In this paper, we consider the routing and wavelength assignment problem in survivable WDM transport network without wavelength conversion. We assume the single-link failure and a path protection scheme in optical layer. When a physical network and a set of working paths are given, the problem is to select a link-disjoint protection path for each working path and assign a wavelength for each working and protection path. We give an integer programming formulation of the problem and propose an algorithm to solve it. Though the formulation has exponentially many variables, we solve the linear programming relaxation of it by using column generation technique. We devise a branch-and price algorithm to solve the column generation problem. After solving the linear programming relaxation, we apply a variable fixing procedure combined with the column generation to get an integral solution. We test the proposed algorithm on some randomly generated data and test results show that the algorithm gives very good solutions.
The reliable prediction of elastic vibrations of wetted complex structures, as ships, tanks, offshore structures, propulsion components etc. represent a theoretical and numerical demanding task due to fluid-structure interaction. The paper presented is addressed to the vibration analysis by a combined FE-BE-procedure based on the added mass concept utilizing a direct boundary integral formulation of the potential fluid problem in interior and exterior domains. The discretization is realized by boundary element collocation method using conventional as well as infinite boundary element formulation with analytical integration scheme. Particular attention is devoted to modelling of interior problems with both several separate or communicating fluid domains as well as thin-walled structures wetted on both sides. To deal with this specific kind of interaction problems so-called "virtual" boundary elements in areas of cut outs are placed to satisfy the kinematical conditions in partial connected fluid domains existing in realistic tank systems. Numerical results of various theoretical and practical examples demonstrate the performance of the BE-methodology presented.
To develop the code of predicting flow-field and aeroacoustic noise by an electrical cable, a combined CFD-Acoustic analogy approach is selected. The two dimensional, unsteady and incompressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes solver with κ-ω and κ-ω SST turbulence modeling is used to calculate the near flow-field around an electric cable. Near-field results are then coupled with two-dimensional Curle's integral formulation based upon Lighthill's acoustic analogy with the assumption of acoustic compactness. To validate this code, numerical results are compared with experimental data for a circular cylinder. The simulation shows an overprediction on acoustic amplitudes, but overally speaking, the spectrum pattern of sound pressure agrees well with experiment within an acceptable amount of error. In addition, a few cross-sections of the cable were selected and tested with each other in terms of drag and radiated noise

A fully-coupled thermodynamic-based transient finite element formulation is proposed in this article for electric, magnetic, thermal and mechanic fields interactions limited to the linear case. The governing equations are obtained from conservation principles for both electric and magnetic flux, momentum and energy. A full-interaction among different fields is defined through Helmholtz free-energy potential, which provides that the constitutive equations for corresponding dual variables can be derived consistently. Although the behavior of the material is linear, the coupled interactions with the other fields are not considered limited to the linear case. The implementation is carried out in a research version of the research computer code FEAP by using 8-node isoparametric 3D solid elements. A range of numerical examples are run with the proposed element, from the relatively simple cases of piezoelectric, piezomagnetic, thermoelastic to more complicated combined coupled cases such as piezo-pyro-electric, or piezo-electro-magnetic. In this paper, some of those interactions are illustrated and discussed for a simple geometry.
This paper presents a simplified analytical formulation for computing acoustic power radiation from a rectangular plate exposed to random forces such as turbulent boundary layer pressure fluctuations and arbitrary mechanical force in a subsonic flow field. The expression for the acoustic power is derived using modal expansion method and light fluid loading is assumed on the plate. In order to simplify the formulation for acoustic power due to combined excitations of mechanical forces and turbulent pressures, it is assumed that the structural damping of the plate is small and excitations are broadband random forces having frequency spectra above the convective coincidence. Under these assumptions, an approximate solution for the broadband acoustic power radiation from a plate excited by both turbulent pressures and arbitrary mechanical forces is obtained and evaluated considering the effect of modal coupling on the radiated acoustic power. An efficient method is also suggested to compute modal acoustic impedance in a moving fluid medium by using averaged Green function.

This paper presents a non-linear analysis procedure for plane frame structures by finite element formulation with assumptions of Timoshenko beam theory. Finite element displacement method based on Lagrangian formulation is used and two-noded and isoparametric line element is adopted to represent finite element model. The layered approach is used for the elasto-plastic analysis of the plane frame structures with rectangular and I cross sections. A load incremental method combined with the tangent stiffness and the initial stiffness methods for each load increment is used for the solution of non-linear equations. Numerical examples are presented to investigate the behavior and the accuracy of the elasto-plastic non-linear application and the results of this study are compared with other solutions using the concept of plastic hinge.
A three-dimensional constitutive modeling for reinforced concrete is presented for finite element nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete. The targets of interest to the authors are columns confined by lateral steel hoops, RC thin shells subjected to combined in-plane and out-of-plane actions and massive structures of three-dimensional (3D) extent in shear. The elasto-plastic and continuum fracture law is applied to pre-cracked solid concrete. For post cracking formulation, fixed multi-directional smeared crack model is adopted for RC domains of 3D geometry subjected to monotonic and reversed cyclic actions. The authors propose a new scheme of decomposing stress strain fields into sub-planes on which 2D constitutive laws can be applied. The proposed model for 3D reinforced concrete is experimentally verified in both member and structural levels under cyclic actions.
An automatic approach and strategy for extracting building information from aerial images using combined image analysis and interpretation techniques is described in this paper. A dense DSM is obtained by stereo image matching. Multi-band classification, DSM, texture segmentation and Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) are used to reveal building interest areas. Then, based on the derived approximate building areas, a shape modelling algorithm based on the level set formulation of curve and surface motion has been used to precisely delineate the building boundaries. Data fusion, based on the Dempster-Shafer technique, is used to interpret simultaneously knowledge from several data sources of the same region, to find the intersection of propositions on extracted information derived from several datasets, together with their associated probabilities. A number of test areas, which include buildings with different sizes, shape and roof colour have been investigated. The tests are encouraging and demonstrate that the system is effective for building extraction, and the determination of more accurate elevations of the terrain surface.

Direct numerical simulation of bubble growth and merger process on a single nucleation site during partial nucleate boiling is performed. The equations governing conservation of mass, momentum and energy are solved using a finite difference method combined with a level set method for capturing the vapor-liquid interface. The level set method is modified to include the effects of phase change at the interface and contact angle at the wall. Also, a simplified formulation for predicting the evaporative heat flux in a thin liquid micro-layer is developed and incorporated into the level set formulation. Based on the numerical results, the bubble growth and merger pattern and its effect on the heat transfer are discussed.

A theoretical formulation for the analysis of free vibration of clamped-free cylindrical shells with plates attached at arbitrary axial positions was derived and it was programed to get the numerical results which yield natural frequencies and mode shape of the combined system of plate and shells. The frequencies and mode shapes from theoretical calculation were compared with those of commercial finite element code, ANSYS as well as modal test in order to validate the formulation. The effects of the thickness and location of the plate were evaluated.
