  • This study was to determine differences and relations in nursing students' clinical practice stress and clinical competence by gender role identity. The study made a questionnaire survey of 450 nursing students of 2 colleges in J city, Gyeongnam, from June 1st to 30th, 2020. Data from 417 sheets were finally analyzed with descriptive statistics, χ2test, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, correlation and hierarchial regression analysis. The analysis found that most of the participants belonged to undifferentiated type(34.3%) in gender role identity. Clinical competence showed significantly different(F=20.98, p<.001), but clinical practice stress showed no significant difference depending on that identity(F=1.56, p=.199). Clinical competence had positive correlations with the index of masculinity(r=.397, p<.001) or the index of feminity(r=.325, p<.001), but had no with clinical practice stress(r=.061, p=.217). Gender role identity turned out to be a factor that would significantly influence clinical competence(F=6.67, p<.001). These findings suggest that gender role identity of nursing students should be confirmed prior to clinical practice education and, thereon, interventions for clinical competence improvement should be developed.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the factors influencing the stress of the elderly women by various tools and to provide basic data for adaptation to the aging women. For this purpose, stress was measured by stress measuring equipment (HRV) and stress measurement questionnaire (SRI) in 31 elderly women over 60 years old. In summary, the results of this study suggest that the worse the subjective health, and when there is a spouse, it predicts a stress. In order to reduce the stress of elderly women based on these results, physical health management and environmental factors that can enhance the intimacy between husband and wife are also necessary.

The study included 180 nursing students as participants, and data collection was conducted using self-administered questionnaires from April 15 to 26, 2024. The collected data underwent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. The research findings revealed that the sense of humor scored 3.52, stress coping styles scored 3.40, and adaptation to clinical practice scored 3.46. Adaptation to clinical practice according to general characteristics showed statistically significant differences based on major satisfaction (F=29.80, p<.001), clinical practice satisfaction (F=40.46, p<.001), relationships with peers in clinical practice (F=5.05, p<.001), and personality (t=-3.41, p<.05). Adaptation to clinical practice showed statistically significant positive correlations with sense of humor (r=.31, p<.001) and stress coping styles (r=.43, p<.001). The factors influencing adaptation to clinical practice were clinical practice satisfaction(β=.34, p<.001), stress coping styles (β=.29, p<.001), and major satisfaction (β=.23, p<.05), explaining 42% of the total variance.

  • Propose: To identify the effects of job stress for depression in clinical nurses. Method: The subjects were 304 clinical nurses in Busan Metropolitan City. Data was collected by questionnaire surveys using convenience sampling. The instruments used in this study were the short form of the Korean Occupational Stress Scale(KOSS-SF) and the Beck Depression Inventory-Korean Version Standard Ten(K-BDI STEN). Result: After adjusting potential confounders, we found that the group of 50~75% job stress score for interpersonal conflict was more likely to have depression than the group of less than 25%(OR=3.522, 95% CI 1.06~20.25). The group of equal or more than 75% job stress score for job insecurity was more likely to have depression than the groups of less than 25%(OR=9.413, 95% CI 4.00~71.03). The groups of equal or more than 75% and 50~ 75% job stress score for lack of reward was more likely to have depression than the group of less than 25%, respectively(OR=19.302, 95% CI 2.50~244.25; OR=38.201, 95% CI=6.25~344.45). Conclusion: To prevent depression in clinical nurses, we need to intervene job stress for insufficient job control, interpersonal conflict, job insecurity and lack of reward.

  • This study identified the effect of menstrual attitude, life stress and clinical practice stress on premenstrual syndrome of nursing students. Data were analyzed with the SPSS 22.0 program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and simple linear regression. Premenstrual syndrome was significantly negative correlated with menstrual attitude (r=.28, p=.004), positive correlated with life stress (r=.31, p=.001) and clinical practice stress (r=.29, p=.003). The factors that influence premenstrual syndrome were regular exercise (β=.-.18, p=.006) and dysmenorrhea (β=.51, p=.000), which explained 38.0%.

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of Yoga exercise as one way of the nursing intervention on stress and health status. This study was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group pretest and posttest design. The study subjects were clinical nurses at K University hospital, in J city. Fifty one nurses were selected with 26 to a experimental group and 25 to a control group. The study data were collected from November, 2002 to January, 2003. During this period Yoga exercise was given to experimental group three times per week(one hour every time) for twelve weeks and no program was given to control group. The degree of general stress, job stress, health perception and health status was measured before and after experiment. The data were analyzed using SAS 8.1 program to obtain chi-square, paired, unpaired t-test. The results of this study are as follows. 1. After the experiment, the degree of general stress increased (t=-3.61, p=0.001) in experimental group, but in control group. There was significant difference between two groups (t=-2.10, p=0.041). However there was no significant difference in job stress between two groups and in each group (p=0.001), 2. After the experiment, the degree of health perception in experimental group increased (t=2.13, p=0.043) in control group. There was no significant difference between two groups. Health status in experimental group increased (t=3.14, 0.004) but in control group after the experiment. There was no significant difference between two groups. From the results, we are convinced that Yoga exercise is the nursing intervention that could decrease stress and promote health status in clinical nurses. Therefore Yoga exercise could be largely applied as one way of health care for nurses.

As a result of the research, it was found that the psychological well-being increased as the problem faced, the problem was solved directly, and the less stress was applied. Results of the regression analysis showed problem solving coping(${\beta}=.446$), avoidance coping (${\beta}=-.301$), and stress(${\beta}=-.281$), it were explained 51.0%. Therefore, nursing college students should be able to cultivate psychological well-being through a strategy of managing stress to actively ask for solutions to problems through self or social support system.

  • The purposes of this study were to identify the stress level of nursing students prior to clinical training and to examine the effects of aromatherapy on stress, stress perception, and mood during clinical practice. This study was a randomized control trial using a pre-post test conducted from May-July 2016. A total of 41 junior nursing students were recruited. The experimental group (n=22) underwent aroma inhalation using a necklace containing lavender essential oil and a control group (n=19) used a normal saline necklace. There were significant improvements in stress (p=.023) and mood levels in the experimental group (p=.006). The difference in stress perception between the experimental and control groups was not statistically significant (p=.382). Aroma therapy might be useful for decreasing stress and improving their positive mood during clinical practice for nursing students.
