  • Transmit signal of Enhancement Layer in AT-DMB system is received by Coherent Detection, but in Base Layer of AT-DMB, a differential modulation and demodulation is adopted, same as the T-DMB. Especially for the coherent dectection of enhancement layer in AT-DMB system, a channel estimation must be employed. In this paper, I will show that the BER performance of Base-Layer in AT-DMB system will be improved by using the channel estimation information. The suggested method is focusing the constallations after Equalizaing to the nearlest ${\pi}$/4-shift DQPSK constallation points. Simulation results show that for the non-coding environment, the BER performance of AWGN channel, about 2-dB gain can be achieved at $10^{-4}BER$.

  • Transparency has been considered as a performance measure in bilateral teleoperation system. Therefore, many issues of transparency have been studied. This paper investigates the transparency in two-channel control architectures. At first, we show the feasibility using analytic transparency-conditions and present the two classes of two-channel control architecture, which are perfectly transparent under ideal situation. In addition, remedies to problems due to impedance model estimation errors under real situation are introduced. They are as fellows; design guideline of control parameters to reduce the effect of model estimation error effect and introduction of time delay estimation for unknown dynamics. From these analyses, the systematic control scheme, which is stable and well transparent under real implementation, is proposed in two-channel control architecture. Finally, the proposed scheme is applied to a 2 D.O.F master-slave system and the experimental results show the validity of the theoretical work.

  • In this paper, the channel estimation and pilot sequence design technique of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems in multi-cell environments are studied for situations in which the inter cell interference (ICI) is the dominant channel impairment. We design pilot sequence aiming at minimizing mean square error and propose the channel estimation technique correspond to the designed pilot sequences. The proposed pilot sequences employ the sequences with good correlation properties such as Chu sequence and through simulations, it is shown that channel estimation algorithm using designed pilot sequence is effective for mitigating the ICI.

  • Combining multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) with a massive number of transmit antennas (massive MIMO-OFDM) is an attractive way of increasing the spectrum efficiency or reducing the transmission energy per bit. The effectiveness of Massive MIMO-OFDM is strongly affected by the channel state information (CSI) estimation method used. The overheads of training frame transmission and CSI feedback decrease multiple access channel (MAC) efficiency and increase the CSI estimation cost at a user station (STA). This paper proposes a CSI estimation scheme that reduces the training frame length by using a novel pilot design and a novel unitary matrix feedback method. The proposed pilot design and unitary matrix feedback enable the access point (AP) to estimate the CSI of the signal space of all transmit antennas using a small number of training frames. Simulations in an IEEE 802.11n channel verify the attractive transmission performance of the proposed methods.

  • In this paper, a channel estimation method by orthogonalizing of the time domain training signal in MIMO-OFDM systems is proposed. It has shown that Jeon's method[8] cannot be directly used in 4 Tx antenna MIMO-OFDM systems since the delayed Rx signals interfere the orthogonal property of the time domain training signals. As a possible solution to the problem, in this paper, a guard interval is inserted into the center of the training signals so that the orthogonal property between the Rx training signals can be maintained. It is shown by using computer simulations that the proposed method can estimate the channel response in time domain in 4 Tx antenna MIMO-OFDM systems.

  • The paucity of pilot signals in Massive MIMO system is a vital issue. To accommodate substantial number of users, pilot signals are reused. This leads to interference, resulting in pilot contamination and degrades channel estimation at the Base Station (BS). Hence, mitigation of pilot contamination is exigency in Massive MIMO system. The proposed Time Shifted Pilot Signal Transmission with Pilot signal Hopping (TSPTPH), addresses the pilot contamination issue by transmitting pilot signals in non-overlapping time interval with hopping of pilot signals in each transmission slot. Hopping is carried by switching user to new a pilot signal in each transmission slot, resulting in random change of interfering users. This contributes to the change in channel coefficient, which leads to improved channel estimation at the BS and therefore enhances the efficiency of Massive MIMO system. In this system, Uplink Signal Power to Interference plus Noise Power Ratio (SINR) and data-rate are calculated for pilot signal reuse factor 1 and 3, by estimating the channel with Least Square estimation. The proposed system also reduces the uplink Signal power for data transmission of each User Equipment for normalized spectral efficiency with rising number of antennas at the BS and thus improves battery life.

