열교환기와 지표수 열교환기를 같이 이용한다고 가정한 후, 지중 순환수의 온도 변화를 분석하였다. 지표수 열교환기 출구 온도와 연못 온도의 차이를 크게 하면, 열교환기 파이프 길이는 줄어들었다. 아울러 연못 온도가 높을수록 파이프 길이는 감소하지만, 파이프 바깥지름의 영향은 상대적으로 적었다. 또한 파이프 두께가 얇을수록 전도 열전달에서 열저항의 영향이 감소하기 때문에 파이프 길이는 감소하였다. 수직 밀폐형 시스템에 지표수 열교환기를 추가 적용하면, 지중열교환기 순환수 온도는 시간이 지날수록 감소하였다.
