Strengthening the regulation standard of biological nutrient in wastewater treatment plant(WWTP), the necessity of repair of WWTP which is operated in conventional activated sludge process to advanced nutrient removal treatment is increased. However, in full-scale wastewater treatment system, it is not easy to fine the optimized operational condition of the advanced nutrient removal treatment through experiment due to the complex response of various influent conditions and operational conditions. Therefore, in this study, an upgrading design of conventional activated sludge process to advanced nutrient removal process using the modeling and simulation method based on activated sludge model(ASMs) is executed. And a design optimization of advanced treatment process using the response surface method(RSM) is carried out for statistical and systematic approach. In addition, for the operational optimization of full-scale WWTP, a correct analysis about kinetic variables of wastewater treatment is necessary. In this study, through partial least square(PLS) analysis which is one of the multivariable statistical analysis methods, a correlation between the kinetic variables of wastewater treatment system is comprehended, and the most effective variables to the advanced treatment operation result is deducted. Through this study, the methodology for upgrading design and operational optimization of advanced treatment process is provided, and an efficient repair of WWTP to advanced treatment can be expected reducing the design time and costs.

This paper focuses on the impacts of waste dumping on inorganic nutrients in the dumping area of the Yellow Sea, and the effect of an governmental regulation of pollution in dumping areas. The environmental variables and parameters of the dumping and reference areas in the Yellow Sea were measured during July 2009 and analyzed. In addition, the analyzed data for inorganic nutrients over the last 10 years were obtained from the Korea Coast Guard (KCG) and the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI). The chemical environment of the study area revealed increases in concentrations of inorganic nutrients, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and Volatile Suspended Solids (VSS) in the bottom layer. On the contrary, the pH level was decreased. Most notably, the time series data of inorganic nutrients showed gradual increase over time in the dumping area, and thus, the oligotrophic waters trend toward eutrophic waters. The increases appears to be due to the disposal of large amounts of organic waste. In recent times, the wastes disposed at the area were largely comprised of livestock wastewater, and food processing waste water. The liquefied waste, which contains an abundance of nutrients, causes a sharp increase in concentrations of inorganic nitrogen in the dumping area. On the one hand, the dumping sites have been deteriorated to such an extent that pollution has become a social problem. Consequentially, the government had a regulatory policy for improvement of marine environmental since 2007 in the dumping area. Hence, the quality of marine water in the dumping site has improved.
SH group modifying chemicals were used to characterize the eight cysteine residues of cabbage PLD. 5,5-dithiobis(2-nitrobenzoate)(DTNB) was used to titrate the SH group of cysteine residues . Based on the optical density at 412nm due to the reduced DTNB, 4 SH groups are found to be present in a native PLD while 8 SH groups in the denatured PLD whose tertiary structure was perturbed by 8M urea. The results imply that among the 8 cysteine residues of PLD, the half(4) are exposed on the surface whereas the other half are present at the interior of the enzyme tertiary structure. The PLD was inactivated by SH modifying reagents such as p-chloromercuribenzoate(PCMB), iodoacetate, iodoacetamide, and N-ethylmaleimide. At the addition of dithiothreitol(DTT) only the PCMB inhibited PLD activity was recovered reversibly. The micro-environment of the exposed SH group of cysteine residues was examined with various disulfide compounds with different functional groups and we found that anionic or neutral disulfides appear to be more effective than the positively charged cystamine for inactivating the PLD activity. The effect of redox state of cysteine residues on the PLD activity was further explored with H2O2. The oxidation of SH groups by H2O2 inhibited the PLD activity more than 70%, which was mostly recovered by DTT. From these results, we could confirm chemically that all the cysteine residues of PLD are present as in their reduced SH forms and the 4 SH groups exposed on the surface of the enzyme may play important roles in the regulation of PLD activity.
