A Study on the cold weather performance for diesel vehicle as fuel properties (연료물성에 따른 경유 차량의 저온성능 영향 연구)

  • At low temperature, Wax build-up and settling can affect adversely the cold weather performance of the diesel vehicle. In this study, we test the cold properties of diesel by blending ratio of biodiesel, kerosene and WAFI. Also, we test the cold weather performance for diesel vehicle by fuel cold properties. Cold properties of diesel are improved by adding the WAFI, kerosene and get worse by adding the biodiesel. WAFI is effective to improve a cold filter plugging point(CFPP) and Kerosene is effective to improve a cloud point(CP). CFPP and pour point(PP) are related to cold weather performance of diesel vehicle but CP is unrelated. CFPP indicate a limit temperature of vehicle driving possibility.

  • This study is to analyze and compare improved curing sheet with blue sheet in order to verify the performance related to tensile stress. As results, it is confirmed that improved curing sheet(MP+BBS1) is better than the blue sheet at using field already. Synthetically, curing sheet improved by MP is analyzed to be available instead of the original because it is superior to tensile stress.

  • Microalgae can offer an attractive way of generating renewable and sustainable biodiesel. Biodiesel derived from microagae can have lower impact on the environment and food supply than biodiesel produced from crops. But biodiesel derived from microagae have poor fuel properties at low temperature depending on their species. In this study, it was investigated that fuel characteristics of biodiesel derived from Tetraselmis sp. and cold weather performance of biodiesel blend (BD3, 3 vol.% biodiesel - 97 vol.% diesel). The startability and operability of the passenger car in BD3 was good at $-20^{\circ}C$.

  • When fresh concrete is exposed to the cold weather, the concrete may happen frost damage because of freezing at early ages and the strength development may be go down. Therefore, this paper is intend to investigate the properties and availabilities of cold weather concrete using anti-freeze based formate-acetate for ensure of excellent concrete quality on cold temperature. According to test result for concrete in anti-freeze agent, strength properties in sub-zero temperature increases in comparison with concrete of non anti-freeze agent without decline of strength until later age. When anti-freezing agent is added by 3.0% to binder, it gives good effects on the performance of the fresh and harden concrete.

Insulation Effect of Double Layered Bubble Sheet Application in Cold Weather Concrete and Initial Quality Control by Wireless Sensor Network (한중시공에서 2중 버블시트 포설에 따른 단열 효과분석 및 무선센서 네트워크에 의한 초기 품질관리)

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of the application of double layered bubble sheet on the curing of slab and wall concrete placed at the job site in cold weather and to offer a feasibility of Concrete IoT Management System(CIMS), which is wireless sensor network developed by the authors, to manage early age quality of the concrete in terms of temperature, maturity and strength development. Test results indicated that the application of bubble sheet enhances the insulation performance, which results in an increase of the temperature by around 1~20. 6℃. It is found that CIMS can gather the temperature, maturity and strength development data from the sensors embedded from 30 m far from CIMS successfully. Predicted compressive strengths by CIMS had good agreement with measured ones within 2 MPa error level until 7 days. It is thought that the combination of the bubble sheet application for cold weather protection and CIMS for quality management tool in cold weather concreting contributes to shorten the time for the form removal by one day.

  • In This study, we tried to review an efficient curing method in consideration of safety and constructability among the problems of winter construction. In other words, as a result of the mock-up test, the measured value of carbon monoxide was 0 ppm in the case of an electric hot air fan. Since there is no carbon monoxide, problems such as suffocation are expected to be solved. In terms of temperature characteristics, electric hot air fans exhibited high thermal efficiency performance with a slight difference in upper/lower temperatures compared to the existing ones. In the future, we plan to conduct thermal efficiency evaluation through actual site performance verification. We will propose an efficient curing method through applicability evaluation.

  • Icing problem of ice-strengthened vessels is an important issue when operating in low temperature environment and it can cause damage to deck machineries and emergency equipments. Many ice-strengthened vessels have since been constructed and operated in accordance with the ice class rules such as Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and so on. Therefore winterization is defined as the preparation of a ship for safe operation. In this research, anti-icing performance tests of weather-tight door have been carried out at various temperature conditions($5^{\circ}C$, $-10^{\circ}C$, $-20^{\circ}C$, $-30^{\circ}C$, $-40^{\circ}C$) in the low temperature cold room facility and then, ambient temperature, specimen temperature, electric current and temperature of heating cable were measured during the test operations. This research describes the construction guidelines of weather-tight door based on anti-icing test results to apply to the full-scale vessels.

  • This paper presents the effectiveness of cold weather concreting by applying both anti-freeze agent and insulating forms developed through previous study investigating insulating effects on the concrete and the strength gain. According to test results, in $-10^{\circ}C$ of air temperature, when euroforms are applied, the temperature of plain concrete drops below $0^{\circ}C$ and maintains its temperature during early 24 hours. However, when insulating forms are applied, the temperature of concrete keeps 8~$13^{\circ}C$ during first 24 hours. Insulating forms has better performance on insulating effects than existing euroforms. Concrete containing anti-freeze agent shows temperature rising effects about $1^{\circ}C$ compared to plain concrete. Strength gain of core concrete shows higher when insulating forms is applied.

  • In this study, using the double bubble sheet to anti-freezing method in winter the soil embanking Mock up as a part of the development process was carried out. As results, two layers of the double bubble sheet effect 12.6℃~13.8℃ temperature difference of out door temperature that proved superior insulation and thermal performance of the double bubble sheet.

Effect of the Kind of Modified Bubble Sheets on the Temperature Profiles and Crack Reduction of the Concrete under Hot Weather (표면개량 버블시트 종류 변화가 서중환경 콘크리트의 온도 및 균열발생에 미치는 영향)

  • There are various quality deteriorations of concrete such as plastic, drying shrinkage due to abrupt moisture evaporation, slump loss and cold joint under hot weather condition. To protect from above deteriorations, several kinds of modified bubble sheets have been applied to secure heat insulation performance. But, there is not enough application cases of bubble sheets at job site under hot weather condition. The objective of the paper is to investigate the temperature profile and crack occurrence of the concrete covered with five different kinds of surface curing sheets, which is placed under hot weather condition. Single layer transparent bubble sheet, white colored bubble sheet, aluminum metalizing bubble sheet and PE film are adopted for surface curing sheets. Test results indicated that application of aluminum metalizing bubble sheet had most favorable effect on the reduction of on temperature rise and on the crack reduction of concrete. But due to larger reflection of light by aluminum, it brings about visual pollution to the workers. Hence, the application of white colored bubble sheet can be the most desirable alternative to protect the concrete from hot weather in the field.
