제주도 전통 산육속(産育俗)의 전승 (Heritage of Traditional Childbirth and Childcare on Jeju)

  • The characteristics of traditional childbirth and childcare custom on Jeju were studied by interviews of 134 elder women over 60. This established the nature of traditional custom of prenatal care, delivery, child rearing, and traditional ceremonies for baby as well as popular beliefs. The survey of current childbirth and childcare practices included 168 parents of kindergarteners. Results showed that traditional childbirth and childcare custom of Jeju is based in self-reliance, effectiveness, labor, and popular beliefs and that the heritage consisting of traditional postpartum foods, bathing of the newborn baby, use of a cradle, shamanistic prescriptions, and acupuncture is prevalent today.

Predicting Role Performance Variables for Childcare Teachers

  • This study determined the factors that contributed to role performance by childcare teachers in Korea. Questionnaire data were gathered from 425 childcare teachers. Statistical analyses consisted of t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ and hierarchical regression analysis. There were no differences in the role performance of childcare teachers by age and experience. Differences were evident by education level and workplace type. Role performance was most affected by the internal-external control followed by emotional intelligence. The findings of this study are pertinent to childcare policy makers.

21인 미만 보육시설에 대한 자체평가와 전문가평가의 차이 분석 (Difference Between Self-Evaluation and Professional Evaluation in Child Care Centers with Less than 21 Children)

  • This study intended to provide basic materials for establishing a diversity of plans for assisting childcare centers, by examining differences between self-evaluation and professional evaluation in childcare centers with less than 21 children. Data were collected from 7 childcare centers to measure evaluation in five categories of accreditation. Significant differences were found between self-evaluation and professional evaluation in "child care curriculum" and in "interaction between teachers and children." These results point up the handicap of heavy dependence on self-evaluation as it leads to self-assistance, with limited access to new ideas. On the other hand, "circuit assistance" where a consortium of 2~3 different childcare centers advise and assist each other could effectively stimulate a more professional outlook.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the activities of people who provided childcare based on their perspectives and situations, and suggest strategies to improve the quality of care. This study collected data through in-depth interviews and analyzed the data using Gee's discourse analysis method. The participants were 13 people who provided childcare, and criticized the low wages and unfair treatment. The results of this study recommended three strategies to improve the quality of care: stable and reasonable wages, improvement in treatment and status, and a system of communication among people who were related to childcare. Compared to previous research, this study fundamentally questioned the quality of care and investigated the answer to improving the quality of care.

  • This study investigated working mothers' attitudes toward maternal employment and beliefs regarding childcare quality according to the childcare centers' operating modalities and hours. Participants were 261 mothers sending their children to full day, nighttime, or 24-hour childcare centers. We conducted the data analysis two-way ANOVA using SPSS. The results revealed significant differences among the groups in these working mothers' attitudes toward maternal employment and their beliefs regarding childcare quality and childcare centers' operating modalities and hours.

  • Purpose: This study is to suggest a direction for comprehensive planning of educational environment in which children's cognitive development and emotional needs are achieved in childcare facilities. The importance of educational environment in childcare facilities has increased since it was discovered that high quality educational environment can not be guaranteed in current childcare facilities while the number of women participating in labor force, hence the number of children spending most of their time in these facilities is rapidly increasing. Methods: Correlation analysis on Reggio Emilia Approach to education environment and Max Luscher's psychological healing theory, and case study. Results: The result of the correlation analysis, the 4 key elements of educational environment and the 4 emotional status have significant relationship. Based on the elements of educational environment in Reggio Emilia Approach, case studies were pursued in 3 different childcare facilities in Korea. Implications: Evaluation of these case studies addresses the important elements to be considered in comprehensive planning of the educational environment in childcare facilities.

