The purpose of this study was to examine the experiences of teachers during the development and performance of a nutrition education program based on collaboration between the school organization and local community, as the experiences of teachers who participate in a nutrition education program might be one of major factors to determine the success or failure of their performance. It's basic goal is give some suggestions on school nutrition education and to explore how to assist teachers to ensure their successful performance of a nutrition education program. As a result of analyzing the collected data, the experiences that the teachers had in the program planning stage were subcategorized into two groups: 'finding hope amid complaints' and 'building a learning community'. The experiences that the teachers had in the acting stage were subcategorized ino two groups as well: 'regulating, equalizing and forming a new schema' and 'building stepping stones'. The experiences that they had in the evaluation stage were also subcategorized into two groups: 'finding it rewarding and thankful to teach' and 'new challenge'. The findings of the study are expected to provide essential information on how to assist teachers to offer effective and successful nutrition education.
This research is about the effects of job stress and depression on burnout. One hundred seventy nine Kindergarten school teachers in Kyounggi Incheon province participated in this research. They answered the questionaires about job stress, depression and burnout. Average, standard deviation, correlation analysis, simple period analysis and statistical considerations were used. Four meaningful conclusions were found. First, factors which indicates nursery school teachers' work stress have meaningful relations with depression and burnout. As nursery school teachers' work stress goes up, they were more depressed, and their burnout decreases. Second, factors which indicates nursery school teachers' work stress have considerable effect on the work performance. Third, Kindergarten school teachers' burnout is directly and mutually influenced by the job stress and depression. Therefore, Effort to lesson burnout is needed to decrease not only job stress but also depression.
This study focused on the relationships among teachers'playfulness, teachers'positive play beliefs, teaching efficacy on play and teacher's strategies of problem behavior guidance, and especially the mediating effects of teaching efficacy on children's play. Subjects were 151 early childhood teachers in Seoul and Chungcheungnam-do. The collected data were analyzed using simple regression, hierarchical multiple regression and the Sobel test. The main results of this study were as follows. First, teachers' playfulness and teachers'positive play beliefs had a positive influence on their proactive, positive reactive strategies of problem behaviors. On the other hand, teachers' positive play beliefs had a negative influence on their negative reactive strategies of problem behaviors. Second, teachers' playfulness and teachers'positive play beliefs had a positive influence on their teaching efficacy on play. Finally, the effects of teachers' playfulness on their proactive, positive reactive strategies of problem behaviors of preschoolers were totally mediated by their teaching efficacy on play.
Purpose: Adequate nutrition is to be provided for normal growth and development during early childhood. Currently, childcare teachers provide lunch to most children in Korea. The purpose of this study was to investigate the portion size provided by teachers and examine the effect of education on food serving size. Methods: The subjects were childcare teachers (n = 120) in charge of children aged 3-5 years at a daycare center in Hanam-si. The survey was conducted through questionnaires which included questions on the general characteristics of the teachers, their nutritional education status, and the source of nutrition information. In addition, the portion sizes of items on the menu currently provided to children were measured and the data were analyzed. To assess the effectiveness of education in determining serving size, the subjects were randomly equally divided into two groups. In the first group (n = 60) theoretical education on nutrition and serving sizes was given, whereas in the second (n = 60), practical education on these topics was provided. Results: The difference between the actual portion size of rice and the serving size announced on the menu was observed to decrease along with the increase in the experience of the teacher, although the differences in the main dish and kimchi were higher. The gap between the serving size mentioned in the menu and the portion size distributed widened as the age of the teachers increased. Notably, the difference between the portion size and the serving size of food decreased after both practical and theoretical education. Furthermore, the effect of education on the serving size of the main dishes (p < 0.001), side dishes (p < 0.01), and kimchi (p < 0.01) was observed to be greater in the practical education group than in the theoretical education group. Conclusion: Regular education should be provided to teachers on the serving sizes mentioned in the menu, as the quantity of food served depends on the experience and age of teachers. In the case of rice, theoretical education alone sufficed to ensure a proper serving size. However, hands-on training on the main and side dishes, and kimchi would be much more helpful.
This study used the data from the 10th, 13th, and 16th child supplementary surveys of the Korea Welfare Panel to confirm the causal changes between social relationships, academic achievement, and school adjustment from elementary school to middle school and high school. The results of this study can confirm the effect of social relationships in childhood and adolescence on academic achievement and school adaptation, and furthermore, it is judged that it can be used as information to help healthy development of children and adolescents.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the perception and practice of young children's health, which is emphasized in the stories of early childhood teachers. To collect data, telephone interviews were conducted with 15 teachers of kindergartens and daycare centers in Daejeon and Chungnam The collected data was analyzed by text network analysis. The research results are as follows. First, the participants observed the health of young children when they went to school, and contacted parents in case of abnormal signs. Second, the participants considered it important to understand the physical condition of children, proper nutrition intake, and manage health problems according to the characteristics of institutions where many people live together. Third, in relation to the management of infectious diseases, the participants were practicing to separate the child with symptoms from others, conduct disinfection and quarantine, and contact the parentst. Finally, the participants recognized that they should be educated related to safety in preparation for emergency, familiarize themselves with manuals in emergency situations, and know first aid methods according to the situation.
