  • To characterize airborne particulate carbon and its temporal variation in the heavily industrialized metropolitan city, Seoul in South Korea, aerosol sampling was performed from 1986 to 1996. Correlation coefficients of elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC) with mass concentration of fine particles ($\underline{\leq}$2.1 ${\mu}m$) are 0.73 and 0.51, respectively. EC concentrations of the fine particle mode are 10.1, 5.9, 4.5, and 7.4 ${\mu}g\;m^{-3}$ in winter, spring, summer, and autumn, respectively. On the other hand, OC concentration shows maximum value in winter and followed by autumn, summer, and spring. A seasonal peak in the ratio of OC to EC in fine particles was observed during the summer photochemical season from June to August. Concentrations of EC and OC in Asian dust storm events are generally higher than in non- Asian dust storm events except in 1990. The difference of EC concentrations between Asian dust storm periods and non-Asian dust storm periods are much larger than those of OC concentrations. There are slight increases of EC concentration between 1987 and 1990 and a gradual decrease between 1990 and 1996.

  • Shipyards are potential environments for using IoT services, sensor networks, and delay tolerant networks. Simulations of those services and networks strongly rely on human mobility models. Results obtained with an unrealistic model may not reflect the true performance of applications, protocols, and algorithms in a shipyard. A lot of synthetic models for human movements have been studied but most of them are generic and focus on the daily movements of humans on city scales. Nevertheless, workers in shipyards have unique movement characteristics such as movement speed, pause time, and attractions places. For instance, workers usually move to some places, where they work, and rarely move to other places in the factory. Movement characteristics of workers not only depend on workers but also on tasks, which they do. For instance, workers, who paint ships, have similar movement speed and pause time. Hence, in this paper, human movements in shipyards are studied. We propose a new human mobility model called the human mobility mode in shipyards (MIS). In MIS, workers are classified into multiple types. Movement characteristics of a worker are similar to other workers in the same type. Based on the visiting probability, workers have some places, where they frequently visits, and some places, where they rarely visit. We analyze real mobility traces and studie to achieve human movement characteristics from real traces. The results show that MIS provides a well-match to the movement characteristic from real traces.

  • Yarn dyed wastewater has to be treated prior to disposal into the water bodies due to its high content of harmful organic compounds. In this study, the performance of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) removal and kinetic rate constant are investigated via hybrid electrocoagulation-Fenton in a continuous system using wastewater discharged from a yarn dyed industry in Surabaya city. The wastewater was treated in a batch mode using electrocoagulation to reduce Total Suspended Solid, followed by Fenton method in a continuous system to reduce COD level. Various Fe(II) feeding modes, molar ratio of $Fe(II)/H_2O_2$, initial pH of wastewater, and flow rate are used in this study. The results show that COD removal process obeys a pseudo-first order kinetics. At $Fe(II)/H_2O_2$ ratio of 1:10, initial wastewater pH of 3.0, and feed flow rate of 30 mL/min, the COD removal efficiency was observed to be 80%, and the kinetic rate constant is $0.07046min^{-1}$. The chemical cost for the treatment estimated to be IDR 160 per L wastewater, which is cheaper than the previously reported batch system of IDR 256/L.

  • Base on emission factors derived from National Institute of Environmental Research, Particulate matter from combined cycle power plants (CCPPs) has been estimated to be a important source of $PM_{10}$. Generally there is no serious emission of particulate matter in CCPPs. because the fuel of them is natural gas. But emission gas after long shut down season has very high dust content. Therefore $PM_{10}$ emission rate is dependent on its operation mode. In this study, particulate dispersion study for new city near CCPPs complex has performed using CALPUFF model for three case. $PM_{10}$ concentration has big difference between normal operation and 2 case start-up condition after long shutdown. In normal operating conditions, daily $0.32{\sim}0.50{\mu}g/m^3$ influence on of the surrounding area. But when 1~2 aerobic high concentration discharged conditions, average concentration is higher about $9.2{\sim}34.1{\mu}g/m^3$ than normal operating conditions.

