The Effects of Children's Metastrategic Activities on Strategies to Control Variables at a Scientific Reasoning Task

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of metastrategic exercise on a scientific reasoning strategy to control variables, and investigate the developmental patterns in the strategy usage within a given period. Two groups composed of 90 fifth grade students engaged in a scientific reasoning task over six daily sessions. Additionally, one group engaged in metastrategic exercise on fictional students' strategies of controlling variables on the task, while the other spent equivalent time on an unrelated task. Based upon results of the study, the following conclusions can be drawn. First, the metacognitive exercise on the strategy to control variables has positive and long-standing effects on the strategy performance at the reasoning task. The exercise also takes effect of near-transfer. Taking into consideration only about sixty minutes of metastrategic practice, the results provide the validity of the activity in order to develop children's reasoning strategies. Second, in a scientific reasoning task, each child seems to go through one out of two developmental patterns in their usage of reasoning strategies: gradual change or fundamental change. Considering the ratio of pattern of fundamental change between the two groups, it is clear that the metacognitive exercise influences the developmental pattern of strategy usage.

청소년의 가족식사와 혼밥 비교분석: 청소년의 시간활용과 가족특성을 중심으로 (Analyzing adolescent family meal vs. alone meal: Focusing on adolescent time use and family characteristics)

  • Objectives: This study aim to determine adolescent meal time, which provides the important context of parent-child sharing time. We divided mealtime into family meal and alone meal, and analyzed the time/space context of each meal time as well as the social determinations. Method: We employed adolescents age 10-18 who live with married patents and attends school at the present (n=5,128) from the original data of Korean Time Use Survey. Results: More adolescent were engaged in family meal rather than eating alone in daily bases. However, the trend show difference by day of week and academic grade; family meal are more prevalent in weekends rather than weekdays. As adolescent reaches high school age, the proportion of eating alone beats the proportion of family meal time. Most of the meal occur at home. Having meal outside was relatively scares, especially on weekdays. Tobit and logistic analysis reveal that, on weekday meal, less school hours, more time spent at the private academy, having family leisure event, and long mother's housework hours were positively associated with family meal time. In weekend model, father's education gradient was associated with family meal time, showing higher the father's education level, there were higher chance of having weekend family meal. As for the eating alone, relevant factors were similar with family meal but the directions were the opposite; having family leisure were negatively associated with alone meal, both weekdays and weekend. Long academy hours, meal preparing and leisure alone were positively associated eating alone. Overall, weekday meal time was strongly linked with adolescent daily schedules and time use, while for weekends meal, in both family meal and alone meal, the influence of parent factors were discovered. Conclusion: The results indicates that alone meal and the family meal are not exclusively related but seem to be complementary. Families tend to enjoy family meal yet, there are some necessary situation that adolescent need to be on their own. Increase in ready-made food industries, growing independence of children by age seem partly allow adolescent children to eat alone. Careful attentions may require for monitoring weekends meal situation and the family factor of adolescent in future studies.

예비유아교사의 창의적 인성과 교사효능감의 관계 (Creative Personality and Teacher Efficacy of Pre-service Kindergarten Teachers)

  • 본 연구에서는 예비유아교사의 창의적 인성과 교사효능감의 상관관계에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 연구대상은 보육실습과 교육실습의 경험이 있는 경기지역에 소재한 S대학, Y대학 유아교육과 3학년 학생 165명이었다. 측정도구로는 하주현의 창의적 인성검사와 김순남에 의해 수정된 TEBI(Teaching Eefficacy Belief Instrument)교사효능감 검사를 사용하였다. 수집한 자료는 일원변량분석, schaffer 사후검증, 적률상관계수, 중다회귀분석을 이용하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 예비유아교사의 배경변인(성적, 연령, 임원활동)에 따른 창의적 인성의 차이는 유의하지 않았다. 둘째, 예비유아교사의 배경변인에 따른 교사효능감의 차이에서 '연령'은 교사효능감과 정적인 상관관계를 보였으며 특히 개인 교사효능감에 유의한 차이가 있었다. 셋째, 창의적 인성 점수가 높은 예비유아교사들이 교사효능감도 대체로 높았으며 특히 개인 교사효능감에서 더욱 유의미한 상관관계를 나타냈다. 예비유아교사의 교사효능감을 예언해주는 창의적 인성 요인은 자기 확신, 상상, 개방성'인 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 토대로, 예비유아교사의 창의적 인성과 일반 교사효능감의 관계를 인식하고 이를 촉진하는 교육과정 운영방안에 대해 논의하였다.

