  • In this paper, we present a new method that can detect forged color region using color pattern decomposition and hypothesis testing approach. On the basis of the fact that the variance of the interpolated pixel is smaller than that of the original pixel, we use a statistical test method to judge the statistical inconsistency of variance. For this, we calculate the variance adopting a color pattern decomposition according to the demosaicking pattern. In addition, we apply high-pass filtering to enlarge the difference between the variances of original and interpolated pixel. Through experimental simulations, we can see that our proposed method can effectively detect forged color regions and shows superior detection performance compared to the conventional method.

  • Color image is formed of combination of three color channels. Therefore its architecture is very complicated and it requires complicated image Processing for effective image segmentation. In this paper. we propose architecture of universalized Color Morphological Pyramids(CMP) which is able to give effective image segmentation. Image Pyramid architecture is a successive Image sequence whose area ratio $2^{\int}({\int}=1,2,....,N)$ after filtering and subsampling of input image. In this technique, noise removed by sequential filtering and resolution is degraded by downsampling using CMP in various color spaces. After that, new level images are constructed that apply formula using distance of neighbor vectors in close level images and segments its image. The feasibility of proposed method is examined by comparing with the results obtained from the existing method.

  • This study focuses on the application of a new measurement method that quantifies the residual color of filtered water using a spectrocolorimeter after filtering the discolored substances. It was confirmed through the color and turbidity cross-test that the discolored substances cannot be measured effectively with the current legal color and turbidity test method. Therefore, the National Institute of Environmental Research's filter testing method, which involves filtering the sample through 0.45 ㎛ filter and visually inspecting the color, was improved. A membrane filter colorimetry (MFC) method was established by measuring the color difference (ΔE*ab(65)) of the filtered filter using a spectrophotometer and expressing it as filter color unit (FCU). Using the MFC method, the FCU for reference materials such as iron and manganese, as well as field samples, was measured. The results showed a high correlation with turbidity, and the color difference patterns varied depending on the type of reference materials and field samples. This indicates that the MFC method is an effective new measurement method of discolored tap water.

  • The phenomenon of color sensory has been mainly studied on the relation with the stimulus source of light source color according to dispersed energy of light. However, it has not been definitely found that the phenomenon of color sensory be collcerned with evoked potentials stimulated by object color. This paper proposes the method that evoked potentials stimulated by object colors are analyzed and examined on the phenomemon of color sensory. The model of evoked potentials is assumed that it is consisted of an additive noise and a transient signal caused by stimulus. The method which is used to estimate the signal is time-varying filtering.

  • In this paper, we present a new texture image retrieval method which combines color and texture features extracted from images by a set of multi-resolution multi-direction (MRMD) filters. The MRMD filter set chosen is simple and can be separable to low and high frequency information, and provides efficient multi-resolution and multi-direction analysis. The color space used is HSV color space separable to hue, saturation, and value components, which are easily analyzed as showing characteristics similar to the human visual system. This experiment is conducted by comparing precision vs. recall of retrieval and feature vector dimensions. Images for experiments include Corel DB and VisTex DB; Corel_MR DB and VisTex_MR DB, which are transformed from the aforementioned two DBs to have multi-resolution images; and Corel_MD DB and VisTex_MD DB, transformed from the two DBs to have multi-direction images. According to the experimental results, the proposed method improves upon the existing methods in aspects of precision and recall of retrieval, and also reduces feature vector dimensions.

  • In general, as a dynamic range of digital still camera is narrower than a real scene‘s, it is hard to represent the shadow region of scene. Thus, multi-scaled retinex algorithm is used to improve detail and local contrast of the shadow region in an image by dividing the image by its local average images through Gaussian filtering. However, if the chromatic distribution of the original image is not uniform and dominated by a certain chromaticity, the chromaticity of the local average image depends on the dominant chromaticity of original image, thereby the colors of the resulting image are shifted to a complement color to the dominant chromaticity. In this paper, a modified multi-scaled retinex method to reduce the influence of the dominant chromaticity is proposed. In multi-scaled retinex process, the local average images obtained by Gaussian filtering are divided by the average chromaticity values of the original image in order to reduce the influence of dominant chromaticity. Next, the chromaticity of illuminant is estimated in highlight region and the local average images are corrected by the estimated chromaticity of illuminant. In experiment, results show that the proposed method improved the local contrast and detail without color distortion.

  • Face recognition is very challenging because of the unexpected changes of pose, expression, and illumination. Facial detection in the mobile environments has additional difficulty since the computational resources are very limited. This paper discusses face detection based on frequency domain matched filtering in the mobile environments. Face detection is performed by a linear or phase-only matched filter and sequential verification stages. The candidate window regions are selected by a number of peaks of the matched filtering outputs. The sequential stages comprise a skin-color test and an edge mask filtering tests, which aim to remove false alarms among selected candidate windows. The algorithms are built with JAVA language on the mobile device operated by the Android platform. The simulation and experimental results show that real-time face detection can be performed successfully in the mobile environments.

The method which is used to estimate the signal is time-varying. filtering (TVF). At the results of experiment which used object colors, it is shown that color sensory times of red are within the range of 0.0~0.25[sec], those of yellow are within the range of 0.25~0.55[sec], and those of blue are within the range of 0.55~0.75[sec]; they are inclined to sequence in accending order as red, yellow, and blue.

  • In this paper, we propose a fuzzy method that improves the existing problem of the fuzzy filtering algorithm. The proposed fuzzy filtering algorithm separates R, G, and B channels from the color image. Mask information was extracted from separated channels and the brightness of the mean value and median value for channels was applied in the function of the proposed fuzzy method to calculate the membership and achieve application in the inference rule. Also, the membership degrees of R, G, and B were used to distinguish the possibility of noise. The proposed fuzzy method selected three membership functions. If noise is distinguished, the noise is eliminated by selecting the median value or mean value as the relevant pixel value according to the degree of noise. By applying the proposed method in color images, it was verified that the proposed method is more effective in eliminating noise when compared with the conventional fuzzy filtering method.

  • This paper presents an effective demosaicking algorithm for color filter array (CFA) images acquired from single-sensor devices based on directional interpolation and nonlocal properties of the image. We interpolate the G channel considering diagonal directions as well as horizontal and vertical directions, using a small number of pixels to reflect local properties of the image. Then, we overcome image degradations, such as zipper effects near edges and false colors, by applying nonlocal means (NLM) filtering to the interpolated pixels. R and B channels are reproduced by using directional interpolation with information of the reconstructed G channel and NLM filtering. Experimental results for various McMaster images with high saturation and color changes show that the proposed algorithm accomplishes high PSNR compared with conventional methods. Moreover, the proposed method demonstrates better subjective quality compared with existing methods in terms of reduction of quality degradation, like false colors, and preservation of the image structures, such as edges and textures.