  • Biodiesel fuel is already remarkable alternative fuel in many countries. So, many studies are performed on the environmental or economic effects as well as the characteristics of diesel engine fueled biodiesel in combustion and emission. In this study, an CRDI diesel engine used to commercial vehicle was fueled with diesel fuel and 20% biodiesel blended fuel (BDF 20%) with city mode in excess of 300 hours. Engine dynamometer testing was completed at regularly scheduled intervals to monitor the engine performance and exhaust emissions. The engine performance and exhaust emissions were sampled at 1 hour interval for analysis. To check the engine parts (valve and injector), the engine was inspected after test. It was concluded that there were no unusual deteriorations of the engine, or any unusual changes in engine power and exhaust emissions in spite of operation of 300 hours with BDF 20%.

  • In general, odorant was added to fuel gases, such as LPG, LNG and city gas, to prevent gas poisoning, ignition, explosion, or other accident caused by fuel gases, and to enable immediate and easy detection of fuel-gas leakage by emitting an offensive smell. This study describes a study on the exhaust emissions characteristics and fuel economy of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vehicle using LPG fuel with new sulfur free odorant. New sulfur free odorant was added to LPG to reduce sulfur content of the LPG. Its performance and exhaust emission were compared to those of LPG with sulfur containing odorant (EM, ethyl mercaptan). Engine performance using LPG with sulfur free odorant was similar to that with sulfur-containing odorant. Exhaust emissions from the LPG vehicle with LPG including sulfur free odorant were also similar to those with LPG including sulfur containing odorant in the FTP 75 and NEDC mode. There experimental results suggest that the sulfur free odorant may substitute for the sulfur containing odorant in LPG fuel.

  • The Hengda Group super high-rise building in Jinan City uses the frame-core tube structural system. With a height of 238.3 m, it is above the B-level height limit of 150 m for buildings within 7-magnitude seismic fortification zones. Therefore, it is necessary to apply performance-based seismic design to this super high-rise building. In this study, response spectrum analysis and comparative analysis of the structure are conducted using two software applications. Moreover, elastic time-history analysis, seismic analysis under an intermediate earthquake, and elastic-plastic time-history analysis under rare earthquakes are performed. Based on the analysis results, corresponding strengthening measures are implemented at weaker structural locations, such as corners, wall ends connected to framed girders, and coupling beams connected to framed girders. The failure mode and failure zone of major stress components of the structure under rare earthquakes are analysed. The conclusions to this research demonstrate that weaker locations and important parts of the structure satisfy the requirements for elastic-plastic deformation in the event of rare earthquakes.

  • In this paper, the along-wind, across-wind as well as torsional dynamic wind loads on three kinds of lattice tower models are investigated using the base balance technique in a boundary layer wind tunnel. The models were specially designed, and their fundamental frequencies in the directions of the three principal axes are still in the frequency range of the spectra of wind loads on lattice towers. In order to clear contaminations to the spectra of wind loads induced by model resonance, the generalized force spectra of the first mode of the models in along-wind, across-wind and torsional directions were derived based on measured base moments of the models. The RMS generalized force coefficients are also obtained by removing the contributions of model resonance. Finally, the characteristics of the 3-D dynamic wind loads, especially those of the across-wind dynamic loads, on the three kinds of lattice towers are presented and discussed.

  • The Bimodal Tram being developed in Korea is a new transit system that provides both benefits of rail and bus systems in terms of accessibility and fixed time schedule. This study accomplished a feasibility study for introducing the Bimodal Tram system by considering the travel demand and existing transit system at a city level based on its population. The feasibility of Bimodal Tram system varies depending on cities with respect to demographic scale, mode shares, and operational distances. The strategies introduced here will help any cities where transport agencies are trying to introduce the Bimodal Tram as a new transit system.
