The application of fuzzy mathemation method in antiseismic structures

  • In this paper, the fuzzy ISODATA algorithm is applied to forecasting liquefaction of sand in the antiseismic structures. According to the data of the earthquake taken place in Tang Shan in 1976, we construct a model of mathematics, on which we forecast 32 samples in the earthquake of Tang Shan. The correct rate of forecast is 90.7 %.

수학적 탐구력 신장을 위한 테크놀로지의 활용의 효과 (The Effective Use of a Technology Tool for Students' Mathematical Exploration)

  • This study sought to determine the impact of the graphing calculator on prospective math-teachers' mathematical thinking while they engaged in the exploratory tasks. To understand students' thinking processes, two groups of three students enrolled in the college of education program participated in the study and their performances were audio-taped and described in the observers' notebooks. The results indicated that the prospective teachers got the clues in recalling the prior memory, adapting the algebraic knowledge to given problems, and finding the patterns related to data, to solve the tasks based on inductive, deductive, and creative thinking. The graphing calculator amplified the speed and accuracy of problem-solving strategies and resulted partly in students' progress to the creative thinking by their concept development.

Improving Student Learning through a Team-Based Learning Approach in a Retailing Math Course

  • Passive learning attitudes and lack of enthusiasm in a retailing math course is quite common and a significant number of students do express their frustrations and struggles by seeking extra help outside the classroom. In order to promote students' active participation in class and to improve their performance and overall satisfaction with the course, a modified team-based learning (TBL) method was implemented in a retailing math course in two consecutive semesters. Implementing TBL into a retailing math course would improve students' accountability for their own learning, increase student interactions and engagement, and develop teamwork and collaboration skills. The scores on the midterm and final tests indicated that students' performance improved especially for the students who scored below 80% on each test when TBL was implemented. Students' reflection on the TBL activities done in class throughout the semester indicated that these TBL activities help them solidify the concepts taught in class better. They were able to realize their own mistakes and other group members who got the question right helped them understand. To maximize the benefit of TBL, it is suggested to implement TBL within the flipped classroom. Further research is called for to evaluate the effect of TBL on long-term knowledge retention among college students.

유치원 현장과 연계한 유아수학교육 수업을 통한 예비유아교사의 지식 및 인식 변화 탐색 (Exploring Changes of Pre-Service Teachers' Knowledge in Early Childhood Education through a Field-Based Math Lesson)

  • The objective of this study was to follow up changes in knowledge related to the mathematics education field work of preliminary early childhood teachers. The subjects of this research were 28 students who were taking mathematics education courses in early childhood education departments at various universities. This research ran for 15 weeks and was conducted through field work relating to mathematics education. The study collected data from pre-service teachers' knowledge, the diagram of concept, writing journals, interviews, and materials from the internet. Through this procedure, pre-service teachers' knowledge for mathematics education could later be expanded, ordered, and integrated. In addition, pre-service teachers not only understood the importance of contents and levels of lesson plans, but also learned how to utilize educational media to make effective lessons. Furthermore, pre-service teachers realized that the mathematical concepts of students could be expanded depending on the contents and methods of pre-service teachers' lesson plans and students could then apply these concepts into daily situations.

  • This study was to find the perception of mathematical & scientific learning of North Korean students who lived in Korea. To understand their perception, three groups as the focus group for clinical interview, consisting of North Korean students, their teaches and their parents, were investigated through narrative description of qualitative method, North Korean students experienced the gap between what they had learned and what they learned in Korea, due to visiting the 3rd country before they came to Korea. So they were in need of well developed instructional instruments based on a precise diagnosis of language ability to help them get over their difficulties. Second, they have difficulties in math & science classes due to differences between curricular and to the differences between the ways of expression of terminologies used in two countries. They expressed that the group work in learning and a great deal of number of problems could be helpful for their needs. Third, the community-service center should be operated in a systematic way to compensate their lack of getting a private education. Fourth, they thought that the supplemental materials should provide some sources that might help them to get over the language barrier and difficulties from the differences, because they depended on them.

대학수학 경사하강법(gradient descent method) 교수·학습자료 개발 (A Study on the Development of Teaching-Learning Materials for Gradient Descent Method in College AI Mathematics Classes)

  • 본 논문에서는 인공지능 알고리즘에서 많이 사용되는 경사하강법(gradient descent method)을 대학수학 강좌에서 인공지능 활용사례로 사용할 수 있도록 연구한 교수·학습 기초자료를 소개한다. 특히 대학 미적분학 수준에서도 가르칠 수 있도록 자세한 개념 설명과 함께 복잡한 함수에 관해서도 쉽게 계산할 수 있도록 파이썬(Python) 기반의 SageMath 코드를 제공한다. 그리고 실제 인공지능 응용과 연계하여 선형회귀에서 발생하는 최소제곱문제를 경사하강법을 활용하여 풀이한 예시도 함께 소개한다. 본 연구는 대학 미적분학 뿐만 아니라 공학수학, 수치해석, 응용수학 등과 같은 고급 수학 과목을 지도하는 다양한 교수자들에게 도움이 될 수 있다.

  • We would like to celebrate the birth of a journal on college mathematics education. We make wishes and hopes on the way of the growth and developments of the journal. We especially emphasize that the journal may provide the streams of knowledges from scholars to students for better accomplishments of college mathematics educations and the development and prosperity of our country, and a storage bank for our own (mathematical) knowledges for the creation of Korea's own mathematical traditions. 대학 신입생들의 함수의 그래프 표현에 관한 연구 (A study about Graph Representation of Function of College freshmen)

  • 한국의 대학수학교육은 학생들의 질적 그리고 수적 감소로 인해 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이 논문에서는 다항함수, 유리함수, 무리함수, 로그.지수함수와 같이 고등학교 수학과정에서 이미 습득한 기본적인 함수들에 대한 이해도를 측정하였다. 대전과 충청지역 4개 대학의 신입생 354명을 대상으로 조사한 결과, 다항함수를 제외한 주어진 함수들의 그래프를 그리지 못한 학생들이 절반 이상이었으며, 또한 함수가 지니고 있는 정보들(정의역, 치역, 최대.최소값, 주기, 평행이동)에 대한 이해가 부족한 것으로 나타났다.

  • 본 논문에서는 대학의 교양수학 과목의 개설 현황과 대학생들의 교양수학에 대한 인식에 대하여 알아보고, 교양수학에 대한 긍정적인 인식의 변화를 위한 방안에 대하여 연구하였다. 대학생들의 교양수학에 대한 현재의 인식과 교양수학에 대한 긍정적인 인식의 변화를 위하여 실생활과 관련된 수학적 내용을 위주로 하여 구성한 '수학과 문화'라는 교양수학과목을 수강하는 학생들을 대상으로 수강전과 후의 수학과목에 대한 인식의 변화를 조사?분석하였다. 그 결과 수학과목에 대한 인식이 긍정적으로 변화했음을 알 수 있었다.

Measurement Based on Socio-Cultural Background

  • We have known that ethno-mathematics is a field of a study that emphasizes the socio-cultural environment in which a person "does" mathematics as stated by D'Ambrosio(Ethno mathematics and its Place in the History and Pedagogy of Mathematics, 1985). Measurement is an important mathematical topic, which leads students to relate math to the eal-world applications, particularly with socio-cultural aspects. The purpose of this article is to review the history of the measurement system in Korea briefly and to adapt the measurement system into real-world problems so that children acquire measurement knowledge in the most natural way.
