The public health students(84.8%) had a higher positive response rate than the non-public health students(66.2%). The public health students(80.2%) had a higher negative response rate than the non-public health students(78.5%) in the result of onset of gum disease pain awareness. The non-public health students(65.5%) had a higher negative response rate than the public health students(68.3%)) in the result of heredity of gum disease. The t-test showed that public health-related department students(M=8.264, SD=0.821) had more knowledge about oral hygiene than non-public health-related department students(M=8.015, SD=1.082). • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to obtain data that can be utilized in the planning of oral health education, by surveying the correlation between oral health knowledge, attitudes, and behavior among elementary school students. Methods : A questionnaire was administered to 227 students in the 5th and 6th grades in Hongseong-gun. The obtained data were analyzed with the SPSS 14.0 program. Results : Knowledge of oral health was very high. Correct attitudes and positive behavior were indicated. There was a significant difference in oral health behavior according to school year(p<0.05). Positive correlation was significantly observed among oral health knowledge, attitudes, and behavior(p<0.01). Especially, attitudes and behavior were highly correlated(r=0.583). Conclusions : Children's knowledge, attitudes, and behavior toward oral health were mutually influenced. Thus, oral health education should be carried out with the goal of causing changes in the attitudes and behavior of students, as opposed to delivering simple knowledge. Through continuous oral health education, correct oral health knowledge and behavior can be developed. Thus oral health education was expected to promote healthy habit for oral health.

Methods : The subjects in this study were 520 students who included dental hygiene students from J health college and other majors from a four-year university located in Seoul. The survey was conducted from September, 2010, to June 3, 2011. The collected 507 questionnaires were analyzed. The collected data were analyzed by the statistical package SPSS WIN 12.0, and the level of significance was set at 0.05. Results : 1. As for a daily toothbrushing frequency, the largest number of the students brushed their teeth three times a day, and the dental hygiene students did that more often than the other majors(p<0.001). Concerning awareness of the toothbrushing method and the time for the change of the toothbrush, the rolling method was more prevailing among the dental hygiene students than the others(p<0.001). 2. In regard to education experience about the toothbrushing method and satisfaction with the existing toothbrushing method, 64.7% of respondents ever received education about the toothbrushing method(p<0.001). 3. As to scaling experience and gingival bleeding, the dental hygiene students had more scaling experiences(p<0.001), and the other majors who underwent gingival bleeding from time to time outnumbered the dental hygiene students who did(p<0.01). 4. In relation to subjective oral health status, the dental hygiene students found themselves to be in better oral health than the other majors(p<0.001), and the latter had more parts of the mouth in which they didn't feel well than the former(p<0.01). The dental hygiene students were more concerned about their oral health(p<0.001) and felt more uncomfortable in chewing(p<0.05). The other majors felt more uncomfortable in pronunciation(p<0.01). Conclusions : The results of this study indicated that dental hygiene students strongly recognized the importance of knowledge, motivation, and self-care behaviors, and attitudes towards oral health and dental care compared to other college students. • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health care and educational needs of college students in an effort to give some suggestions on the development of oral health educational media. It's basically meant to boost the efficiency of oral health education geared toward college students. Methods : The subjects in this study were 500 students at seven different colleges located in Daejeon and South Choongcheong Province. After a survey was conducted, frequency analysis and ANOVA were utilized to analyze the collected data. And the records of the in-depth interviews of 10 students were analyzed as well. Results : The gender of the students and whether their major was linked to health or not made differences to their knowledge of dental caries. And there was nothing to affect their knowledge of periodontal diseases except whether their major was related to health or not. They didn't have a good knowledge of periodontal diseases, and they just regarded toothbrushing as a means to prevent dental caries and periodontal diseases. They preferred to acquire knowledge over the Internet. Conclusions : College students who don't know well about periodontal diseases should be given an opportunity to learn about periodontal diseases and diverse ways of preventing dental caries and periodontal diseases other than toothbrushing. As the college students preferred to surf the Internet, educational programs should be developed in the form of video clips that can be found over the Internet, and more aggressive publicity is required via SNS, etc.
