휴대폰 셀 생산 공정 적용을 위한 양팔 로봇 개발 (Dual-arm Robot for Cell Production of Cellular Phone)

  • Recently, the requirement of automation in the cell production system is increasing due to a decrease of skilled workers who are the key point of a cell production system. This paper proposes a dual-arm robot designed and implemented with consideration of being applied to a cell production line of cellular phone. A specification was derived from the analysis of production process and the consideration of configuration for human-robot cooperation. Design and implementation results of the proposed dual-arm robot were suggested and the feasibility was verified through the demonstration of the proposed robot in some of packaging job of cellular phone.

연습이 화학문제 해결에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Training on Chemical Problem-Solving Learning)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of training and use of worked-example on chemical problem-solving learning. Schema acquisition and rule automation are the basic components of skilled problem-solving, which are dependent on appropriately focused attention and sufficient cognitive resources. Training and use of worked-example facilitate schema acquisition and rule automation, so improve problem-solving learning. The subjects of this study were 60 high school students. The average age was 17 years old. Then, they were randomly assigned to each groups and the chemical reaction problems used as experimental materials. The independent variables of this study were training and use of worked-examples and dependent variables were time for solution and the number of error. The results of this study were as follows; 1. The worked-example groups spent significantly less time on solution for acquisition problems than the conventional problem groups. 2. The long-acquisition groups spent significantly less time on solution for acquisition problems than the short-acquisition groups. 3. The modified worked-example groups did not spend significantly less time on solution for acquisition problems than the worked-example groups.

  • Information science is the study how in formation is transferred and all the intermediate steps of collecting, organizing, interpreting, storing, retrieving, disseminating and trans foming information. Professional education means the transfer of knowledge, the development of cognitive abilities and the infusion of professional attitudes. Training may be defined as practice-based instruction in the development and use of professional skills. Each is affected by the confluence of social, economic and technological realities of the environment where the learning takes place. We have witnessed controversy about methods of curriculum revision and change. Should information science courses be added to the traditional library science curriculum or should the new approaches be integrated within the subject matter of each individual course? The article is based upon the assumption that education for librarianship is at a turning point. To provide this information, 25 curricula of colleges and universities were analysed to assist in the study. Also 32 information professionals were asked to assist in the study. In the experimental part of this study, curricula based on the education and training of library and information profession als were examined. The most frequently offered compulsory course 'Introduction to Information Science' exposes students to a new way of looking at library and information problems. Information retrieval, library automation, computer programming, data processing, indexing and abstraction, communication, system analysis has offered. These indicate a curriculum slowly shift from traditional librarianship to an emphasis on computerization and automation. Also from a questionnaire listing 58 events might influence library and information science education.

SHERPA기법을 이용한 항공기 착륙상황에서 발생 가능한 인적오류 예측 (Predicting Human Errors in Landing Situations of Aircraft by Using SHERPA)

  • This study aims to examine probable human errors when landing an airplane by the use of SHERPA(systematic human error reduction and prediction approach) and propose methods for preventing the predictive human errors. It has been reported that human errors are concerned with a lot of accidents or incidents of an airplane. It is significant to predict presumable human errors, particularly in the operation mode of human-automation interaction, and attempt to reduce the likelihood of predicted human error. By referring to task procedures and interviewing domain experts, we analyzed airplane landing task by using HTA(hierarchical task analysis) method. In total, 6 sub-tasks and 19 operations were identified from the task analysis. SHERPA method was used for predicting probable human error types for each task. As a result, we identified 31 human errors and predicted their occurrence probability and criticality. Based on them, we suggested a set of methods for minimizing the probability of the predicted human errors. From this study, it can be said that SHERPA can be effectively used for predicting probable human error types in the context of human-automation interaction needed for navigating an airplane.

