  • In this paper, an active vibration control of a tensioned elastic axially moving string is investigated. The dynamics of the translating string are described by a non-linear partial differential equation coupled with an ordinary differential equation. A time varying control in the form of right boundary transverse motions is proposed in stabilizing the transverse vibrations of the translating continuum. A control law based on Lyapunov's second method is derived. Exponential stability of the closed-loop system is verified. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is shown through simulations.

  • The problem of thermal stability of an exothermic reactive viscous fluid between two parallel walls in the plane Poiseuille and Couette flow configurations is investigated for different thermal boundary conditions. Neglecting reactant consumption, the closed-form solutions obtained from the momentum equation was inserted into the energy equation due to dissipative effect of viscosity. The resulting energy equation was analyzed for criticality using the variational method technique. The problem is characterized by two parameters: the Nusselt number(N) and the dynamic parameter($\Lambda$). We observed that the thermal and dynamical boundary conditions of the wall have led to a significant departure from known results. The influence of the variable pre-exponential factor, due to the numerical exponent m, also give further insight into the behavior of the system and the results expressed graphically and in tabular forms.

  • The fundamental stochastic duel of Williams and Ancker is combined with the probabilistic linear, square and mixed laws of Brown and Smith when the battle time is limited and interfiring times are continuous. The Probability of a given side's winnig or a draw is derived in a recursive equation with Laplace transforms. Examples with negative exponential firing times are given. In linear law an exact closed form solution is obtained, whereas for square and mixed laws only square ($2{\times}2$) duels are considered.

  • This paper introduced a scheme for finding the relationships between the measurements and tracks in multi-target tracking (MTT). We considered the relationships between targets and measurements as MRF and assumed a priori as a Gibbs distribution. An energy function is defined over the measurement space, as accurately as possible so that it may incorporate most of the important natural constraints. To find the minimizer of the energy function, we derived a new equation of closed form.

  • In this paper we apply the martingale approach, which has been widely used in mathematical finance, to investigate the optimal investment problem for an insurer under the criterion of mean-variance. When the risk and security assets are described by the L$\acute{e}$vy processes, the closed form solutions to the maximization problem are obtained. The mean-variance efficient strategies and frontier are also given.

  • Finite element analysis of welding processes, which entail phase evolution, heat transfer and deformation, is considered in this paper. Attention focuses on numerical implementation of the thermo-elastic-plastic constitutive equation proposed by Leblond et al in consideration of the transformation plasticity. Based upon the multiplicative decomposition of deformation gradient, hyperelastic formulation is employed for efficient numerical integration, and the algorithmic consistent moduli for elastic-plastic deformations including transformation plasticity are obtained in the closed form. The convergence behavior of the present implementation is demonstrated via a couple of numerical example.

  • In this paper, we present the analysis of Tree-LDPC codes using EXIT(Extrinsic information transfer) charts methods. Two different EXIT charts schemes are compared. One is based on the closed form equation and the other is based on Monte-Carlo simulation. The thresholds by these two schemes match well with the threshold by DE(density evolution) scheme. Simulation performance is also shown with the obtained thresholds.

  • In the present paper, we consider a kind of generalized hyperbolic geometric flow which has a gradient form. Firstly, we establish the existence and uniqueness for the solution of this flow on an n-dimensional closed Riemannian manifold. Then, we give the evolution of some geometric structures of the manifold along this flow.

  • The burning rate estimation method of solid propellants, based on closed bomb tests, has been introduced. The composition of the combustion gas is determined by using CEA and the Noble-Abel equation of state for high pressure operation conditions. Covolume taking into account the collision among molecules due to the actual volume of the molecule is modeled by LJ potential. A cubic form function is applied to calculate the volume change of propellant grains during combustion. The estimated burning rates of five different grain configuation at high pressure are fairly compared with BRLCB results within the maximum error of 6%.
