  • The purpose of this study is to search 1) Favorite color preference for clothing 2) Concept development for respective color preference concerned with sex, and 3) concept development for clothing clolr and clothing design. The results are as follows. 1. Liked-color preference for clothing color; female children liked pink, and male children liked blue. 2. Disliked-color preference for colthing female children and male children disliked black color. 3. Boyish color; White, Green, Blue, Black. 4. Girlish color; Yellow red, Pink, Red, Pruple, Yellow. 5. Concept development for clothing color and clothing design; Children aknowledged more the colthing color than the colthing design.

Color Preference for Clothing of Korean Adults (한국 성인남녀의 의복 선호색)

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze the color preference for clothing of Korean male and female adults and to provide the useful data for the fashion color planning. The result of this study showed that the preferences in hue and tone are different mainly by season. The most preferred colors in clothing are YR, B and Y. Y is preferred in spring, B and W in summe, YR in fall, Gy and Black in winter. The most preferred tones in clothing are pale tone in spring and summer, dark tone in fall and winter. The color preference for casual wear is more varied than the color preference for formal wear. The tones of low saturation are preferred for formal wear and the tones of high saturation are preferred for casual wear.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between color & clothing color preferences and three personality traits. Personality traits were measured with chung's Personality Scale. The questionare measuring Color & Clothing color preferences consisted of items designed to assess color preference, color repugnance clothing color preferences. These questionaire were administered to 302 senior high school girls in Seoul. Statistical analysis consisted of corelation and chi-square-test. The result were; 1) Activity, stability, sociability was no significant related to color preference. 2) Activity, sociability was positively related to color repugnance in Value but stability was no significant. 3) Sociability and stability was positively related to color preference, but activity and stability was no significant. 4) There was a positive relationship between color preference and clothing color preference. (r=0.8867) 5) The most preferred colors were white, light blue, and light green. The most repugnated colors were light red, dark red purple, and dark yellow. 6) The most preferred clothing colors were yellow, pink, and green in Spring, white and blue in Summer all kinds of colors, colors in Autumn, and Black and Grey in Winter.

  • The purpose of this study were to investigate clothing design preference (style, color, fabric print, kinds of fabrics) & satisfaction with the fit of ready-to-wear clothing for older Men. For this study, the questionnaires were administered to 650 older men in seoul from June to August, 1998. Employing a sample of 504 data were analyzed by mean, frequency and percent. With respect to clothing design preference, they prefer suit the style of outdoor clothing on going-out. On distinguish clothing into formal wear & casual wear, the color preference due to seasons has difference in spring clothing. Regarding the degree of fabric pattern preference, nonpattern single color fabric has occupied in formal wear, pattern in casual wear. Regarding the degree of fabric preference, they take a serious view of shape preservation in formal wear, utility (washing, sweat absorption) in causal wear. Suit has the lowest satisfaction in the fit of ready-to-wear clothing. Sleeve length the lowest in the degree of satisfaction for each part.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the clothing interest, the preference for clothing color, in men of their 20s and 30's. The data were obtained from questionnaires completed by 546 men in their 20's and 30s. The SPSS package was used for data analysis which includs factor analysis, t-test, x²-test, Scheffe test, and Cronbach's α to measure the reliability. This study shows the following results. 1. The interest for clothing color was related to individual factors. (age, marriage status, personality). 2. men in their 20's and 30's preferred neutral color, blue, yellow. 3. Men in their 20s and 30s liked monochromatic match in clothing color. 4. The preference for clothing color were appeared to be influenced by the age, personality, skin color.

The Effects of VMD Components on Consumers' Store Image and Preference - focused on interior color and product volume of clothing shop- (VMD 구성요소가 점포이미지와 선호도에 미치는 영향 -의류매장의 실내색상과 상품수량을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of interior color and product volume of clothing shop on consumer's store image and preference for a clothing shop. The research methodology was a survey questionnaire and the subjects were 516 university students in Daejeon, Korea. The measuring instruments were stimuli and self-administrated questionnaire. The stimuli were 7 pictures of clothing shop including interior color and product volume variables, and the self-administrated questionnaire consisted of semantic differential scales for store image, store preference, and subject's demographic attribution. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, MANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, based on SPSS program The results were as follows: first, in clothing shop's interior colors affecting store image and preference for clothing shop, white color gave a casual, sophisticated, characteristic, and attractive image to the shops, and brown color gave an elegant, sophisticated image, while black color gave a sophisticated, uncomfortable image, and gray color gave a less positive image to them than other colors. Subjects preferred white, brown, and black color in the order. Second, clothing shop's products volume also affected consumers' store image and preference. Its small volume gave a more sophisticated, elegant image than other volume levels, and subjects preferred small and medium volume of clothing products to their large volume. Third, the effects of shop's interior color and clothes' product volume on store image were different depending on subject's sex. The results revealed that clothing shop's interior color and product volume are important VMD components affecting consumer's store image and preference, and consumer's sex has to be considered to understand the effects of VMD components on clothing shop image.

