  • An example-based dialogue system tries to utilize many pairs which are stored in a dialogue database. The most important part of the example-based dialogue system is to find the most similar utterance to user's input utterance. Modality, which is characterized as conveying the speaker's involvement in the propositional content of a given utterance, is one of the core sentence features. For example, the sentence "I want to go to school." has a modality of hope. In this paper, we have proposed a modality classification system which can predict sentence modality in order to improve the performance of example-based dialogue systems. We also define a modality tag set for a dialogue system, and validate this tag set using a rule-based modality classification system. Experimental results show that our modality tag set and modality classification system improve the performance of an example-based dialogue system.

  • Gene expression data is obtained through many stages of an experiment and errors produced during the process may cause missing values. Due to the distinctness of the data so called 'small n large p', genes have to be selected for statistical analysis, like classification analysis. For this reason, imputation and gene selection are important in a microarray data analysis. In the literature, imputation, gene selection and classification analysis have been studied respectively. However, imputation, gene selection and classification analysis are sequential processing. For this aspect, we compare the performance of classification methods after imputation and gene selection methods are applied to microarray data. Numerical simulations are carried out to evaluate the classification methods that use various combinations of the imputation and gene selection methods.

  • Insufficient sleep time and bad sleep quality causes many illnesses and it's research became more and more important. The most common method for measuring sleep quality is the polysomnography(PSG). The PSG is a test used to diagnose sleep disorders. The most common PSG data is obtained from the examiner, which attaches several sensors on a body and takes sleep overnight. However, most of the sleep stage classification in PSG are low accuracy of the classification. In this paper, we have studied algorithm for sleep level classification based on machine learning which can replace PSG. EEG, EOG, and EMG channel signals are studied and tested by using CNN algorithm. In order to compensate the performance, a mixed model using both CNN and DNN models is designed and tested for performance.

  • This paper proposes a method to improve pathological and normal voice classification performance by combining multiple features such as auditory-based and higher-order features. Their performances are measured by Gaussian mixture models (GMMs) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). The combination of multiple features proposed by the frame-based LDA method is shown to be an effective method for pathological and normal voice classification, with a 87.0% classification rate. This is a noticeable improvement of 17.72% compared to the MFCC-based GMM algorithm in terms of error reduction.

  • In this paper, we propose a new idea to evaluate the prediction accuracy of user's preference generated by memory-based collaborative filtering algorithm before prediction process in the recommender system. Our analysis results show the possibility of a pre-evaluation before the prediction process of users' preference of item's transaction on the web. Classification functions proposed in this study generate a user's rating pattern under certain conditions. In this research, we test whether classification functions select users who have lower prediction or higher prediction performance under collaborative filtering recommendation approach. The statistical test results will be based on the differences of the prediction accuracy of each user group which are classified by classification functions using the generative probability of specific rating. The characteristics of rating patterns of classified users will also be presented.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm for EEG pattern classification using the Multi-template method, which is a kind of speaker adaptation method for speech signal processing. 10-channel EEG signals are collected in various environments. The linear prediction coefficients of the EEGs are extracted as the feature parameter of human sensibility. The human sensibility classification algorithm is developed using neural networks. Using EEGs of comfortable or uncomfortable seats, the proposed algorithm showed about 75% of classification performance in subject-independent test. In the tests using EEG signals according to room temperature and humidity variations, the proposed algorithm showed good performance in tracking of pleasantness changes and the subject-independent tests produced similar performances with subject-dependent ones.

  • Three classification algorithms are tested using musical instruments. Several classification algorithms are introduced and among them, Bayes rule, NN and k-NN performances evaluated. ZCR, mean, variance and average peak level feature vectors are extracted from instruments sample file and used as data set to classification system. Used musical instruments are Violin, baroque violin and baroque cello. Results of experiment show that the performance of NN algorithm excels other algorithms in musical instruments classification.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy system that adaptively classifies subimages to four classes according to image activity distribution. In adaptive transform image coding, subimage classification improves the compression performance by assigning different bit maps to different classes. A conventional classification method sorts subimages by their AC energy and divides them to classes with equal number of subimages. The fuzzy system provides more flexible classification to natural images with various distribution of image details than does the conventional method. Clustering of training data in the input-output product space generated the fuzzy rules for subimage classification. The fuzzy system of small number of fuzzy rules successfully classified subimages to improve the compression performance of the transform image coding without sorting of AC energies.

  • In this paper, we propose a gait type classification method based on pressure sensor which reflects various terrain and velocity variations. In order to obtain stable gait classification performance, we divide the whole gait data into several steps by detecting the swing phase, and normalize each step. Then, we extract robust features for both topographic variation and speed variation by using the Null-LDA(Null-Space Linear Discriminant Analysis) method. The experimental results show that the proposed method gives a good performance of gait type classification even though there is a change in the gait velocity and the terrain.

  • Silicon wafer is one of main materials in solar cell. Micro-cracks in silicon wafer are one of reasons to decrease efficiency of energy transformation. They couldn't be observed by human eye. Also, their shape is not only various but also complicated. Accordingly, their shape classification is absolutely needed for manufacturing process quality and its feedback. The performance of typical classification techniques which is principal component analysis(PCA), neural network, fusion model to integrate PCA with neural network, and support vector machine(SVM), are evaluated using pattern features of micro-cracks. As a result, it has been confirmed that the SVM gives good results in micro-crack classification.
