Objectives This study aimed to conduct a systematic review evaluating the effectiveness of muscle energy technique(MET) in temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD). Methods Searches were conducted in 11 electronic databases until October 2023. Randomized controlled trials(RCT) comparing the effect of MET for TMD were included. All studies were evaluated using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. Results Nine documents that fulfilled all the criteria were obtained for analysis. All studies showed some concerns in high risk of bias, but showed a significant improvement in pain and maximum mouth opening compared to baseline of MET or control group. MET was not better than extracorporeal shock wave therapy or myofascial release in some outcomes. Conclusions MET seems to be an effective treatment for TMD in some regards, however, can be considered as an adjunct therapy which has weak evidence. Further studies are required due to the inconclusive data and poor homogeneity found in this review.

The butterfly vertebra is a rare congenital anomaly of the spine, which arises from an asymmetric fusion defect in the embryonic vertebral column. This report delineates an integrative Korean medicine treatment administered to two patients who presented with low back pain associated with asymptomatic butterfly vertebrae. The patients received comprehensive treatment comprising acupuncture, Chuna therapy, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine, and cupping therapy. The efficacy of the treatments was assessed utilizing diverse parameters, including a numerical rating scale, range of motion of the lumbar spine, Oswestry Disability Index, EuroQoL 5-Dimension 5-Level, and patient global impression of change. After the treatment, a notable improvement was noted in the evaluated indicators. These positive outcomes suggest that integrative Korean medicine treatment is suitable for patients experiencing low back pain associated with asymptomatic butterfly vertebrae.

Background: Korean medicine treatment was assessed in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) according to subgroups of: sex, age, cause of knee OA, body mass index, hospitalization period, history, OA compartment, phenotype, and comorbidity. Methods: A retrospective review was performed of 122 inpatients who were admitted to the Hospital of Korean Medicine for Korean medicine treatment of knee pain, and were diagnosed with knee OA based on magnetic resonance imaging findings. Analysis of patient subgroups (sex, age, cause of knee OA, body mass index, hospitalization period, history, OA compartment, phenotype, and comorbidity) was carried out and treatments including acupuncture, cupping, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine, chuna therapy, medicinal steaming therapy, manual therapy, and extracorporeal shock wave therapy were listed. The numeric rating scale (NRS), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), and 5-level EuroQol- 5 Dimension (EQ-5D-5L) scores were measured before and after treatment to assess the effects of treatment on pain and quality of life. Results: Seventeen males and 105 females were included in this study. Most patients were in their 60s. In the total study population, NRS, WOMAC, and EQ-5D-5L scores were improved statistically significant when comparing before and after treatment. The NRS and WOMAC scores improved statistically significant in the medial, patellofemoral, medial + patellofemoral, medial + lateral + patellofemoral compartment. Conclusion: Korean medicine treatment significantly reduced pain, stiffness, and physical dysfunction, and improved the quality of life of patients with knee OA, suggesting that it may be an effective alternative to the current conservative treatments.

Objectives : Acupuncture therapy is known as a effective method to CVA with paralysis. To make clear about effectiveness of acupuncture affecting to active and static postural adaptation for the patient with hemiparesis, we studied whether acupuncture changed ability of maintenance with one leg standing posture, and character of gait such as gait velocity, cadence, stride length, step length and base of support. Methods : This clinical study has been carried out with 10 cases of CVA patient with hemiparesis. We treated patients with acupuncture for 4 weeks, estimated each paralytic leg and well leg before 1st treatment and after last treatment, and compared the change of one leg with the other. To estimate the change of ability of static postural adaptation, we checked the time of duration with one leg standing posture. And about active postural adaptation, we used temporal distance gait analysis with Ink-Foot-Print method. Results and Conclusions : In static postural adaptation, paralytic leg significantly improved the duration with one leg posture. And In active postural adaptation with gait analysis, paralytic leg showed significant improvement in stride length and step length. Base of support and cadence were also significantly improved.