  • In this paper, we proposed Channel Transfer Function estimation based on Delay and Doppler Profile for underwater acoustic OFDM communication system. It improved the estimation accuracy of the channel transfer function by linear time interpolation the change of Scattered Pilot (SP) insertion frequency in the time direction and the time by Delay and Doppler profile that analyzes the multipath situation of the channel investigated the performance of interpolation by simulation and report it. Previous works is inserted SP every 4 OFDM. It was effective under the environment without multipath, but it has observed that the effect of CTF compensation has been lowered in multipath channel condition. In addition to be better when inserted SP every 2 OFDM. But the amount of sending data will be decrease. Therefore, we conducted research to improve 4 OFDM with new interpolator. A computer simulation was performed as a comparison of SP inserted every 4 OFDM, SP inserted every 2 OFDM, and 4 OFDM with new interpolator. the performance of the proposed system is overwhelmingly improved, and the performance is slightly improved even 64 QAM.

  • This paper deals with the problem of channel identification for Single Input Multiple Output (SIMO) slow fading channels using clustering algorithms. Due to the intrinsic memory of the discrete-time model of the channel, over short observation periods, the received data vectors of the SIMO model are spread in clusters because of the AWGN noise. Each cluster is practically centered around the ideal channel output labels without noise and the noisy received vectors are distributed according to a multivariate Gaussian distribution. Starting from the Markov SIMO channel model, simultaneous maximum ikelihood estimation of the input vector and the channel coefficients reduce to one of obtaining the values of this pair that minimizes the sum of the Euclidean norms between the received and the estimated output vectors. Viterbi algorithm can be used for this purpose provided the trellis diagram of the Markov model can be labeled with the noiseless channel outputs. The problem of identification of the ideal channel outputs, which is the focus of this paper, is then equivalent to designing a Vector Quantizer (VQ) from a training set corresponding to the observed noisy channel outputs. The Linde-Buzo-Gray (LBG)-type clustering algorithms [1] could be used to obtain the noiseless channel output labels from the noisy received vectors. One problem with the use of such algorithms for blind time-varying channel identification is the codebook initialization. This paper looks at two critical issues with regards to the use of VQ for channel identification. The first has to deal with the applicability of this technique in general; we present theoretical results for the conditions under which the technique may be applicable. The second aims at overcoming the codebook initialization problem by proposing a novel approach which attempts to make the first phase of the channel estimation faster than the classical codebook initialization methods. Sample simulation results are provided confirming the effectiveness of the proposed initialization technique.

  • To locate an object accurately in the wireless sensor networks, the distance measure based on time-delay plays an important role. In this paper, we propose a maximum likelihood (ML) time-delay estimation algorithm in multi-path wireless propagation channel. We get the joint probability density function after sampling the frequency domain response of the multi-path channel, which could be obtained by the vector network analyzer. Based on the ML criterion, the time-delay values of different paths are estimated. Considering the ML function is non-linear with respect to the multi-path time-delays, we first obtain the coarse values of different paths using the subspace fitting algorithm, then take them as an initial point, and finally get the ML time-delay estimation values with the pattern searching optimization method. The simulation results show that although the ML estimation variance could not reach the Cramer-Rao lower bounds (CRLB), its performance is superior to that of subspace fitting algorithm, and could be seen as a fine algorithm.

  • Direct-conversion receivers often suffer from a DC-offset that is a by-product of the direct conversion process to baseband. In general, a basic approach to reduce the DC-offset is to do simple average of the baseband signal and remove the DC by subtracting the average. However, this gives rise to a residual DC offset which degrades the performance when the receiver adopts the coding schemes with high coding rates such as 8-PSK. Therefore, more advanced methods should be additionally required for better performance. While the training sequences are basically designed to have good auto-correlation properties to facilitate the channel estimation, they may be not good for the simultaneous estimation of the channel response and the DC-offset. Also the DC offset compensation under a bad condition does not give good results due to the estimation error. Correspondingly, the proposed scheme employs the two important points. First, the training sequence codes are divided into two groups by MSE(Mean Squared Errors) for estimating the channel taps and then SNR calculated from each group is compared to predefined threshold to do fine DC-offset estimation. Next, ON/OFF module is applied for preventing performance degradation by large estimation error under severe channel conditions. The simulation results of the proposed scheme shows good performances compared to the existing algorithm. As a result, this scheme is surely applicable to the receiver design in many communications systems.
