Convergence Characteristics of the Crank-Nicolson-Galerkin Scheme for Linear Parabolic Systems

  • This paper is concerned with the investigation on the stability and convergence characteristics of the Crank-Nicolson-Galerkin scheme that is widely being employed for the numerical approximation of parabolic-type partial differential equations. Here, we present the theoretical analysis on its consistency and convergence, and we carry out the numerical experiments to examine the effect of the time-step size △t on the h- and P-convergence rates for various mesh sizes h and approximation orders P. We observed that the optimal convergence rates are achieved only when △t, h and P are chosen such that the total error is not affected by the oscillation behavior. In such case, △t is in linear relation with DOF, and furthermore its size depends on the singularity intensity of problems.

Selective Growth of Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes by Thermal Chemical Vapor Deposition and Their Field Emission Characteristics

  • Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) grown on catalyst dots by thermal chemical vapor deposition were vertically aligned with a high population density. Such densely populated CNTs showed poor field emission characteristics due to the electrical screening effect. We reduced the number density of CNTs using an adhesive tape treatment. For dotpatterned CNTs, the tape treatment decreased the CNT density by three orders of magnitude, drastically improved the turn-on electric field from 4.8 to $1.8V/{\mu}m$, and changed the emission image from spotty to uniform luminescence. We also report long-term emission stability of dot-patterned CNTs by measuring the emission currents with time at different duty ratios.

  • Numerical analysis is applied to model Pt-catalyzed reaction in a micro-scale combustor fueled by butane. The reaction constants of catalytic oxidation are determined from plug flow model with the experimental data. Orders of magnitude between the chemical reaction rate and the mass transfer rate are carefully compared to reveal which mechanism plays a dominant role in the total fuel conversion rate. For various conditions of fuel flow rate and surface temperature, the profiles of Sherwood number are investigated to study the characteristics of the mass transport phenomena in the micro-tube combustor.

항공사 여승무원 유니폼의 색채 특성과 이미지 (The Characteristics and Images of Colors Found in the Stewardess's Uniforms)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics and images of colors in the stewardess's uniforms. For this study, 530 color samples were selected by extracting digital color data by using the Eyedropper Tool of Photoshop 7.0. The RGB color data were transformed into H V/C and the attributes of colors and tones were analyzed. The color images were analyzed with the color image scales of IRI and Shigenobu Kobayashi. As a results, purple-blue(21.7%), neutral(20.9%), red(17.9%) and yellow(10.8%) were found to be the most frequently used colors. In the tone analysis, vivid tone(18.7%) occupied high frequency and the next orders were white(17.4%), dark grayish(12.8%), light(8.5%), dark(8.1%). The color images were focused on dynamic, modern, casual, gorgeous, classic, elegance images in the color image scales of IRI and Kobayashi.

A Study on Singularly Perturbed Open-Loop Systems by Delta Operator Approach

  • In this paper, the open-loop state response of the two-time-scale systems by unified approach using the $\delta$-operator is presented with an example of the aircraft longitudinal dynamics. First, the $\delta$-operator system unifies both the continuous system and the discrete system simultaneously, and the $\delta$-operator approach improves the finite word-length characteristics. This saves more computing time than that of the discrete system. Second, the singular perturbation method by block diagonalization reduces the sizes and orders of the systems. This also reduces the floating-point operations (flops). The advantage of those two approaches is shown by comparing our results with the earlier ones in the illustrative example of the longitudinal motion of F-8 aircraft.

  • The determination of firing order is very significant procedure in initial stage of design for medium speed diesel engine. Generally, the selection of firing order has been accomplished in view of minimum excitation forces condition. In this paper all possible firing orders under the given number of cylinder were considered to decide the optimum. Meanwhile torsional vibration characteristics using the phase vector sum method and minimum excitation force concept were applied. From these results, some superior cases were selected. And then, the torsional vibration response analysis and the resonance characteristics of engine structure were investigated for the final decision.

Electrical Characteristics of Metal/n-InGaAs Schottky Contacts Formed at Low Temperature

  • Schottky contacts on n-In$\_$0.53//Ga$\_$0.47//As have been made by metal deposition on substrates cooled to a temperature of 77K. The current-voltage and capacitance-voltage characteristics showed that the Schottky diodes formed at low temperature had a much improved barrier height compared to those formed at room temperature. The Schottky barrier height ø$\_$B/ was found to be increased from 0.2eV to 0.6eV with Ag metal. The saturation current density of the low temperature diode was about 4 orders smaller than for the room temperature diode. A current transport mechanism dominated by thermionic emission over the barrier for the low temperature diode was found from current-voltage-temperature measurement. Deep level transient spectroscopy studies exhibited a bulk electron trap at E$\_$c/-0.23eV. The low temperature process appears to reduce metal induced surface damage and may form an MIS (metal-insulator-semiconductor)-like structure at the interface.

