Canberra, the capital city of Australia, has been known as an example of the international Garden City movement, which started by an Englishman Ebenezer Howard in the late 19^th Century. As a new capital site, Canberra was designed by an American architect Walter Burley Griffin, the winner of the world-wide competition for a federal capital in 1912. However, a closer look at the early history of Canberra would reveal that the popular understanding of her as a Garden City was somewhat exaggerated and distorted. Griffin's ideas of the new capital strongly suggest that he was influenced by City Beautiful, an American urban planning trend. Also, Griffin's original plan for Canberra was never fully appreciated nor realized, as many objections and difficulties arisen. Furthermore, Australian understanding of 'Garden City' evolved to more inclusive and overlapping idea of greener and less condensed towns in general.

최근 목포시 인근에 남악신도시가 건설중이고, 목포-고하 대교가 목포내항을 가로질러 건설될 계획이다. 목포항의 미관을 아름답게 조성하기 위하여 미항목포가꾸기 운동에 대한 시민의 관심과 참여가 요구된다. 미항목포개발마스터플랜의 개요를 살펴보고, 시민의견에 관한 설문조사를 통하여 미항목포가꾸기 운동에 대한 시민의 참여 및 의식 수준을 확인하였으며, 설문조사 결과에 기초하여 미항목포가꾸기 사업의 성공조건을 제시하였다. 지역시민들은 대체로 현재의 도시환경에 대하여 만족하지 않기 때문에, 도시의 환경과 미관을 목포 및 주변 섬들의 자연적·사회적·환경적 특성에 어울리게 조성하길 바라고 있다. 친절 청결·질서와 같은 기초적 시민문화의식을 함양하기 위하여 다양한 교육프로그램의 개발과 시행이 필요하다. 지자체가 시민의견을 수집하고 반영하여 목포를 세계적 미항으로 꾸준히 가꾸는 경우에는 시민들이 시민실천계획에 적극적으로 참여함으로써 미항목포가꾸기 운동과 사업은 성공할 수 있다.

Through a case study on The making of communities driven by citizen autonomy in Cheongju, The study is to figure out how it proceeded and how many were finished by project. These projects completed in 2007 and 2008 for "Campaign of making beautiful communities" were driven by people at community center in Cheongju city. This paper consisted of research on establishment and operation of community center, the developing process of "Campaign of making beautiful communities" and an analysis of each project. This study was based on the interviews of the official of Cheongju city for having ideas about establishment and operation of community center and the developing process of "Campaign of making beautiful communities" and also visits each center for investigating actual programs accomplished.

To introduce the typical water caves of the northeastern district in China, the Shenyang Water Cave located in the Shenyang city and the Benxi Water Cave located in the Benxi city of the Liaoning province of the northeastern part of China are presented. The caves are very big and long, and the water flows in the cave to drive the motor boat for tourist watching the beautiful sight in the caves through the year. The geological information and the beautiful internal sight of views in the caves are introduced.

The purpose of this study is that investigated the characteristics of integral planning related factors using the history and culture of Mojiko. It is a small city that has been urbanized after the opening of the port for logistics transportation in the modern period of Japan. As the function of the logistics city, which is the factor of the expansion of the town, declined, Mojiko applied the retro concept to the harbor which has lost its popularity due to the regional characteristics of the city to increase and revitalize local visits. Mojiko has steadily promoted the retro style of landscape and town development over 30 years, focusing on 18 Historical buildings and modern infrastructure. We analyzed characteristics of integrated urban planning include the regulation, landscape institution. Moreover, we suggest the result of the designation process of a core scenery maintenance district and the components of the plan after the designation analysis and provide essential data for revitalizing the field based on the historic city for the cultural establishment and beautiful town in the future. And deliver vital data to reviving the area based on the historical city culture establishment and beautiful town in the future.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze image factors of places located in natural and humanistically superior geographical locations. It aims to analyze image recognition and spatiality of scenically historical Sahmyook University, located northeast of Gangneung, through standardization. Method: The analysis method of landscape is composed of data investigation and research, and elements of how students, faculty, and visitors recognize a place's beautiful image will be examined. Result: A phenomenological approach was applied to how the images of beautiful place were set by FGI group meeting, and how such factors affect beautiful place's perception from the user's point of view. When looking at comprehensive ranking of image factors in recognition of beautiful landscapes, factors corresponding to forest landscapes appear at the top rank. In determining factors for its recognition, shared space with natural elements such as water, trees, flowers, etc. has been analyzed to have the biggest influence. Among factors corresponding to urban landscape, 'streets and pedestrian paths' is of medium importance and are recognized for it is artificial structure coexisting with natural elements shared with humans. The image corresponding to 'city area' and 'architecture' was analyzed to have insignificant influence on beautiful places' image recognition for artificial element was prioritized.

