Objectives This study was aimed to evaluate the effects of Chuna manual therapy (CMT) for the treatment of cerebral palsy. Methods The randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the treatment of CMT for cerebral palsy in children were selected among the literature published until January 2021 in seven databases. The quality of the literature was evaluated using the Cochrane's risk of bias tool, and RevMan 5.3 was used for the synthesis of results. Results Total 801 pediatric patient with cerebral palsy incontinence were finally selected from twelve RCTs. The total effective rate of the combined treatment general rehabilitation and CMT is statistically significantly higher (P<0.0001) than that of general rehabilitation alone. Conclusions This study suggests that general rehabilitation combined with CMT for cerebral palsy in children might be more effective in improving symptoms than general rehabilitation alone. As the number and quality of the literature included in the meta-analysis was insufficient, high-quality clinical studies on CMT for cerebral palsy would be required.

This study analyzed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and case studies investigating Chuna manual therapy and variations of this term, for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. On June $15^{th}$, 2019, 6 online databases were used to retrieve studies. A total of 527 articles were retrieved, and 14 RCTs and 20 case studies were selected for review. Typically, the frequency of Chuna therapy was 1-2 times/week. The most common period of treatment was 12 months in RCTs and 3-6 months in case studies. Cobb's angle was the most frequent evaluation index used (11 RCTs and 20 case studies). In control groups, brace treatment was used in 8 RCTs. In 6 RCTs and 20 case studies, Cobb's angle significantly decreased after Chuna therapy, and in 4 RCTs, Chuna therapy was as effective as brace treatment, with no significant difference between groups. Adverse events were not reported except for minor reactions in only 3 case studies. This review suggested that Chuna therapy for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis was more advantageous than and as effective as brace treatment in most cases, although the risk of bias in 13 RCTs was unclear.

This study aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of facial chuna manual therapy in treating the sequelae of Bell's palsy. Four patients were treated with facial chuna manual therapy once a week for 4 weeks, consisting of facial muscle massage, acupoint pressure, contracture chuna, and synkinesis chuna. The changes in symptoms (contracture and sysnkinesis) were measured using the Sunnybrook Facial Grading Scale (SFGS), Synkinesis Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ), Facial Disability Index (FDI), Contracture/Synkinesis scale using a facial scanning system, Numeric Rating scale (NRS) for synkinesis or contracture, and Was It Worth It questionnaire. After treatments, SFGS, Contracture/Synkinesis scale, and NRS for synkinesis or contracture showed significant improvements. SFGS increased in three cases from 39~76 to 52~85 score. SAQ decreased in two cases from 53.33~57.78 to 40.00~55.56. FDI increased in three cases from 120~128 to 138~145. These results suggest that Korean medicine treatment, including facial chuna manual therapy can be effective in improving the sequelae of Bell's palsy.

Objectives : To evaluate the evidence supporting the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy for functional dyspepsia. Methods : We conducted search across the 3 electronic databases (Pubmed, CAJ and Oasis) to find all of randomized controlled clinical trials(RCTs) that used Chuna manual therapy as a treatment for functional dyspepsia. The methodological quality of each RCT was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results : Thirteen RCTs met our inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis showed positive results for the use of Chuna manual therapy combined with medication treatments in terms of the efficacy rate when compared to medication treatments alone. Positive results were also obtained, in terms of the efficacy rate, when comparing Chuna manual therapy combined with medication plus specific electromagnetic therapy to medication treatments alone. Conclusions : Our systematic review found encouraging but limited evidence of Chuna manual therapy for functional dyspepsia. However, to obtain stronger evidence without the drawbacks of trial design and the quality of studies, we recommend sham-controlled RCTs or comparative effectiveness research to test the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to review the randomized clinical trials of Chuna manual therapy for cervicogenic headache and provide a evidence for the efficacy of Chuna manual therapy. Methods : We searched randomized clinical trials that performed Chuna manual therapy for cervical headache up to Feb. 2017 in 6 databases. Randomized clinical trials were selected according to the inclusion criteria and the data were extracted and analyzed. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Criteria. Results : 16 RCTs met the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis of 13 RCTs showed favorable results for the use of chuna manual therapy compared to drug, physical treatment. Conclusions : In 16 RCTs, we found that Chuna manual therapy was effective in cervicogenic headache. However, all RCTs are exposed to a number of bias risks. Therefore, well designed clinical trial would be needed to raise the evidence level of Chuna manual therapy.