어머니의 사회심리적(社會心理的) 역량(力量) 및 자녀에 대한 수용성(受容性)과 아동의 사회적(社會的) 역량(力量)과의 관계 (The Relationship between Maternal Psychosocial Competence, Acceptance and Children's Social Competence)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify what relationship exists between the children's social competence and psychosocial competence of mother, mother's acceptance for her children and is to clarify how children's sex, the demographic backgrounds of the families are affecting for the children's social competence. The detailed research areas which were dealt with in this study can be described as follows :1) Are there any relationships between mother's psychosocial competence and children's social competence? 2) Are there any relationships between mother's acceptance and children's social competence? 3) Are there any differences in children's social competence according to their sex? 4) Are there any differences in children's social competence according to familie's demographic backgrounds? Third grade 314 children who attend primary-school in Chongju were randomly selected as the subjects for the study and their mothers were also involved as subjects. Among them, mother-daughter pairs are 151 and mother-son pairs are 163. The result of this study is as follows: 1. There appeared significant positive correlations between the mothers' psychosocial competence and children's social competence. 2. There appeared significant positive correlations between the maternal acceptance and children's social competance. As the result of a stepwise multiple regression analysis, maternal acceptance appeared as a variable which indicates children's social competence. 3. There appeared differences in competence between boys and girls, and girls' social competence was higher than that of boys. 4. There appeared children's social competence differences according to the socioeconomic status of a family. Among demographic backgrounds of a family, mothers' academic careers, mothers' age, fathers' jobs, income were the variables which affect children's social competence.

아동의 개인적 변인과 환경적 변인이 또래에 의한 괴롭힘에 미치는 영향 (The Individual and Environmental Variables that Affect Victimization by Peer Harassment among Children)

  • This study examined different individual and environmental factors that affect children's experience of harassment from their peers. For the individual variables, gender, behavioral problems, and self-esteem were included in the anal)'sis. For the family variables, mother's parenting style and the socio-economic status of parents were examined, and for the school variables, the supervision of the teacher and the attitudes of the classmates toward bullying were used. Two forms of peer harassment, the overt form and the relational form were examined in this study. The sample consisted of 520 fifth grade children. Statistics and methods used for the data analysis were Cronbach's alpha, factor analysis, frequency, percentage, means, standard deviation, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression. Several major relationships were found from the analyses. First, the more the children tend to internalize behavioral problems and have lower self-esteem, the more likely they are to get victimized by overt and relational forms of harassment. Boys experience more overt harassment than girls. Second, the more the mother's parenting style is permissive-nonintervening, or rejecting-restricting, and the higher the father's social status is, the more likely the child is subjected to overt and relational forms of harassment. Third, the more the children feel that the teacher is paying attention to bullying, the less the children are subjected to the overt form of peer harassment. Fourth, children's internalizing behavioral problems, mother's permissiveness-nonintervention, children's self-esteem, children's gender, and the supervision of the teacher regarding bullying significantly affected the experience of overt forms of harassment. A twenty two percent variance in the victimization of an overt form was explained by those variables. Children's internalizing behavioral problems, mother's permissiveness-nonintervention, children's self-esteem, and mother's rejection-restriction significantly affected the experience of relational form of peers harassment. Twenty six percent of the variance in the relational form of victimization was explained by those variables.

놀이와 게임을 활용한 주의력향상훈련을 적용한 ADHD 아동의 단일사례연구 (A Single Case Study on a Child with ADHD by the Application of Attention Improvement Training Composed of Play and Games)