국내 남부권역 주요 수계 농수로의 어류 군집 특성 (Fish distribution and community characteristics of agricultural waterways in the southern region of Korean watersheds)

  • 본 연구는 국내 주요 수계 중 만경강, 섬진강, 남해권 수계, 탐진강, 영산강, 동진강과 연결된 농수로 어류의 종 조성과 어류 길드 특성, 군집 특성을 분석하였다. 2017년 9월부터 2018년 8월까지 4회에 걸쳐 현지 조사를 시행한 결과, 어류는 농수로에서 6목 11과 53종 3,633개체가 출현하였고 본류에서 9목 15과 57종 7,108개체가 출현했다. 농수로의 우점종과 아우점종은 칼납자루(Tanakia koreensis)와 납자루(T. lanceolata)로 나타났으며, 납자루아과의 어종이 우점하는 지점이 10지점 중 6지점으로 나타났다. 이는 담수성 이매패류의 서식에 기인한다고 사료된다. 그리고 환경부 지정 멸종위기 야생생물 I급 임실납자루(T. somjinensis)가 섬진강 수계의 농수로에서 출현했고, 멸종위기 야생생물 II급 큰줄납자루(Acheilognathus majusculus)와 꺽저기(Coreoperca kawamebari)가 각각 섬진강 수계, 섬진강과 탐진강 수계의 농수로에서 출현했다. 지점별로 어류 길드 분석 결과, 대체로 농수로가 본류보다 낮은 민감종의 비율을 나타냈다. 군집 분석 결과 하상 구조가 복잡하게 나타난 지점에서 비교적 안정적인 군집을 보였으며, 환경적 변수에 따른 분석 결과 하상 구조가 복잡한 농수로 그룹이 높은 다양도 지수와 낮은 우점도 지수를 나타냈다. 결과적으로 본 연구는 농수로의 어류 서식 특성을 나타내고, 향후 연구와 관리의 필요성을 제시했다.

Cu/Ti-cappng/NiSi 전극구조 p+/n 접합의 전기적 특성 (Electrical Characteristics of p+/n Junctions with Cu/Ti-capping/NiSi Electrode)

  • Ti-capped NiSi contacts were formed on $p^+/n$ junctions to improve the leakage problem and then Cu was deposited without removing the Ti-capping layer in an attempt to utilize as a diffusion barrier. The electrical characteristics of these $p^+/n$ diodes with Cu/Ti/NiSi electrodes were measured as a function of drive-in RTA(rapid-thermal annealing) and silicidation temperature and time. When drive-in annealed at $900^{\circ}C$, 10 sec. and silicided at $500^{\circ}C$, 100 sec., the diodes showed the most excellent I-V characteristics. Especially, the leakage current was $10^{-10}A$, much lower than reported data for diodes with NiSi contacts. However, when the $p^+/n$ diodes with Cu/Ti/NiSi contacts were furnace-annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ for 40 min., the leakage current increased by 4 orders. The FESEM and AES analysis revealed that the Ti-capping layer effectively prohibited the Cu diffusion, but was ineffective against the NiSi dissociation and consequent Ni diffusion.

Analysis on Tracking Schedule and Measurements Characteristics for the Spacecraft on the Phase of Lunar Transfer and Capture

  • In this work, the preliminary analysis on both the tracking schedule and measurements characteristics for the spacecraft on the phase of lunar transfer and capture is performed. To analyze both the tracking schedule and measurements characteristics, lunar transfer and capture phases' optimized trajectories are directly adapted from former research, and eleven ground tracking facilities (three Deep Space Network sties, seven Near Earth Network sites, one Daejeon site) are assumed to support the mission. Under these conceptual mission scenarios, detailed tracking schedules and expected measurement characteristics during critical maneuvers (Trans Lunar Injection, Lunar Orbit Insertion and Apoapsis Adjustment Maneuver), especially for the Deajeon station, are successfully analyzed. The orders of predicted measurements' variances during lunar capture phase according to critical maneuvers are found to be within the order of mm/s for the range and micro-deg/s for the angular measurements rates which are in good agreement with the recommended values of typical measurement modeling accuracies for Deep Space Networks. Although preliminary navigation accuracy guidelines are provided through this work, it is expected to give more practical insights into preparing the Korea's future lunar mission, especially for developing flight dynamics subsystem.