The validation of many synthetic chemicals that may pose a genetic hazard in our environment is of great concern at present. Since these substances are not limited to the original products, and enter the environment, they have become widespread environmental pollutants, thus leading to a variety of chemicals that possibly threaten the public health. In this respect, the regulation and evaluation of the chemical hazard playa very important role to environment and human health. The clastogenicity of 17 synthetic chemicals was evaluated in Chinese hamster lung fibroblast cells in vitro. 2-Nitroaniline (CAS No. 88-74-4) induced chromosomal aberrations with statistical significance at the concentration of 86.3 ${\mu}$g/ml in the absence of metabolic activation system. 1-Chloroanthraquinone (CAS No. 82-44-0) which is one of the most cytotoxic chemical among 17 chemicals tested revealed no clastogenicity in the range of 0.8 ∼ 3.0 ${\mu}$g/ml both in the presence and absence of S-9 metabolic activation system. From the results of chromosomal aberration assay with 17 synthetic chemicals in Chinese hamster lung cells in vitro, 2-Nitroaniline (CAS No. 88-74-4) revealed weak positive clastogenic results in this study.
This study analyzed results of the causes of failure in 1,022 fire trucks currently being used in South Korea (aerial ladder, aerial platform, pumper, and chemical fire trucks). The results show that 46% of aerial ladder trucks have defective in the elevator brake systems, 29% of aerial platform trucks have contamination in the hydraulic oil, 37% of pumpers have defective in the pneumatic cylinders of the air supply system, and 39% of chemical fire trucks have defective in the powder fire extinguishing systems. The principal reasons for malfunctions are deterioration of the apparatuses, and accumulated fatigue from repetitive use of certain components, such as pneumatic cylinders in the air supply system and wire rope jamming in rollers in the ladder apparatus. These manufacturing defects should be improved upon in the manufacturing process. As a result, the fire trucks, which are used for 5 years or more, need precise inspections in accordance with the Regulation on Fire Apparatus Maintenance. Fire apparatuses have a service life of 10 to 12 years or more. They need to be replaced or require life extension, and they should be kept in top shape with the best maintenance for public safety.

The goal of data mining is to extract new and useful knowledge from large scale datasets. As the amount of available data grows explosively, it became vitally important to develop faster data mining algorithms for various types of data. Recently, an interest in developing data mining algorithms that operate on graphs has been increased. Especially, mining frequent patterns from structured data such as graphs has been concerned by many research groups. A graph is a highly adaptable representation scheme that used in many domains including chemistry, bioinformatics and physics. For example, the chemical structure of a given substance can be modelled by an undirected labelled graph in which each node corresponds to an atom and each edge corresponds to a chemical bond between atoms. Internet can also be modelled as a directed graph in which each node corresponds to an web site and each edge corresponds to a hypertext link between web sites. Notably in bioinformatics area, various kinds of newly discovered data such as gene regulation networks or protein interaction networks could be modelled as graphs. There have been a number of attempts to find useful knowledge from these graph structured data. One of the most powerful analysis tool for graph structured data is frequent subgraph analysis. Recurring patterns in graph data can provide incomparable insights into that graph data. However, to find recurring subgraphs is extremely expensive in computational side. At the core of the problem, there are two computationally challenging problems. 1) Subgraph isomorphism and 2) Enumeration of subgraphs. Problems related to the former are subgraph isomorphism problem (Is graph A contains graph B?) and graph isomorphism problem(Are two graphs A and B the same or not?). Even these simplified versions of the subgraph mining problem are known to be NP-complete or Polymorphism-complete and no polynomial time algorithm has been existed so far. The later is also a difficult problem. We should generate all of 2$^n$ subgraphs if there is no constraint where n is the number of vertices of the input graph. In order to find frequent subgraphs from larger graph database, it is essential to give appropriate constraint to the subgraphs to find. Most of the current approaches are focus on the frequencies of a subgraph: the higher the frequency of a graph is, the more attentions should be given to that graph. Recently, several algorithms which use level by level approaches to find frequent subgraphs have been developed. Some of the recently emerging applications suggest that other constraints such as connectivity also could be useful in mining subgraphs : more strongly connected parts of a graph are more informative. If we restrict the set of subgraphs to mine to more strongly connected parts, its computational complexity could be decreased significantly. In this paper, we present an efficient algorithm to mine frequent subgraphs that are more strongly connected. Experimental study shows that the algorithm is scaling to larger graphs which have more than ten thousand vertices.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of an alternative fuel resource by incinerating a mix of combustible MSW (municipal solid waste) and offals after separating recyclable material at the MRF (material recovery facilities) location. We analyzed the physical and chemical properties including the 3-contents, the calorific value, and chemical compositions of the separation rejects in MRF, and compared the results with combustible MSW. Moreover, we experimented the trend of combustible properties and the concentration change of air pollutants at mixed incineration in the MSW incinerator. According to the results of the experiment, the separation rejects showed higher heating value (5,865 kcal/kg), and lower moisture and ash content than combustible MSW. Since we have incinerated MSW in the MSW incinerator mixing the offals at 30% and 50% respectively, we know that the change of the concentration of dust, $SO_2$, $NO_2$, and CO did not appear significant, and not exceed the pollutants emission regulation. But, considering the enhancement of the HCl emission concentration (max. 33.7 ppm) at the co-incineration of the 50% offals, we believe that the proper mixing ratio of the separation rejects would become within 30%.