Objective : Acupuncture therapy is known as a effective method to pain control including elbow area pain. To make clear about effectiveness of acupuncture affecting to recovery of grip power for the patient with elbow area pain, we compare the patients recieved acupuncture treatment to people with elbow pain unrecieved acupuncture treatment. Material and Methods : This clinical study has been carried out with 30 cases of patients with elbow area pain. 20 patients divides into two groups were treated by acupuncture in MPS with elbow area. Two groups were radial area pain group and ulnar area pain group. The other 10 people with elbow area pain working a resturant in Ilsan were no treatment. The study was applicated and estimated grip power before 1 st treatment and after each treatment for 4 days. Results : 1. In the radial area pain group, the acupuncture treatment is more effective than no treatment (p<0.007). 2. In the ulnar area group, the acupuncture treatment is more effective than no treatment (p<0.037). 3. The effectiveness of acupunctrue treatment is no differnce between radial area pain and ulnar area pain(P<0.529) 4. In the elbow area pain group, the acupuncture treatment is more effective than no treatment (p<0.001). Conclusion : These results shows that acupuncture treatment is effective in elbow area pain.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to report Bell's palsy patients with postauricular pain treated by Calculus Bovis Fel Ursi Moschus(BUM) Pharmacopuncture. Methods : The 6 patients were treated by the Korean medica treatment including herbal medication, dry needle acupuncture and physical therapy. We performed BUM Pharmacopuncture in Yepung for the treatment of postauricular pain once or twice. We have evaluated the effect of BUM Pharmacopuncture by Visual Analog Scale(VAS). Results : After BUM Pharmacopuncture for the treatment of postauricular pain, VAS were decreased in all cases. Conclusions : It was suggested that BUM Pharmacopuncture might have effect on control of auricular pain in Bell's palsy. Further, systemic studies will be needed to evaluate obvious effect of BUM pharmacopuncture on postauricular pain of Bell's palsy.

Objectives : We already know the importance of stability and flexibility on the vertebra. It is important to keep the lumbar lordosis for stability and flexibility. We hope to reduce lower back pain and low extremity pain by changing the angle of the Lumbar Kyphosis through conservative treatment. We have evaluated the effect of conservative treatment with Saamchimbeop Pejeonggyeok by experimenting one patient suffering from Lumbar Kyphosis with lower back pain and low extremity pain. Methods : One patients were diagnosed as Lumbar Kyphosis through X-ray examination. We used conservative treatment, especially Pejeonggyeok Treatment to the patients and measured NRS((Numerical Rating Scale), rating scale for low back pain, low extremity pain and SLR(Straight Leg Raising) test and walking time in whole term of admission, and we also measured flexion, extension angle and lumbar kyphosis using lumbar x-ray lateral view after diganosing by Lumbar Kyphosis. Results and Conclusions : After treating conservative therapy, We figured out that the patient were on the mend, and we found out the angle change in flexion, extension and lumbar Kyphosis. These results suggest that Pejeonggyeok Treatment were effective to improved Lumbar Kyphosis and reduced the low back pain.

Objective : Poly neuropathy is disease that reveals musle relaxation or sensory disorder, and Myopathy is disease that reveals musle weakness, wasting, pain. These diseases occur in the lower or upper limbs. This is the clinical report about Poly neuropathy or Myopathy estimated patients. Method : Patients were treated by acupuncture, herb medicine, bee venom herbal-acupuncture, moxibustion. We evaluated the improvement of symptoms with ROM(Range of Motion) and MCR(Medical Research Council) standard. Result : Symptoms that patients have at admission improved and disappered gradually with oriental medicine therapy. Observing the change of ROM and MCR standard, they indicated us improvement of disease. Conclusion : We achived a desirable result from treatment of peripheral neuropathy or myopathy estimated patients. However, further studies are required to prove the effect of oriental medicine treatment.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to analyze changes in the gait pattern of a unilateral knee pain patient after treatment with Korean Medicine therapy. Methods : We conducted gait analysis 4 times over 11 days to analyze changes in gait parameters using gait analysis systems. Results : Velocity, cadence, step length, and stride length were all increased. On the collateral side, both stance phase and double support (%) decreased. These results are similar to those of hemiplegic patients with improvement patterns. Conclusions : Gait analysis could be used as a good evaluation tool for tracking improvements in knee pain.

Objects : The purpose of this study is find out significant (clinical) effect of applying acupuncture on $zh{\grave{a}}h{\grave{a}}i$(K6, 照海) of ${\bar{U}m-kyo-maek$(陰?脈) and $sh{\bar{e}}nm{\grave{a}}i$(B62, 申?) of Yang-kyo-maek(陽?脈) to a patient of circadian sleep disorder. Methods : We apply acupuncture on $zh{\grave{a}}h{\grave{a}}i$(K6, 照海) and $sh{\bar{e}}nm{\grave{a}}i$(B62, 申?) to a patient of circadian sleep disorder during 2 weeks. We check sleeping time day and night during 14 days. Acupuncture on $zh{\grave{a}}h{\grave{a}}i$(K6, 照海) and $sh{\bar{e}}nm{\grave{a}}i$(B62, 申?) has significant effect to circadian sleep disorder patient. Results : Acupuncture on $zh{\grave{a}}h{\grave{a}}i$(K6, 照海) and $sh{\bar{e}}nm{\grave{a}}i$(B62, 申?) has significant effect to circadian sleep disorder patient. Conclusions : 1. The physio-pathologic phenomenon of sleeping is relative to ${\bar{U}m-kyo-maek$(陰?脈) and Yang-kyo-maek(陽?脈) 2. Acupuncture therapy on $zh{\grave{a}}h{\grave{a}}i$(K6, 照海) and $sh{\bar{e}}nm{\grave{a}}i$(B62, 申?) has significant effect to circadian sleep disorder.
