This study is arguing about the development of professionalism of children's librarians. For this, I investigated the conditions of operation in the course of library and information science and continuing education related to the training of children's librarians. Furthermore, I analyzed their problems. After this, I suggested the methods for the development of professionalism of children's librarians.

The purpose of this study was to improve an undergraduate curricular of library and information science for children's librarians in public libraries. For the purpose, this study examined current curricular provided for children's librarianship. A questionnaire survey of the educational background of children's librarian was also conducted. Based on the results, this study proposed an undergraduate curriculum model to raise children's librarians.

The purpose of this study is to develop the public library programs that support the needs of multicultural families by examining the details of their information needs, focusing on the children's education issues of multicultural families. For this purpose, the data on experiences and needs related to the education of multicultural families' children were collected through in-depth interviews with married immigrant women. The study found the following six types of children's education-related needs of multicultural families: 1) Lack of understanding about the educational system and situation of Korean schools, 2) Their children's needs for language and learning 3) Their children's Bilingual education 4) Educational information for the role of parents, 5) Prejudice and discrimination against their children at school 6) Supporting library awareness and experience of mulitcultural families. Based on these needs, the following programs were suggested: 1) Parent role program for children's education, 2) Children's learning program, 3) Children's language education program, 4) Multicultural understanding education, 5) Library user education and guidance.

This study aims to set a cooperative network system for children's service in public libraries in Korea centering on the National Library for Children and Young Adults. The purpose of the study is to foster effective online and offline cooperation among public libraries through the National Library for Children and Young Adults and improve children's library service. Based on the survey results and face-to-face interviews the study suggests various ways to strengthen cooperative network system and public library council for children's service. First is to empower the council and to that end, to expand the cooperative network as well as to clearly set its role. Secondly it advises to capitalize from council's homepage service and adapt social-networking tools.

This study analyzed the effect and meaning of reading program for alienated children. To accomplish this, this study collected its data through surveys and observations with 1,643 children that participated in the reading program by Library of National Library for Children and Young Adults and through surveys and interviews with librarians, instructors and representatives of agencies that related to the program. The results show that there were improvements in children's reading interests, reading attitude and affect in the program. And children's experiences and interests in libraries were increased after the program. Children evaluated affirmatively the program and children's demand for the program was increased.

This study examined the development of the children's reading movement, focusing on the children's library establishment movement and reading guidance theory published in the Dong-A Ilbo and Chosun Ilbo in the 1920s and 30s. This paper analyzed the following contents. First, this study explored the background meaning that emphasized children's reading in the 1920s and 30s and discussions on the establishment of a children's library. In the process, this study examined the relationship between the national movement during the Japanese colonial period and children's education, and the meaning of reading at the time. Second, in this study, the development of children's library movement that was actively developed at the time and a methodology of reading education presented through the reading section were reviewed. It was this period that everyone was more interested in children's reading education than ever before. In addition, as the children's library movement was actively developed, a number of "Sonyeon Mungo" was established in various places. Meanwhile, in the reading section of the newspaper, a number of teaching methods for reading at school and at home were published, and examples were presented through advanced overseas reading education model. From the results of this analysis, it can be seen that the 1920s and 30s were the period when the children's reading movement was actively developed.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of OPAC displays and search interfaces for children. The OPACS of Cheongju Miracle Library, Nowon Children's Library in Seoul. Los Angeles Public Library in the U.S.A. and HelMet Library System in Finland are examined on the basis of 'OPAC Display Guidelines(Draft)' published by IFLA and Nielsen's 'User Interface Design Heuristics'. Discussed are such topics as the features of basic and detailed search screens. the brief display of search results. the arrangement and full display of bibliographic records, and the displays for zero-results and large retrieval sets. The OPAC displays of Cheongju Miracle Library and Nowon Children' Library are not particularly designed to serve children which are their primary users. The OPAC displays for children of LAPL and HelMet Library System are rather simplified and customized to represent specifically the needs and information seeking behavior of children.

This article presents the role of children's librarian in the age of information. Preparing the 21st century, there should have been to identify the humanities of health, independent, creative, and moral fact with educating children in future Korea. Children's library should service all the children to improve the information skill and technology, to creat a whole person with high order intellectual thinking skill for the consumer, the voter and the leader of the next generation. It has been identified that the children's librarian should playas a mediator of literacy and culture of children, a creating counselor of personality, a negotiator of recoginating all knowledge, and a leader of the information skill or communication skill in the children education at the 21st century.

Children's literature has a significant impact on children's intelligence and emotional development. The interest in children's literature is increasingly growing with the expectation of the award winning books and the educational values of children's books. Although the interest has brought about a quantitative increase in the domestic children's books, it has difficulty selecting high-quality children's books among various books. In such an environment, the Children's Literature Award will provide an authoritative source of choice, which will help guide the selection of quality books to those who want to read children's books. In addition to this trend, the library should check the status of winning works and incorporate them into new collection development policies. The purpose of this study is to present the direction of the library book development policy of the public library. For this purpose, 10 public libraries in Seoul, Korea were selected and analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively through the collection status of the children's literature winning books, loan status, turnover, Bonn's use Factor, and Trueswell's 80/20 rule. Based on the results of this analysis, we would like to suggest some issues to be reflected in library development policy of the future.

This Study analyzes the present's children library movement. For this, this research deals with 'Library Movement of Miracle' by Citizen Action for Reading Culture. 'Mini-Library Making Movement in Bucheon' and 'Children Mini-Library Movement' by a variety of Nongovernmental organizations. The writer looks into contents, characteristics, meanings and limitations of these Movements. In conclusion, the writer suggests the direction of children library movement in the future.