In order to analyze the composition of fatty acid in the seed oil. and amino acid in the seed protein of wild thornless chinese pepper tree; Zanthoxylum schinifolum var. inermis Nakai. GLC method and amino acid autoanalyzer were applied. respectively. while the general composition of the seed and physico-chemical properties of the seed oil were also determined by A. O. A. C. method. The results obtained were summarized as follow The content of oil, protein and ashes were 47.05%, 20.14% and 3.1%, respectively. The content of sulfur and cyan compound in the seed were 0.02% and 0.00005%, respectively, which were far below than allowed guantity by food regulation. Therefore, it is considered to be safe for edible purpose. The iodine absorption number obtained was 145.2, which might be belonged to drying oil. The physico-chemical properties of the seed oil such as acid value, saponification number and refractive index showed the characteristics of an unsaturated high molecular fatty acid compound. The seed oil was composed of 34.8% of oleic acid, 25.1% of linoleic acid and 26.1% of linolenic acid, which accounts for more than 80% of essential fatty acid. Therefore, it could be used as an edible oil. Seventeen kinds of amino acids were anayzed from seed protein. Among them comparatively high content of threonine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine and phenylalanine were observed. As a non-essential amino acid, glutamic acid was found as high as 4.985%. From these results the seed of thornless Chinese pepper would be good for oil and protein source.
Types of agricultural policy can be catagorized into two general cases: price and income supports. Income supports are any government program designed to provide farmers with higher incomes than they would receive otherwise. These direct cash payments to farmers are known as "deficiency payment" or "direct payment" because they compensate the farmer for the failure of the market to provide farmers with adequate prices. The direct payment to environment-friendly agriculture is a form of income supports for the agriculture production using less pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Because no significant regulation exists on the use of fertilizers substituting chemical fertilizers for crop, the role of the payment on reducing environmental impacts of agriculture is not entirely clear. This uncertainty is likely to be particularly severe in the case that farmers with low-quality land showing greater demand for fertiliser have an incentive to transition to environment-friendly agriculture. The paper shows the case of the current payment system in Korea.
Two different digestion procedures for the simultaneous determination of major and platinum-group element(PGE) in spent automobile catalysts containing PGE and silicates by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry(ICP-AES) are compared. Combinations of mixed aids using HF, $HNO_3$, HCl, $HClO_4$, $H_2O_2$, and $H_3BO_3$ are utilized for the hot plate dissolution method and the closed-vessel microwave digestion method, The latter method has been shown to be relatively superior in terms of recovery, analysis time, and amount of aqua regia (3 parts HCl + part $HNO_3$ required to dissolve PGE in comparison with conventional open vessel hot-plate dissolution. The best results were drawn from the following conditions: In closed Teflon PFA vessels under microwave heating with temperature/pressure regulation, a 0.25 g portion of sample was digested in 2 mL of HF, 2 mL of $HNO_3$ and 6mL of HCl under the pressure of 200 psi(13.79 bar) at $180^{\circ}C$ for 1hr, followed by a second digestion stage with 16 mL of 5%(w/v) boric acid under the pressure of 20 psi(1.38 bar) at $100^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. After the microwave heating, the sample was post-treated with 10 mL of aqua regia twice by hot-plate heating. This condition gives the PGE recovery within 85~110% and the relative standard deviations within 2%. The method developed can therefore be regarded as an alternative method for routine analysis of spent automobile catalysts.
