Diversity of 30 Korean potato cultivars was evaluated using 14 microsatellite markers. Twelve microsatellite markers representing 12 loci in the potato genome detected 84 polymorphisms among 30 cultivars and revealed alleles with a mean of 7.00 alleles per primer. The polymorphism information content (PIC) value ranged from 0.57 to 0.93 with average of 0.82. Based on polymorphism, cluster analysis was conducted by the unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic average (UPGMA) methods. Thirty potato varieties were distinctly separated into 2 groups and similarity coefficient of cluster ranged from 0.58 to 0.95. Thirty tetraploid cultivars were evaluated for six important agronomic traits. One-way analysis of variance was done to look for the degree of relationships between individual markers and traits. K1 and K2 markers showed a significant association with amylose contents, starch contents, and specific gravity.
The color distribution functions (CDFs) of globular clusters (GCs) in individual early-type galaxies show great diversity in their morphology. Based on the conventional "linear" relationship between colors and metallicities of GCs, the inferred GC metallicity distribution functions and thus their formation histories should be as diverse as they appear. In contrast, an alternative scenario rooted in the "nonlinear" nature of the color-to-metallicity transformation finds the various CDFs pointing systematically to a simple picture, i.e., such a high degree of variety stems predominately from only one parameter, the mean metallicity of GCs. The simulated CDFs of GCs aimed to reproduce 67 massive early-type galaxies from the ACS Virgo & Fornax Cluster Survey show that over 70% of the CDFs concur fully with the nonlinearity scenario. We discuss our new findings in terms of early-type galaxy formation in the cluster environment.
We report preliminary results from a radio study of central galaxies in cool and non-cool core clusters. A cooling flow is expected to rapidly form in the center of galaxy clusters unless additional heating mechanisms such as merging with sub clusters are at work. It has been suggested that cool flows can feed the AGN in the central galaxies, increasing their power. On the other hand, the AGN feedback can also affect the surrounding medium, heating back up the gas in the cluster core region. In this study, we investigate the co-evolution of cool flows and the AGN of galaxies located in the cluster center. For this study, we have selected 13 radio bright central galaxies from clusters with a range of cooling time scale. In this work, we present results of our recent observations using the Korean VLBI Network. We discuss the properties of the sample in radio and other wavelengths.
In this paper, we propose a novel image clustering method based on weighted sub-sampling to reduce clustering time and the number of clusters for target detection and tracking. Our proposed method first obtain sub-sampling image with specific weights which is the number of target pixels in sampling region. After performing clustering procedure, the cluster center position is properly obtained using weights of target pixels in the cluster. Therefore, our proposed method can not only reduce clustering time, but also obtain proper cluster center.
Merging galaxy clusters, such as PLCKG287.0+32.9, provide a window into the formation process of the large scale structure of the universe. PLCKG287.0+32.9 is an enormous merging galaxy cluster with mass estimated to be ~10^15 Msun. It hosts a pair of mega-parsec sized radio relics with projected offsets from the X-ray center of approximately 350kpc and 2.7Mpc, suggesting a NW-SE merging scenario with relics originating from two separate passes (Bonafede et al. 2014). A detected radio halo coincides with the center of x-ray emission. We present the motivation for our weak lensing study of the merging galaxy cluster PLCKG287.0+32.9 using recent Subaru optical imaging. We discuss the basics of weak-lensing and the criteria for source selection. In addition, we describe our method of PSF modeling and mass reconstruction.

The charged cluster model states that chemical vapor deposition (CVD) begins with gas phase nucleation of charged clusters followed by cluster deposition on a substrate surface to form a thin film. A two-chambered CVD system, separated by a 1-mm orifice, was used to study gold deposition by thermal evaporation in order to determine if the CCM applies in this case. At a filament temperature of 1523 and 1773 K, the presence of nano-meter sized gold clusters was found to be positive and the cluster size and size distribution increased with increasing temperature. Small clusters were found to be amorphous and they combined with clusters already deposited on a substrate surface to form larger amorphous clusters on the surface. This work revealed that gold thin films deposited on a mica surface are the result of the sticking of 4-10 nm clusters. The topography of these films was similar to those reported previously under similar conditions.

In this paper, we apply cluster analysis to "Okayama parking data" that is one of the spatial point patterns data that includes locations and the fare structure of car parking space in Okayama central area. This study classifies the characteristics of small areas through Okayama parking data as well as visualizes the results of the cluster analysis. We develop web applications that connect the results of a cluster analysis and overlay objects including points of balloons and rectangles of small areas over a map of Okayama central area.
In cluster environments, most of the galaxies are found to be red and dead, but the origin of these passive galaxies is not yet clearly understood. Using a set of cosmological hydrodynamic zoom-in simulations, we study gas depletion process in and outside clusters. Our results are consistent with previous studies showing rapid stripping of a galactic cold gas reservoir during the first infall to the cluster center. Moreover, we found a fraction of galaxies that were already in the gas deficient state before reaching the cluster (i.e., pre-processed galaxies) is non-negligible. These findings lead to the idea that a complete understanding of passive galaxy population in clusters can not be achieved without a detailed understanding of gas stripping process in group size halos prior to the cluster infall.
Root cluster section culture, showing high efficient Protocorm-like body (PLB) formation capacity, were established in Doritaenopsis hybrids. Three types of root were obtained from excised shoots in 1/2MS medium containing different concentrations of NAA; \circled1normal roots, \circled2multiple roots and \circled3abnormal root clusters. Those were placed on 1/2MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/L thidiazuron for PLB regeneration. PLB regeneration rate was greater in root cluster section cultures (77.8%) compare to normal root tip cultures(30%). Number of PLBs regenerated from root cluster sections were counted over 11 per explant (5.3 per normal root tip).High frequency of PLB regeneration was achieved in root cluster section culture. This result can be used as an efficient method for clonal proliferation of Doritaenopsis hybrids.
