An Algorithm for the Traveling Salesperson Problem with Time Windows and Lateness Costs

  • This paper presents a model and dynamic programming based algorithm for the Traveling Salesperson Problem with Time Windows (TSPTW). The main difference of our model compared with the previous ones lies in that the time windows we are concerned are far more flexible and realistic. In the typical TSPTW, the service at a node must begin within the time grid called the time window that is defined by the earliest and the latest time to start the service at the node. But, in real business practices, a lateness cost is usually penalized rather than the service is prohibited at all when a vehicle arrives after the latest time. Considering this situation, we propose a model with a new time window that allows an arrival after the latest time and penalizes the late arrival by charging a lateness cost. An algorithm introduced for the model is extensively tested to verify the accuracy and efficiency.

  • In this paper, a peak detection algorithm having high reliability is proposed. The peak detection algorithm is implemented to a charger and power control system which is applicable to home appliances or notebook PC directly. The charger and power control system is controlled by a microprocessor, M50927 (Mitzubishi), to improve cost to performance ratio. The charger algorithm is designed to be operated under optimal charge node and various protections are added tn improve the reliability of the charger.

  • In this paper, we applied a three-level T-type inverter with the one more voltage level than two-level inverter. However, the three-level T-type inverter has a systematic problem with voltage unbalances. So neutral point control is essential. Therefore, the voltage unbalance problem of the three - phase inverter was confirmed to be controlled within 5V using the neutral point control algorithm in charge and discharge mode. In addition, total harmonic distortion was reduced in three phases (u phase, v phase, w phase) when neutral point control was performed in charging mode and also in three phases (u phase, v phase, w phase) in discharge mode. In this paper suggests a neutral point control algorithm to solve the voltage unbalance of a three-level T-type inverter, and shows the improvement of the performance of the proposed algorithm through experiment.

  • In the paper, we propose a data transmission repeating system that allows data transmission for the effective supervision of cows grazing in the pasture. It is normal practice to divide the pasture into different areas for the purpose of distributing the grazing. However, this makes it difficult to supply electrical power and transmit data, because some of the pastures are far away from the office used for collecting data. To solve this problem, we developed a repeating system that can allow data transmission in the pasture using a solar charging system that consists of a 60W solar panel, 12V/100A battery and 6A solar controller for the power supply and a data transmission algorithm which extends the range of data transmission when using the proposed repeating system. We verified the performance of the repeating system by checking whether the data transmission is successful or not when transmitting from various test points when there is an obstacle between the receiver and repeating system. We also verified the solar charging system by measuring the battery voltage when the system is operated continuously for 31 days and whether the system can supply sufficient power when the weather is cloudy or rainy for a few days. Finally, we verified the performance of the repeating system and data transmission algorithm by conducting experiments in a pasture.

  • This paper discussed a transformer-less shunt static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) with consideration of the following aspects: fast compensation of the reactive power, harmonic cancelation and reducing the unbalancing of the 3-phase source side currents. The STATCOM control algorithm is based on the theory of instantaneous reactive power (P-Q theory). A self charging technique is proposed to regulate the dc capacitor voltage at a desired level with the use of a PI controller. In order to regulate the DC link voltage, an off-line Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to tune the coefficients of the PI controller. This algorithm arranged these coefficients while considering the importance of three factors in the DC link voltage response: overshoot, settling time and rising time. For this investigation, the entire system including the STATCOM, network, harmonics and unbalancing load are simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK. After that, a 35KVA STATCOM laboratory setup test including two parallel converter modules is designed and the control algorithm is executed on a TMS320F2812 controller platform.

Cost-Effective APF/UPS System with Seamless Mode Transfer

  • In this paper, the development of a cost-effective active power filter/uninterruptible power supply (APF/UPS) system with seamless mode transfer is described. The proposed scheme employs a pulse-width-modulation (PWM) voltage-source inverter and has two operational modes. First, when the source voltage is normal, the system operates as an APF, which compensates for the harmonics and power factor while boosting the DC-link voltage to be ready for the disturbance, without an additional DC charging circuit. A simple algorithm to detect the load current harmonics is also proposed. Second, when the source voltage is out of the normal range (owing to sag, swell, or outage), it operates a UPS, which controls the output voltage constantly by discharging the DC-link capacitor. Furthermore, a seamless transfer method for the single-phase inverter between the APF mode and the UPS mode is also proposed, in which an IGBT switch with diodes is used as a static bypass switch. Dissimilar to a conventional SCR switch, the IGBT switch can implement a seamless mode transfer. During the UPS operation, when the source voltage returns to the normal range, the system operates as an APF. The proposed system has good transient and steady-state response characteristics. The APF, charging circuit, and UPS systems are implemented in one inverter system. Finally, the validity of the proposed scheme is investigated with simulated and experimental results for a prototype APF/UPS system rated at 3 kVA.

  • The electrical safety and efficiency is the most important thing of the electric vehicle charging system. The prior system is contact charging system that is contacted directly by human. So, it has riskiness such as electric shock in the case of poor insulation or contact problems. To solve these safety issues and the convenience problems, a wireless power transmission system has been developed and is currently in trial operation. However, because high frequency is used in wireless power transmission system instead of commercial frequency, we need to apply protection measures concerning electric shock and equipment protection. Also, it should be accompanied by measuring efficiency for the effective operation of the wireless power transmission system. Therefore, we structured monitoring system in trial operation area of wireless power transmission system and applied decision algorithm for protection of human and equipment and economic operation of it.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a piezo injector driver for common-rail direct injection diesel engines. In this research, we analyzed the electrical and mechanical characteristics of the piezo actuator through experiments. Current flow and charging voltage of the piezo injector are controlled by the PWM signal of variable duty ratio in order to realize both fast response and low peak current. The optimal switching duty ratio was designed by modeling and analyzing of the piezo driver circuit. In order to avoid resonance and unacceptably long settling time, appropriate frequency range of the PWM signal was derived based on the driver circuit model. The developed injector driver was validated by experiments under various fuel rail pressure, injection duration, and charging voltage.

  • Generally, the conventional battery charging system using an analog method has the large, heavy hardware and low efficiency. Also, it has the disadvantage that it is necessary to replace the control circuit on the basis of the characteristic curve of the specific battery cell. The proposed programmable digital LLC resonant charging system use high efficiency control system(CC-CV), and has characteristic a small hardware and advantage that a digital programming of the voltage, current, and battery capacity characteristics can be flexible. The system proposed the use of Half-bridge LLC resonant converter is possible to improve efficiency and reduce switching losses by using ZVS topology. Further, a constant voltage - constant current(CC-CV) control algorithm apply to the charger which using a buck converter. The performance of the proposed system is demonstrated through experiments.
