To improve the land use of urban, Construction of the circular steel column is required recently. The circular steel columns have a advantage for improving a load carrying rapacity as wall as reducing a effective section area. However, the circular steel columns under service load, such as earthquake, shows a tendency to cause local buckling and large deformation. To prevent these phenomena, use of longitudinal stiffeners is considered. The application of longitudinal stiffeners at the circular steel columns is expected to increase a load carrying capacity, buckling strength and seismic performance of circular steel column. However, increasing the loading carving rapacity of buckling which constructed the longitudinal stiffeners, was not investigated yet. Therefore it needs study on effect of longitudinal stiffener in pipe-section steel pier. In this study, the load rallying capacity of buckling of steel pier was investigated by using elastic-plastic finite element analysis considered geometrical and material non-linearity. Also, this study investigated the effect of longitudinal stiffeners on loading carrying capacity of buckling and the relationship between width and thickness of longitudinal stiffeners. And also, a Influence of longitudinal stiffeners on seismic performance of circular steel columns was investigated by numerical analysis

The objective of this study is to measure contra-retractive adhesion and lift resistance acting on the rim section of a circular wheel for analyses of their effects on the dynamic load. A circular iron wheel was used for experiments. A part of the wheel rim was cut off, and transducers which can measure normal and tangential forces were installed in this section. Experiments were conducted on a laboratory soil bin which was filled with clayey soil under wet and dry conditions. The mechanism of generating contra -retractive adhesion on a circular wheel were analyzed by the experiments and motion analyses of the wheel. Effects of lift resistance on dynamic load were analyzed by measured forces under wet soil conditions in comparison in comparison with those under dry conditions. The showed that a part of the lift resistance were transferred to the dynamic load. These results may become basic data and ideas for analyses of tractor dynamic under wet soil conditions.
Circular cylindrical tubes are widely used in structures such as vehicles and aircraft structures, where light weight and high compressive/bending/torsional load carrying capacity are required. When axially compressed, relatively thick circular cylindrical tubes deform in a so-called ring mode. Each ring develops and completely collapses one by one until the entire length of the tube collapses. During the collapse process the tube absorbs a large amount of energy. Like honey-comb structures, circular cylindrical tubes are light weighted, are capable of high axial compressive load, and absorb a large amount of energy before being completely collapsed. In this report, the subject of axial plastic buckling of circular cylindrical tubes was reviewed first. Then, the axial collapse process of the tubes in a so-called ring mode was studied both experimentally and numerically. In the experiment, steel tubes were axially compressed slowly until they were completely collapsed. Fixed boundary condition was provided. Numerical study involves axisymmetric, elastic-plastic, large deflection, self-contact mechanisms. The measured and calculated results were presented and compared with each other. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the load carrying capacity and the energy absorbing capacity of the tube.

The solution of two-dimensional deflection of circular wavy reinforcing fiber elastics was obtained for one end clamped boundary under concentrated load condition. The fiber was regarded as a linear elastic material. Wavy shape was described as a combination of half-circular arc smoothly connected each other with constant curvature of all the same magnitude and alternative sign. Also load direction was taken into account. As a result, the solution was expressed in terms of a series of elliptic integrals. These elliptic integrals had two different transformed parameters involved with load value and initial radius of curvature. While we found the exact solutions and expressed them in terms of elliptic integrals, the recursive ignition formulae about the displacement and arc length at each segment of circular section were obtained. Algorithm of determining unknown parameters was established and the profile curve of deflected beam was shown in comparison with initial shape.
A circular tube undergoes bucking behavior when it is subjected to axial loading. An upper bound analysis can be an attractive approach to predict the buckling load and energy absorption efficiently. The upper bound analysis obtains the load or energy absorption by means of assumption of the kinematically admissible velocity fields. In order to obtain an accurate solution, kinematically admissible velocity fields should be defined by considering many factors such as geometrical parameters, dynamic effect, etc. In this study, experiments and finite element analyses are carried out for circular tubes with various dimensions and loading conditions. As a result, the kinematically admissible velocity field is newly proposed in order to consider various dimensions and the strain rate effect of material. The upper bound analysis with the suggested velocity field accurately estimates the mean load and energy absorption obtained from results of experiment and finite element analysis.

In this study, we propose a non-contact circular eddy current load brake using permanent magnet that can be applied to the rehabilitation exercise equipment. The circular eddy current load brake is manufactured and is evaluated for performance. This has the torque value of 49% compared to a "ㄷ" type eddy current load brake having a fixed load. And we confirmed that load is regulated due to the conductivity and air gap. Proposed load brake is adjustable according to the user's condition and can be applied to the equipment having advantages such as miniaturization and cost reduction.

Prestressing tendons in the wall of circular storage tank were investigated from the viewpoint of equivalent load method. Special attention was paid to the effectiveness of eccentricities of the circumferential and vertical tendons. Some aspects which are frequently overlooked or misinterpreted in the analysis of vertical tendons are discussed. It is expected that the equivalent load method can be effectively used to simplify the analysis of tendons in the circular wall thus to minimize the errors.

Model tests were performed to examine the mechanical behavior of steel circular caisson by horizontal load. It was generally found that displacements and bottom pressure of the caisson model were increased rapidly at the local plastic load. The maximum displacement was measured at the loading point, whereas the less displacement was measured at the upper part of the caisson model. The bottom pressure was getting higher, as it was nearer the loading side. Furthermore, the increase ratio of the bottom pressure was higher as the load was increased.
This paper describes a simple method for evaluating the design wind loads for the structural frames of circular flat roofs with long spans. The dynamic response of several roof models were numerically analyzed in the time domain as well as in the frequency domain by using wind pressure data obtained from a wind tunnel experiment. The instantaneous displacement and bending moment of the roof were computed, and the maximum load effects were evaluated. The results indicate that the wind-induced oscillation of the roof is generally dominated by the first mode and the gust effect factor approach can be applied to the evaluation of the maximum load effects. That is, the design wind load can be represented by the time-averaged wind pressure multiplied by the gust effect factor for the first mode. Based on the experimental results for the first modal force, an empirical formula for the gust effect factor is provided as a function of the geometric and structural parameters of the roof and the turbulence intensity of the approach flow. The equivalent design pressure coefficients, which reproduce the maximum load effects, are also discussed. A simplified model of the pressure coefficient distribution is presented.
In this experimental and numerical study, the effect of plate thickness, the diameter of circular cutout, the distance between circular cutouts and rowing orientation angle effect (${\theta}$) on the buckling load of E-glass/vinylester pultruded composite beams with single and double circular cutouts, were investigated. The composite beam having 2, 4, and 6 mm thicknesses was produced as [Mat/${\theta}$ /Mat/${\theta}$ /Mat] by using pultrusion technique. Seven different fiber angles as $0^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $75^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ were chosen for investigation of rowing orientation angle. The distances between each circular cutout were selected as 15, 30, 45, 60, and 75 mm in the case of double circular cutouts. The diameters of circular cutouts were chosen as 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mm to investigate the effect of cutout size. The experimental buckling loads were compared with the results calculated from the numerical analysis. ANSYS 11 commercial software was used for numerical study. A good agreement was obtained between numerical and experimental results.