  • 본 연구는 ADHD 아동으로 진단 받은 초등학교 4학년 학생을 대상으로 한 사례연구이다. 본 연구의 대상자인 정보제공자는 주의력 부족과 충동적인 행동특성이 두드러진 아동이었으므로 대상아동의 주의력향상에 초점을 두고 주의력향상과 함께 충동성을 감소시키는 데에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 쉽게 지루함을 느끼고 집중을 잘 하지 못하는 ADHD 아동이 관심과 흥미를 가질 수 있는 놀이와 게임을 활용하여 주의력향상 훈련 프로그램을 구안하여 15회기 동안 적용하였다. 훈련 프로그램의 효과검증을 위 해 주의력과 충동성을 측정하는 자기보고 측정치와 수행과제를 프로그램을 시작하기 전, 프로그램이 끝난 후, 프로그램이 끝난 뒤 6주 후에 검사를 실시하였다. 또한 진행 과정에서 관찰일지, 상담일지, 주변인물과의 면담등의 모든 자료를 수집, 분석하여 정보제공자를 질이 있게 이해하고자 하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 놀이와 게임을 활용한 주의력향상훈련을 적용하여 주의력 관련 사전, 사후, 5주 후 지속검사, 상담일지 등의 관찰된 자료를 통해 정보제공자의 주의력이 향상되었고 그 효과도 지속되는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 놀이와 게임을 활용한 주의력향상훈련을 적용하여 충동성 관련 사전, 사후, 6주 후 지속검사, 상담일지 등의 관찰된 자료를 통해 정보제공자의 충동성이 감소되었고 그 효과도 지속되는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 주의력과 충동성의 검사결과 뿐만 아니라 프로그램 진행과정에서 관찰된 모든 자료를 수집하여 분석한 결과 교우관계와 자신감에 있어서도 긍정적인 변화가 나타났다.

소아 결절성 십이지장염의 임상적 및 조직병리학적 소견 (Clinical and Histopathologic Features and Their Correlations in Children with Nodular Duodenitis)

  • 목 적: 결절성 십이지장염은 내시경 검사상 십이지장에 두 개 이상의 홍반성 결절들이 보이며 주변에 염증 소견이 관찰되는 질환이다. 최근 위내시경 검사의 발달로 인해 결절성 십이지장염은 소아에서도 발생빈도가 증가하는데 아직 국내외적으로 전반적인 연구가 미미한 실정이다. 이에 저자들은 소아에서 결절성 십이지장염의 임상적 및 조직병리학적 소견을 조사하여 이 질환에 대한 전반적인 이해를 도모하고자 본 연구를 시행하였다. 방 법: 1995년 1월부터 1999년 12월까지 서울적십자병원 소아내시경실에서 시행된 상부위장관 내시경 검사상 결절성 십이지장염으로 진단된 39례를 대상으로 유병률, 성별 및 연령별 분포, 주증상, 내시경 소견과 조직병리학적 소견 및 이의 상관관계 등에 대해 후향적으로 연구를 실시하였다. 내시경 검사상 병변의 정도는 십이지장 결절의 크기와 분포에 따라 제 1, 2, 3 도로 분류하였고 십이지장의 조직병리학적 검사는 십이지장 고유층의 염증세포 침윤 정도, 상피세포 및 융모의 소실 정도에 따라 정상, 제 1, 2, 3 도로 분류하였다. 위의 조직학적 소견은 위점막의 고유판과 상피내에 염증세포의 침윤 정도 및 상피의 손상 정도에 따라 0에서 6까지 구분하였다. H. pylori의 감염 정도는 Prieto 등의 분류법에 따라 제 0, 1, 2, 3 도로 구분하였다. 십이지장에서 내시경적 소견의 정도와 조직병리학적 소견의 정도 및 H. pylori 감염 정도 간에 상관관계가 있는지 알아보기 위해 통계 프로그램으로 Graph PAD InStat의 linear regression module을 사용하여 correlation coefficient와 p-value를 구하였다. 결 과: 1) 결절성 십이지장염은 17.1%의 유병률을 나타내었고 남녀비는 1 대 2이었다. 7세부터 12세까지에서 가장 빈도(61.5%)가 높았고 주증상은 복통이 69.2%로 가장 많았다. 2) 본 질환의 내시경 등급은 제 1 도 45.7%, 제 2도 34.3%, 제 3 도 20.0%이었으며 동반된 내시경적 소견상 결절성 위염은 28.3%이었다. 3) 십이지장의 조직병리학적 검사상 제 1 도는 22.9%, 제 2 도는 54.3%, 제 3 도는 22.9%이었으며 위의 조직검사상 제 1 도는 22.9%, 제 2 도는 42.9%, 제 3 도는 25.7%, 제 4 도는 8.6%이었다. 4) 십이지장의 조직병리학적 검사상 H. pylori의 감염 정도는 제 1 도 5.7%, 제 2 도 8.6%, 제 3 도 22.9%로 37.1%의 십이지장 조직에서 H. pylori가 발견되었다. 위의 조직병리학적 검사상 H. pylori의 감염정도는 제 1 도 11.4%, 제 2 도 11.4%, 제 3 도 8.6%로 31.4%의 위 조직에서 H. pylori가 발견되었다. 5) 본 질환의 내시경적 등급과 조직병리학적 등급 간의 상관계수는 0.3983 (p=0.0178)이었고, 조직병리학적 등급과 십이지장 조직에서의 H. pylori 감염 등급간의 상관계수는 0.5154 (p=0.0018)이었다. 결 론: 결절성 십이지장염의 내시경적 등급과 조직병리학적 등급 사이에 통계적으로 의미있는 상관관계가 나타났으며(r=0.3983, p=0.0178), 또한 조직병리학적 등급과 십이지장 조직에서의 H. pylori 감염 등급간에도 통계적으로 의미있는 상관관계를보였다(r=0.5154, p=0.0018). 따라서 H. pylori 감염이 본 질환의 발생에 주요한 역할을 할 것으로 여겨지며 이외의 유발 원인에 대해서는 추후 지속적인 추적 관찰 및 보다 많은 연구가 시행되어야 하겠다.