본 논문은 좌하지비증(左下肢痺症)및 보행장애와 간헐적인 하지통증을 주소로 하며 Meyerding 분류 상 grade II에 해당하는 퇴행성 척추전방전위증 환자에 대한 증례로 기존에 많이 시행되어 오던 치료방법인 침구치료 및 약물치료에 추나치료를 추가 시행하여 통증 호전 및 한 번에 이동 가능한 보행 거리의 증가와 영상의학적 변화를 보였다. 향후 척추전방전위증 환자의 한방적 치료에 대한 보다 다양한 연구와 임상적 고찰이 이루어져야 한다고 사료된다.

Objectives This study examined the trends in domestic and international research on the treatment of sarcopenia and analyzed the effectiveness of the treatment. Based on the results, we suggest directions for future Korean medicine research on sarcopenia. Methods The study was conducted using Arksey and O'Malley's scoping review methodology. It included three international databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library) and five domestic databases (Korean studies Information Service System, Korean Medical database, Oriental Medicine Advanced Search Integrated System, Research Information Sharing Service, ScienceON) were used. Literatures published until April 30, 2023, including the contents of 'sarcopenia' and Korean Medicine treatment', were searched. Results A total of 45 studies were included in the analysis. The number of studies on Korean medicine treatments for sarcopenia is steadily increasing, with the majority of studies coming from Asian countries. Of the 45 studies, 30 were conducted in the field of medicine, and the study design was analyzed into 10 clinical studies and 35 non-clinical studies. Among the 10 clinical studies, the most common treatment interventions were herbs (n=4), followed by Daoist exercises (n=3). The most common diagnostic criteria used in clinical studies were those published by the Asian working group for sarcopenia, and various physical examinations and laboratory tests were used as outcome measures. Conclusions The future direction of Korean medicine research on sarcopenia should be to expand the number of clinical studies applying Korean medicine treatment interventions.

Objectives : This case report describes the management of five patients suffering from nonstructural scoliosis with lumbar herniated intervertebral disc all treated with complex Korean medicine treatment. Methods : Five patients were hospitalized and treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, cupping, and Chuna manual therapy. Patients were assessed for Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), EuroQol-FiveDimensions (EQ-5D), and Cobb's angle. Results : In all patients, NRS, ODI, and Cobb's angle decreased, while the EQ-5D score increased. Conclusions : As seen in these five cases, complex Korean medicine treatment with Chuna manual therapy has effects on the management of nonstructural scoliosis.

Objectives : This research is aimed to confirm the treating patients with herniated lumbar disc using Chuna treatment. Methods : Out of patients who were confirmed to have a herniated lumbar disc by MRI among the patients in oriental medical hospital of Kyungwon University from July 2005 to Dec 2006, we dived 15 people was treated common treatment, 15 people was treated both common treatment and Chuna treatment. We measured Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and symptom grade before and after treatment in each groups. Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS program. Results : The result of the Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and symptom grade before and after treatment between two group, shows that the improvement of Back pain and Sciatica in common treatment with Chuna treatment group is more effective than that in only common treatment group.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the conservative treatment for supraspinatus tendinitis with kyphotic cervical curvature patient. Methods : We used chuna, Herbal medication, Acupuncture, Bee Venom Acupuncture, Physical Therapy for this patient. And we measured of VAS score, ROM and Extent of the subjective symptoms of shoulder pain to evaluate treatment effects. Result : Patient's shoulder pain and cervical curvature has improved. VAS score and Extent of the subjective symptoms of shoulder pain score were also decreased.
