Silicon oxide thin films have been deposited by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition in SiH4 and N2O plasma along the variation of the gas flow ratio. Optical emission spectroscopy was employed to monitor the plasma and ellipsometry was employed to obtain refractive index of the deposited thin film. The atomic ratio of Si, O, and N in the film was obtained using XPS depth profiling. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy was used to analyze structures of the films. RI decreased with the increase in N2O/SiH4 gas flow ratio. We noticed the increase in the Si-O-Si bond angles as the N2O/SiH4 gas flow ratio increased, according to the analysis of the Si-O-Si stretching peak between 950 and 1,150 cm-1 in the wavenumber. We observed a correlation between the optical emission intensity ratio of (ISi+ISiH)/IO. The OES intensity ratio is also related with the measured refractive index and chemical composition ratio of the deposited thin film. Therefore, we report the added value of OES data analysis from the plasma related to the thin film characteristics in the PECVD process.

(Fe, Co)/zeolite catalysts such as (Fe, Co)/NaY, (Fe, Co)/NaBeta and (Fe, Co)/HUSY were prepared by ion-exchange method and their catalytic performance was examined in the hydroxylation of phenol with $H_2O_2$ for the production of catechol. The (Fe, Co)/NaBeta catalyst showed its best performance at reaction temperature=$70^{\circ}C$, molar ratio of phenol/$H_2O_2=3$, weight ratio of phenol/catalyst=50 and weight ratio of solvent (water)/phenol=6 as 20% of phenol conversion, 77% of the selectivity for the hydroxylation, 70% of the selectivity for catechol, and 2.5 of the formation ratio of catechol/hydroquinone. The (Fe, Co)/zeolite catalysts showed the reproducible activities without deactivation after repeated regeneration. The fresh and used(Fe, Co)/zeolites were characterized by XRD, UV-VIS DRS, and XPS and their catalytic performance was discussed based on these characterization results.
The method of calculating the excess Helmholtz free energy from the averaged effective acceptance ratio for the Lennard-Jones fluid and the inverse twelve fluid has been slightly modified and applied to the two-center-Lennard-Jones liquid. The excess Helmholtz free energy is calculated directly from the average of the modified effective acceptance ratio through a single Metropolis Monte Carlo simulation. Therefore this method does not need any reference system. The results of the present method were satisfactory compared with those of the perturbation theories and the overlap ratio method.

Pyrolyzed fuel oil (PFO) and coal tar was blended in the feedstock to produce pitch via thermal reaction. The blended feedstock and produced pitch were characterized to investigate the effect of the blending ratio. In the feedstock analysis, coal tar exhibited a distinct distribution in its boiling point related to the number of aromatic rings and showed higher Conradson carbon residue and aromaticity values of 26.6% and 0.67%, respectively, compared with PFO. The pitch yield changed with the blending ratio, while the softening point of the produced pitch was determined by the PFO ratio in the blends. On the other hand, the carbon yield increased with increasing coal tar ratio in the blends. This phenomenon indicated that the formation of aliphatic bridges in PFO may occur during the thermal reaction, resulting in an increased softening point. In addition, it was confirmed that the molecular weight distribution of the produced pitch was associated with the predominant feedstock in the blend.
To graft N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) onto alginate, varying dosages of ${\gamma}$-rays were irradiated onto alginate films in deionized water and methanol media, which are non-solvents of alginate. We investigated the hydrogels graft ratio, mechanical strength, swelling kinetics and ratio, and behavior with respect to drug release. The graft yield of NIPAAm increased upon increasing the irradiation dose. The use of the aqueous solution increased the graft yield relative to that obtained in methanol. The mechanical strength of the grafted hydrogels increased after grafting with NIPAAm. In a study of the swelling kinetics, we found that all hydrogels reached an equilibrium swollen state within 3 h. The equilibrium swelling ratio of the hydrogels decreased upon increasing the irradiation dose. The swelling ratio of the hydrogels decreased dramatically between 30 and 35$^{\circ}C$ because phase separation of NIPAAm occurred at 32$^{\circ}C$. The swelling process, with respect to the temperature change, was repeatable. An NIPAAm-grafted alginate containing a drug sustained its release rate until 3 h after an initial high drug release caused by a burst effect.
For the development of the environment-friendly insulating composite materials, natural cellulose (wood chip and sawdust) was used as a core material and activated Hwangtoh was used as a binder. Various specimens were prepared with the water/binder ratio and natural cellulose/binder ratio. The physical properties of these specimens were then investigated through compressive and flexural strength test, absorption test, hot water resistance test, thermal conductivity, measurement of pore distribution and observation of micro-structures using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results showed that the absorption ratio increased with the increase of natural cellulose/binder ratio but decreased remarkably with the increase of polymer/binder ratio. The compressive and flexural strength development varied appreciably with the increase of water/binder ratio and natural cellulose/binder ratio. On the other hand, thermal conductivity decreased with the increase of natural cellulose/binder ratio and polymer/binder ratio. Through SEM, it was found that activated Hwangtoh that reacted with water formed a hydrate crystal leading to the compact structure and the total pore volume of the specimen using activated Hwangtoh was smaller than that of the non-activated Hwangtoh.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the chemical resistance of polymer powder-modified mortars with special accelerator component. Polymer powder-modified mortars with the accelerator are prepared with various polymer-binder ratios, and tested for flexural and compressive strengths and mass change. Chemicals resistance was tested by dealing with $10\%$ HCl and $5\%\;H_2SO_4$ aqueous solution. As a result, the weight reduction ratio of the mortars decreased with increasing polymer-binder ratio. However, in the viewpoint of strength reduction by chemical attacks, the maximum chemical resistance of the mortars was shown at a polymer-binder ratio of $5\%$.
In this work, alkyl methacrylate-based microgels were synthesized by an experimental design method, and their sebum absorption characteristics were investigated. The results of fractional factorial experimentation indicated that the cross-linking agent content, solvent content, and stirring speed were the main parameters in the synthesis of the microgels. The suitable synthesis conditions were determined by the response surface design method. Through a study of the monomer and solvent effects, it was confirmed that the microgel shows the highest sebum absorption ratio when t-butyl methacrylate is used as a monomer or when acetone is used as a solvent. The optimal microgel synthesis conditions for cosmetic application were determined, and the resulting microgel had a mean particle size of 4.7 μm and a sebum absorption ratio of 435%.
We have conducted a preliminary numerical analysis to understand the effects of double-diffusive convection on the molar flux at the crystal region during the growth of mercurous bromide ($Hg_2Br_2$) crystals in 1 g and microgravity (${\mu}g$) conditions. It was found that the total molar fluxes decay first-order exponentially with the aspect ratio (AR, transport length-to-width), $1{\leq}AR{\leq}10$. With increasing the aspect ratio of the horizontal enclosure from AR = 1 up to Ar = 10, the convection flow field shifts to the advective-diffusion mode and the flow structures become stable. Therefore, altering the aspect ratio of the enclosure allows one to control the effect of the double diffusive natural convection. Moreover, microgravity environments less than $10^{-2}g$ make the effect of double-diffusive natural convection much reduced so that the convection mode could be switched over the advective-diffusion mode.