A Short Test of English Silent Word Reading for English Language Learners

  • We developed a test of English silent word reading, following work by Mather, Hammill, Allen and Roberts (2004) and Bell, McCallum, Krik, Fuller, and McCane-Bowling (2007), in order to tap Hong Kong Chinese children's reading of English as a foreign language. We created one subtest of individual word reading and another of word reading contextualized within sentences; together, these tests require no more than 10 minutes for administration. In Study 1, we administered the entire test to 552 second grade Hong Kong Chinese children between the ages of 70 and 121 months old, from five different primary schools. The association between the subtests of English silent word reading and contextual reading was positively correlated (.78). In Study 2, 77 Hong Kong Chinese second graders were tested on our newly developed English silent word reading test, together with non-verbal IQ, an English word reading and a Chinese character recognition test (both read aloud). With age and non-verbal IQ statistically controlled, there was a significant correlation between English silent word reading and the more standard English word reading, read aloud, (.78); the association between English silent word reading and Chinese character recognition was also positively correlated (.49). This newly created test is a quick and reliable measure, suitable for both educators and researchers to use to identify poor readers who learn English as a foreign or second language.

학령기 입원아동의 입원상황 인지 및 병원 관련 공포가 입원생활 적응에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Hospitalization Recognition and Hospital-Related Fear on the Adjustment to Hospital Life by Hospitalized School-Aged Children)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify the level of adjustment to hospital life, hospitalization recognition and hospital-related fear by school-aged children, and investigate the influence of hospitalization recognition and hospital-related fear on the hospital life of these children. Methods: Participants were 112 three to six grade students who were hospitalized from 3 to 7 days at one of two children's hospital. Date were collected from September 2015 to March 2016. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, multiple regression. Results: The mean score for adjustment to hospital life was $3.43{\pm}0.40$ of 5, for hospitalization recognition, $2.98{\pm}0.46$ of 4 and for hospital-related fear, $1.37{\pm}0.28$ of 3. Factors affecting adjustment to hospital life were hospital-related fear (${\beta}=-.28$, p=.002) and hospitalization recognition (${\beta}=.27$, p=.003). These factors explained 17% of the variance in adjustment to hospital life. Conclusion: Results indicate that adjustment to hospital life by school-aged children is not sufficient enough for them to cope with illnesses and hospitalization. Therefore, to improve adjustment to hospital life by school-aged children, nursing interventions that focus on increasing hospitalization recognition and decreasing hospital-related fear need to be developed.

가족의례와 아내의 결혼만족도 간의 관계 (The Relationship between Family Rituals and Marital Satisfaction for Wives)

  • The purpose of this study is first to examine the tendency in what kinds of activities are carried out as family rituals; what kinds of obstacles there are; and why any problems, if any, tend to arise. Second, the study seeks to discern the relationship between family rituals and wives' marital satisfaction. For this purpose, the study surveyed 251 wives who had fourth, fifth, or sixth grade children and resided in Busan, and then analyzed the data obtained from the survey. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows: (1) Regarding the dinner ritual, it turned out that a majority of subjects had a difficult time establishing a regular ritual due to 'their busy schedule at work' and 'children's studying at academies'. For the weekend leisure ritual, in the case of difficulty in spending this kind of time it tended to be because of the wives' 'busy schedules at work' and 'lack of mutually available time for all family members'. In birthday rituals, when wives reported having trouble with her family members regarding birthdays, they explained that this was most often' because family members forget their birthday'. Finally, when the subjects reported problems related to tradition rituals, it was mainly because of 'stress from the burden of housework (2) In every dimensions including occurrence, routine, deliberateness, attendance, affect, and symbolic significance, the top-ranked group showed a high degree of satisfaction in their marriage.