This study investigated the current status and needs for nutrition education to help reduce children's sugars intake at the Center for Children's Foodservice Management (CCFM, n=115), and Child Care Facilities (CCF, n=646) through an online survey conducted from October $5^{th}$ to $30^{th}$ 2015. A total of 14.8% of CCFM respondents and 31.9% of CCF respondents provided nutrition education on sugars intake to young children as a main topic (p<0.001). A higher percentage (CCFM 47.8%: CCF 42.4%) delivered nutrition education on sugars intake to young children as a sub-component (p<0.001). Over 90% of the CCFM and CCF participants agreed on the necessity of providing nutrition education on sugars intake to children. The most common reasons given for delivering nutrition education on children's sugar intake were "there are many more urgent nutrition education topics" for CCFM, and "insufficient nutrition education information and materials" for CCF. The percentage of nutrition education on children's sugar intake provided to the children's parents was low showing about 20% in the both groups. The percentage of CCFM participants providing nutrition, education on children's sugar intake to the teachers in CCF was also low, showing about 14.8%; however, 68.0% of the CCF participants wanted to received teacher's education on guiding children's sugar intake. Regarding ideas about a nutrition education program on children's sugar intake for young children, most respondents in both groups answered "sugar intake and dental cavities or obesity" for appropriate education contents, "story telling or puppet show" for appropriate education methods, and "dietitian from CCFM and class teacher together" for appropriate educator. For appropriate education time, there was a significantl difference between the CCFM responses (average 2.7 times) and the CCF responses (average 4 times). Based on the above results, we found that implementing nutrition education on children's sugar intake at the CCFM and CCF, was low; however, awareness of the need for nutrition education on children's sugar intake and the program development and supply was very high. Also, the opinions of CCFM and CCF participants about a nutrition education program on children's sugar intake for young children can provide foundation data to develop and implement the CCFM-based nutrition education program.

This study examined the oral health knowledge of childcare teachers and their awareness of the prevention effects against dental caries. The subjects in this study were 433 childcare teachers in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Busan and South Gyeongsang Province, on whom a survey was conducted for five months, beginning in March, 2013. Hospitals (56.6%) were the most common route by which the childcare teachers acquired oral health knowledge. Regarding the distribution of the correct answers on oral health knowledge, every teacher gave the correct answer to the item "When a tooth comes out, it should be kept in milk and then be brought to a dental clinic," and the smallest number of them (35.1%) gave the correct answer to the item "When a tooth comes out, it should be washed with water." Concerning the level of oral health knowledge, the respondents, who worked in Busan and South Gyeongsang Province (p<0.001), who worked in childcare centers with more children (p<0.001), who were younger (p<0.001), and who were junior college graduates (p=0.002) had better oral health knowledge. In regard to the awareness of the prevention effects against dental caries, the respondents who were older (p<0.001) and who were married (p=0.002) were more aware of the prevention effects. According to position and career, teachers who were assistant principals (p=0.023) and had worked for 10 years or more (p=0.009) were more aware of the effects. Therefore, child care teachers should acquire accurate knowledge to improve the oral health of children, and regular training programs for age and education are needed.
The purpose of this study is to clarify what teachers interaction is who try to develop their infants, by examining the intention of beginning the interaction between teachers and their infants, while playing freely at a child care center. The author used a qualitative research method. The subjects of this study are nine infants and three teachers. The author videotaped all the session focusing on the interactions between teachers and their infants. The author observed all the sessions for three months. The author also interviewed the teachers. She also collected the manual of the target daycare centers, its study plans, its observation logs, and the observation logs of the infants' activities and analyzed them. The intention of infants' interaction with their teachers is to know how to play by using some toys. A second intention is to see the contents of the picture book related to the daily routine. A third intention is to satisfy emotional needs. The intention of teachers interaction with their infants while playing freely is to help explore things and try to play. Another intention is to make a transition from teacher-centered play to infant-centered one. A third intention is to pacify infants expressing thoughts by crying. A future research which will increase the quality of the interactions and will be helpful for the development of infants and will focus on infants will be needed.
The purpose of this study was to obtain basic information for novice teachers' adjustment. The data from five novice teachers were collected by in-depth interviews of each subject, as well as reviewing a memo diary, journal and class diary. The results indicated that the novice teachers' experiences were categorized into difficulties in social relationships, heavy workload, stress related to making mistakes, obtaining support and assistance, adequate understanding of their field of work and so on. The model theory for their process of adjustment was found by grounded theory approach. The causal conditions include mistakes in performance of work and immaturity of managing social relationships. The contexts include age of the children, work conditions(i.e. time and space), amount of workload, unfamiliarity of new work assignments, personalities of colleagues, and high frequency of meeting parents of children. The intervening conditions are composed of a guidance program for novice teachers, support from colleagues, work rewards, and the personalities of novice teachers. The novice teacher use three strategies: trying to ignore, sharing difficulties and accessing support from friends or family, as well as willful efforts to transfer negative emotions into positive ones. The consequences of the strategies include: successful career progression, survival, and desire for leaving the field of work.
