  • This paper describes a simple random signal generator employing by CMOS analog technology in current mode. The system is a nonlinear dynamical system described by a difference equation, such as x(t+1) = f(x(t)) , t = 0,1,2, ... , where f($.$) is a nonlinear function of x(f). The tent map is used as a nonlinear function to produce the random signals with the uniform distribution. The prototype is implemented by using transistor array devices fabricated in a mass product line. It can be easily realized on a chip. Uniform randomness of the signal is examined by the serial correlation test and the $\chi$2 test.

  • It has been shown that many of physiological systems have nonlinear dynamics. The evidences of these nonlinear behaviors make us analyze physiological systems in the new viewpoint. And, some of these nonlinear dynamics can be represented by chaotic behaviors, which is studied by several methods-correlation dimension, return map, power spectrum analysis, etc. This study is on the analysis of nonlinear characteristics of ECG. After data have been acquired from 20 children (10-13 years old), and 30 students (20-24 years old). We have calculated parameters HR, PR, VAT, TD, TRD, TPD from data, and estimated correlation dimension, return map, power spectrum, time series. Results show the nonlinear and chaotic characteristics of ECG.

  • Abstract- In this paper, a new Partial Discharge (PD) detection using Pockels cell was proposed and considerable apparent chaotic characteristics were discussed. For this purpose, PD was generated from needle-plane electrode in air and detecte by optical measuring system using Pockels cell, based on Mach-Zehner interferometer, consisting of He-Ne laser, single mode optical fiber, 50/50 beam splitter and photo detector. In addition, the presence of chaos of the PD signals has been investigated by examining their means of qualitative and quantitative information. For the former, return map and 3-dimensional strange attractor have been drawn in order to investigate the presence of chaotic characteristics relevant to PD signals, detected through CT and Peckels sensor respectively, in the normalized time series. The presence of strange attractor indicates the existence of fractal structures in it's phase space. For the latter, several dimension values of strange attractor were verified sequentially. Throughout this paper, it is likely that the chaotic characteristics regarding the PD signals under air are verified.

  • The dispersion in the oscillatory flow generated by gravitational waves above the spatially periodic repples is studied. The steady parts of equations describing the orbit of the passive particle in a two dimensional field are assumed to be simply trigonometric functions. From the view point of nonlinear dynamics, the motion of the particle is chaotic under externally time-periodic perturbations which come from the wave motion. Two cases considered here are; (i) shallow water, and (ii) deep water approximation.

  • In this paper, a model reference adaptive control for the atomic force microscope (AFM) of tapping mode is investigated. The dynamics between the AFM system and al sample is mathematically modeled as a second order spring-mass-damper system with oscillatory inputs. The attractive and repulsive forces between the tip of the AFM system and the sample are derived using the Lennard-Jones potential energy. By non-dimensionalizing the displacement of the tip and the input frequency, the chaotic behavior near a resonance frequency is better depicted through the non-dimensionalized equations. Four nonlinear analysis techniques, a phase portrait, sensitive dependence on initial conditions, a power spectral density function, and a Pomcare map are investigated. Because the equations of motion derived in this paper involve unknown parameter values such as the damping effect of the air and the interaction constants between materials, the standard model reference adaptive control is adopted. Two control objectives, the prevention of chaos and the tracking of reference signal, are pursued. Simulation results are included.

  • In the map of period-doubling bifurcation, stable fixed points bifurcate to $2^n$ fixed points, and in the chaotic region, the chaotic bands merge to 1/$2^n$ bands. In a typical map, the chaotic bands expand to a broad chaotic band during the merging process, so called crisis. In this paper, interior crises appearing during the merging process will be discussed by using our map and will be analyzed the characteristics of the phenomenon by obtaining the Lyapunov Exponents.

  • The RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) system is a technology to discern things by radio and an epoch-making new method to improve product management such as distribution, transport, mobilization, inventory control. However, RFID, which uses radio, is at risk for information leakage and falsification due to the vulnerability of security of the communication section. We designed the new authentication protocol by applying the tent map, which is the representative complex systems, to the RFID communication system. A more solid and simple authentication system was designed by applying the initial value sensitivity and irregularity, which are the representative characteristics of the complex system, to the reader and tag of RFID. The purpose of this paper is to verify the usability of the RFID authentication protocol design that uses the nonlinear system shown in this thesis by the new system differentiated from the authentication system that depends on the existing hash function or random numbers.

  • Highly dispersive S-boxes are desirable in cryptosystems as nonlinear confusion sublayers for resisting modern attacks. For a near optimal cryptosystem resistant to modern cryptanalysis, a highly nonlinear and low differential probability (DP) value is required. We propose a method based on a piecewise linear chaotic map (PWLCM) with optimization conditions. Thus, the linear propagation of information in a cryptosystem appearing as a high DP during differential cryptanalysis of an S-box is minimized. While mapping from the chaotic trajectory to integer domain, a randomness test is performed that justifies the nonlinear behavior of the highly dispersive and nonlinear chaotic S-box. The proposed scheme is vetted using well-established cryptographic performance criteria. The proposed S-box meets the cryptographic performance criteria and further minimizes the differential propagation justified by the low DP value. The suitability of the proposed S-box is also tested using an image encryption algorithm. Results show that the proposed S-box as a confusion component entails a high level of security and improves resistance against all known attacks.

  • In this paper, we propose 128-bit chaotic block encryption scheme using a PLCM(Piecewise Linear Chaotic Map) having a good dynamical property. The proposed scheme has a block size of 12n-bit and a key size of 125-bit. The encrypted code is generated from the output of PLCM. We show the proposed scheme is very secure against statistical attacks and have very good avalanche effect and randomness properties.