To make more beautiful and exciting scenery of a city, the design of private buildings has to be controlled in a way to improve the public amenity by the proper design of buildings ensuring views to natural assets in the city. And it is important to provide an urban landscape solution, while solving the afflictions of architects between their dream in individual architecture and the significances of Urban landcape as a whole. This research is based on the survey of the experts and public officers in the field of Urban landcape planning and administration in Gwang-ju City and Chonnam Province in Korea. The search reveals the following fact. Comparing the fact that some of foreign countries have proper systems of planning, regulations, guidelines, and design awards for the improvement of Urban landcape long time ago, the systems of Urban landcape planning and related administration in Korea is still in a primitive stage, due to the lack of the consideration of local characteristics and resources, variety of solutions, and setting of goals and objectives. Consequently, public enlightening of the importance of Urban landcape and the development of relevant contents in Urban landcape planning and administration are mostly required, to build up the system that can allow people to live in beautiful and good scenery of a city.

We all know how beautiful our wild and it's importance to our living planet Earth. But did you realise the speed at which man himself is damaging it's unique natural habitat. We are well on our way to destroy our forests, plants, wetlands. We are polluting our oceans and seas. This way, we're driving numerous animal species, plant species and many others into extinction. Everyone should be aware of the importance of our natural environment. We live in the period of echocide. Why we need nature to survive and how we can deal with the environmental problems we face. This paper has the purpose to reform city's environment. Because, Metropolis and megalopolis are the principal cause of environmental disruption. To reform the city is needed to consider digital technology in our age. In the face of economic and cultural globalization, many have argued that we live an increasingly placeless world. However, as a growing number of cities participate and compete in key marketplaces of advanced capitalism, the spectacle of the city is more than ever a significant medium of communication in its own right. In doing so, this work is focused specifically on the dimension of city's media environment. To that end, the paper examined U-City and U-Eco city. In this study, we will introduce the study on model of U-Eco City as one way for the eco-freindly future city.

This paper is to explore a new planning paradigm for urban landscape-not a new paradigm for urban landscape planning- in the light of environmental aesthetics. This is an endeavor to construct an alternative to the philosophical absence in the landscape profession. The landscape has been conceived of visual -oriented urban scene, and this notion is one of consequences of subject-object dualism in Western modernity project. In contrast with this convention, the authors consider urban landscape as the aesthetic field in which an experience of urban landscape actually works in human ordinary life and experience. To acquire an aestetic experience in this aesthetic field, we need to replace the doctrine of disinterestedness with engagement and contemplation with participation. This concept of participatory engagement with landscape can be translated in specific and concrete ways into urban landscape planning, replacing the traditional panoramic landscape with engaged landscape. The authors approach the urban landscape from the vantage point of an aesthetics of engagement by developing the four environmental situations : the sailing ship, the circus, the cathedral, and the sunset. They may serve as useful guides in cultivating and beautiful urban landscape to replace the forces of vulgarity and monotony that depress the modern city. Chungju city with beautiful natural environments and various cultural resources recently meets the new economic revival caused by opening of Jungbu Naeruk express way and invitation of the enterprise city. Now, the out door lightings come to the major issues to improve Chungju night image and to exploit new scenic spots. this study aims to develop the lighting plan for the jung-won bridge as a representative scenic spot in Chungju city. For the study, the field surveys and computer simulations were performed. As results, the lighting concepts such as entrance and apple images and alternative lighting plans were suggested.