어린이집 교사의 배려적 사고와 의사소통능력 간의 관계 연구 (A Study on the Relationship between Childcare Center Teachers' Caring Thinking and Communication Skills)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between caring thinking and communication skills of childcare center teachers, and the effect of caring thinking on communication skills. Methods: The subjects of this study were 152 teachers working at childcare centers in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. The research tool used was a self-reporting questionnaire in order to examine caring thinking and the communication skills of those teachers. For the data analysis, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used. Results: First, there were significant differences in caring thinking and communication skills according to the age and academic background of the teachers. Second, there was a significant positive correlation between caring thinking and the communication skills of the teachers. Third, responsibility, respect, and a non-directive attitude among the sub-factors of the teachers had a significant impact on communication skills. Conclusion/Implications: In this study, it was found that caring thinking of the teachers was one of the variables that improved communication skills. These results suggest that there is a need to provide various programs and support for enhancing caring thinking as one of the ways to develop the communication skills of childcare center teachers.

보육교사의 효능감과 교사역할수행과의 관계 (The relationship between efficacy belief and role performance of childcare teachers)

  • The goal of this study is to examine the relationship between efficacy belief and role performance of childcare teachers, and also to utilize the results as the basic data for teacher education. The subjects were 205 teachers at 48 childcare centers located in Jeonlabuk-do area. The instruments employed included efficacy belief, teachers' role performance, experiences, and age. The data were analyzed by t-test, Pearson correlation, and Regression Analysis. The results of this study are as follows: First, the role of child carer was the vest performance through childcare teachers' role. Second, the role of instructor, counselor, researcher, and others was significantly different among the types of childcare institution. Third, the social position of ability and personal teaching efficacy belief were correlated positively with teachers' experience. The activeness, the social position of ability, general teaching efficacy belief, personal teaching efficacy belief, and the role of child carer, instructor, counselor, researcher, and others were correlated positively with teachers' age. Fourth, the role of child carer, instructor, counselor, researcher, and others was correlated positively with the activeness and the social position of ability, whereas it was correlated negatively with failure anxiety. Lastly, the activeness was the most powerful variable influencing teachers' role performance.

어린이집 교사의 유아코딩교육에 대한 인식과 자질에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Recognition and Qualities of Early Childhood Coding Education in Childcare Center Teachers)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the recognition and qualities of early childhood coding education in childcare center teachers. Methods: 158 childcare center teachers responded to 56 questions on a questionnaire extracted and revised from previous research. Frequency analysis and one-way ANOVA were applied for the data analysis. Results: Many teachers agreed that the software education policy was timely appropriate. Most of them needed the education in order to improve children's creativity and problem solving ability, and answered that it is appropriate to start the education at age 5. Most of them recognized that small group and free choice activities, play activities linked with daily life topics and coding programs by the childcare center teachers were desirable as educational methods. Provision of educational HW/SW environment was a relatively important element for effective implementation of the education. The coding educational qualities perceived by the teachers were not high, and were related to the age of the children they were in charge of and their computer literacy. Conclusion/Implications: The recognition of childcare center teachers was relatively positive, but it is necessary to educate the teachers to improve their recognition and qualities of the education in consideration of teachers' variables.

어린이집 교사의 개인변인과 기관변인에 따른 직업행복감 연구 (A Study on Childcare Teacher's Career Happiness according to Personal and Organizational Variables)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the condition of career happiness according to personal and organizational variables of childcare teachers. Methods: For this purpose, a total of 1,035 teachers were surveyed. The validity of the career happiness survey tool was examined through previous research, expert review, and factor analysis. Results: The results of the study are as follows. The individual variables influencing career happiness of childcare teachers were mainly age, and there was a difference in the career happiness of teachers over 40 years old and teachers under 29 years old. Second, the teachers at home daycare centers showed a high level of interpersonal relationships and working hours. The teachers at workplace daycare centers have a good balance between work and life, and teachers at corporate group daycare centers have a high sense of happiness about income. The childcare teacher's career happiness was generally higher than infant teachers, and the support of the assistant teacher had an effect on the career Happiness of the teachers. Conclusion/Implications: The results suggest that separate teacher support is needed to increase the career happiness of teachers according to their age and institutional variables.