The Image Evaluation of Clothing Color of Korean and American College Students (한국과 미국대학생의 의복색 이미지 평가)

  • The objectives of this study were to examine how image evaluation and preference of women's clothing color vary according to perceiver's culture, gender, and clothing color; to investigate the differences of image evaluation according to body type and the clothing color; and to disclose what image affects to the clothing color preference of Korean and American. Subjects were 388 Korean and 363 American college men and women. The American evaluated the wearer more elegant, feminine, and neater than the Korean did. Clothing color gave significant influence on perception of all image variables. Koreans showed that red and blue color shirts were perceived to be individualistic. Koreans considered blue, indigo, purple, gray, and black were perceived to be less feminine. This means that they evaluated the colors of blue range and low chroma were masculine according to their traditional attitude. Women were more attracted by indigo and purple, while men tended to evaluate yellow as an appealing color. The evaluation of sociability varied depending on the perceiver's culture and clothing colors. The corpulent body type had negative evaluation rather than the ordinary one without the relation with the color of clothing for Koreans and Americans. The evaluation of sociability of Americans had an interaction effect by the body type and clothing color. Attractiveness gave the first significant influences on clothing color preference, and the next came individual(-) and splendid image for Korean men. The individual image gave Korean men to be negative effect. Attractiveness, elegance, and sociable image gave significant influences on clothing color preference in Korean women. For American men, elegance gave the first significant influences on clothing color preference, and the next came sociability and neatness, while elegance was the first and the next came sociability and attractiveness for American women.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of age, physical type and job on preference for color and fabric motifs in men's clothing design. Color preference measures consisted of clothing styles painted in CAD. Preference for fabric motifs was assesed by stripe fabrics in size, width and strength. All of the preference measures were devised specifically for this study. Furthermore, items on Hight and Weight for physical type, age and job of subjects were included I the questionnaire. Data were obtained by self-administered questionnaires form 243 men (25-54 years old) in Seoul. Analysis was by chi-square (X2), frequency, and percentage. The results obtained in this study were as follows : 1. Color preference was not affected by age and physical type, Job was related to coordinate color of men's clothing. 2. Preference for width of striped motifs was affected by age and job. 3. Preference for strength of fabric motifs in men's jacket was affected by physical type.

  • This study is designed to find women's makeup color preferences according to their pursuing clothing image and clothing behavior. Subjects were 515 women. from 18 years to 40 years old, who are interested in color makeup and use various products. The SPSS statistical program was used for analyzing the demonstrative results of questionnaire survey. The results of this study are as follows : 1. According to color makeup preference by the pursuing image in clothing. those groups who want to have conservative and neat image and who prefer feminine and intellectual image showed the preference of brown lipsticks and eye-shadows, while groups who want to have vivid image preferred orange lipsticks and pink eye-shadows. 2. In the case of casuals, all groups preferred pink eye-shadows and lipsticks. While those groups who want to have intellectual image preferred brown lines after pint groups who want to have sexy and vivid image preferred orange and red lipsticks and blue and green eye- shadows. 3. In preference comparison of color makeup by clothing behavior, those groups who attach practicality, symbol for social status. and social acknowledgment preferred red and brown lipsticks, and brown eye-shadows. 4. In the case of wearing casuals, all groups liked pink eye-shadows and lipsticks the best. whereas the group who want to have social acknowledgment Preferred beige lipsticks and brown eye-shadows.

A study on the clothing selection criteria by pursuit of clothing benefit groups and the preference of clothing color by moodstate (의복 추구 혜택 집단별 의복 선택 기준과 기분 상태별 선호 의복색 연구)

  • This study aimed to provide the basic data of the establishment of marketing strategies by dividing consumer groups in accordance with the pursuit of clothing benefit, and then understanding the importance of clothing selection criteria in those groups, whether there are any differences in it between groups, and whether there are any differences in preference of clothing color depending on the mood state of those groups. The scale of this study was comprised of the pursuit of clothing benefit factors, clothing selection criteria factors, and the factors related to preference of clothing color by each mood state. In the results of the analysis, the factor most considered when male and female consumers in 20s~30s purchase clothing was fitting, and followed by convenience, stable shape, condition, design, and others' reaction in order. However, those 'design', 'convenience', 'others' reaction' and 'condition' factors were significantly different between groups. Therefore, the significance of this study is that fashion brands could develop new positioning maps for marketing and promotional strategies based on the pursuit of clothing benefit shown in this study.