Leveraging Reinforcement Learning for Generating Construction Workers' Moving Path: Opportunities and Challenges

  • Travel distance is a parameter mainly used in the objective function of Construction Site Layout Planning (CSLP) automation models. To obtain travel distance, common approaches, such as linear distance, shortest-distance algorithm, visibility graph, and access road path, concentrate only on identifying the shortest path. However, humans do not necessarily follow one shortest path but can choose a safer and more comfortable path according to their situation within a reasonable range. Thus, paths generated by these approaches may be different from the actual paths of the workers, which may cause a decrease in the reliability of the optimized construction site layout. To solve this problem, this paper adopts reinforcement learning (RL) inspired by various concepts of cognitive science and behavioral psychology to generate a realistic path that mimics the decision-making and behavioral processes of wayfinding of workers on the construction site. To do so, in this paper, the collection of human wayfinding tendencies and the characteristics of the walking environment of construction sites are investigated and the importance of taking these into account in simulating the actual path of workers is emphasized. Furthermore, a simulation developed by mapping the identified tendencies to the reward design shows that the RL agent behaves like a real construction worker. Based on the research findings, some opportunities and challenges were proposed. This study contributes to simulating the potential path of workers based on deep RL, which can be utilized to calculate the travel distance of CSLP automation models, contributing to providing more reliable solutions.

A Framework for Cognitive Agents

  • We designed a family of completely autonomous mobile robots with local intelligence. Each robot has a number of on-board sensors, including vision, and does not rely on global positioning systems The on-board embedded controller is sufficient to analyze several low-resolution color images per second. This enables our robots to perform several complex tasks such as navigation, map generation, or providing intelligent group behavior. Not being limited to playing the game of soccer and being completely autonomous, we are also looking at a number of other interesting scenarios. The robots can communicate with each other, e.g. for exchanging positions, information about objects or just the local states they are currently in (e.g. sharing their current objectives with other robots in the group). We are particularly interested in the differences between a behavior-based approach versus a traditional control algorithm at this still very low level of action.

On Convergence and Parameter Selection of an Improved Particle Swarm Optimization

  • This paper proposes an improved particle swarm optimization named PSO with Controllable Random Exploration Velocity (PSO-CREV) behaving an additional exploration behavior. Different from other improvements on PSO, the updating principle of PSO-CREV is constructed in terms of stochastic approximation diagram. Hence a stochastic velocity independent on cognitive and social components of PSO can be added to the updating principle, so that particles have strong exploration ability than those of conventional PSO. The conditions and main behaviors of PSO-CREV are described. Two properties in terms of "divergence before convergence" and "controllable exploration behavior" are presented, which promote the performance of PSO-CREV. An experimental method based on a complex test function is proposed by which the proper parameters of PSO-CREV used in practice are figured out, which guarantees the high exploration ability, as well as the convergence rate is concerned. The benchmarks and applications on FCRNN training verify the improvements brought by PSO-CREV.

  • Development of human-system interfaces (HSI) supporting the interaction between human and automation-based systems, particularly safety-critical sociotechnial systems, entails a wide range of design and evaluation problems. To help HSI designers deal with these problems, many methodologies from traditional human-computer interaction, software engineering, and systems engineering have been applied; however, they have been proved inadequate to develop cognitively well engineered HSI. This paper takes a viewpoint that HSI development is itself a cognitive process consisting of various decision making and problem solving activities and then proposes a design requirements-driven process for developing HSI. High-level design problems and their corresponding design requirements for visual information display are explained to clarify the concept of design requirements. Lastly, conceptual design of software system to support the requirements-driven process and designers' knowledge management is described.

Distribution of Path Loss for Wireless Personal Networks Operating in a Square Region

  • Path loss plays fundamental roles in system design, spectrum management, and performance evaluation. The traditional path loss model has a slight inconvenience; it depends on the unknown distance. In this letter, we explore the probability distribution function (PDF) of path loss in an indoor office environment by randomizing out the distance variable. It is shown that the resulting PDF is not Gaussian-like but is skewed to the right, and both the PDF and the moments are related to the size of the office instead of the unknown distance. To be specific, we incorporate the IEEE 802.15.4a channel parameters into our model and tabulate the cumulative distribution function with respect to different room sizes. Through a simple example, we show how our model helps a cognitive spectrum user to infer path loss information of primary users without necessarily knowing their transmitter-receiver distance.

공학교육에서 비판적 사고와 창의적 문제해결력의 관계 (The Relation of Critical Thinking and Creative Problem-solving in Engineering Education)

  • The creative problem-solving becomes one of the most important cognitive skills in the engineering education. As AI and automation technology(of 4th Industrial Revolution) penetrate our everyday life, its role as a human ability is highlighted. In this paper, we examine the relation between the creative problem-solving and the critical thinking, and the usefulness of the latter in the engineering education. To sum up, the critical thinking is the pre-conditon of the creative problem-solving.
