The Temporal Changes of Channel Section in Naeseongcheon River, Kyeongbuk Province (경북 내성천 하도 단면의 시계열적 변화)

  • The changes and causes of channel section in Naeseongcheon River, a tributary of Nakdong River, during the long(1984~2001) and short(2009~2011) periods are analyzed. There are the declines of channel height with a maximum of approximately 2m in the most areas of the lower reaches during the past 20 years. These are thought as the influences of active aggregate collections and river dredging. The size of sand bar within the channel at the NM1 decreases greatly during the past 2 years. This may results from the decrease of sediment supply due to the Yeongju Dam construction in the upper reaches. However, the NM2 and NL2 where the natural channel are preserved experience the slight increase of height during the past 2 years. Therefore, the anthropogenic channel interferences in Naeseongcheon River have greatly influenced on the declines of channel height by the decrease of sediment supply.

  • While MOST is an in-vehicle network which transfers concurrently synchronous data, asynchronous data and control data, it provides high bandwidth synchronous section which can transfer video and audio without buffering. To transfer real time data using synchronous section, connections between source node and sink node, and channel allocation for connections are required. In this paper, we proposed synchronous data transfer method and channel allocation method by constructing MOST network after designing and implementing channel allocation module for using synchronous data section.

  • Shear lag phenomenon has long been taken into consideration in various structural codes; however, the AISC provisions have not proposed any specific equation to calculate the shear lag ratio in some cases such as fillet-welded connections of front-to-front double channel sections. Moreover, those equations and formulas proposed by structural codes are based on the studies that were conducted on riveted and bolted connections, and can be applied to single channel sections whilst using them for fillet-welded double channels would be extremely conservative due to the symmetrical shape and the fact that bending moments will not develop in the gusset plate, resulting in less stress concentration. Numerical models are used in the present study to focus on parametric investigation of the shear lag effect on fillet-welded tension connection of double channel section to a gusset plate. The connection length, the eccentricity of axial load, the free length and the thickness of gusset plate are considered as the key factors in this study. The results are then compared to the estimates driven from the AISC-LRFD provisions and alternative equations are proposed.

A Study on Flow Characteristics according to Meandering Low Flow Channel Shape in the Compound Cross Section Typed Straight Channel (복단면인 직선수로 내 사행 저수로의 형태에 따른 흐름특성 연구)

  • In order to examine flow characteristics according to the shape of the meandering low flow channel in the compound cross section typed straight channel, we assumed the representative channel type in Korea and confirmed the validity of the 3D numerical simulation by carrying out the hydraulic model. Based on this study, numerical simulations were also conducted on other types of river channel. As a result of the numerical model test (using the velocity value measured by the water depth observation from the hydraulic model test), it was confirmed that the numerical simulation results are in good agreement with the numerical simulation results. As a result of analyzing the flow field according to the changes in the shape of the low flow channel, it was confirmed that the secondary flow examined in the previous studies occurred. Also, it was confirmed that the maximum flow velocity point moves according to the expansion cross sectional area of flow in high flow plain. Ultimately, it is thought that it is necessary to understand the position of the water impingement (which is an important factor in river design) and the extent of the impact because the change of the channel width affects the flow.

Perturbation Analysis of Stokes Flow in Porous Medium (다공성 매질의 내부유동에 관한 섭동해석)

  • In this study, flow in a porous medium is analyzed using a computer-extended perturbation series solution. The flow is modelled as a creeping flow in a periodically constricted channel. The channel walls have a sinusoidally varying width and the flow is analyzed in terms of its vorticity and stream functions in the Stokes flow regime. The perturbation series in terms of a small parameter, average width to length ratio, is extended with a computer resulting in purely asymptotic series and Pade summation is used to obtain final results. Resulting flow shows flow separations in the widening section and immobile zones in the widest section of the flow regime with reattachment in the narrowing section. Analysis of the flow separation phenomena resulted in a correlation between the two geometric parameters of the channel walls to predict the onset of flow separation in the Stokes flow regime.

Analysis for Difference of Water Surface Elevation at Cross Section in Pyungchang River Contained Junction Using Hydraulic Model (수리모형을 이용한 평창강 합류구간의 횡단면 수위차 분석)

  • In this study, hydraulic model same as natural channel with junction area and curved reach is constructed, and after that the variation of difference of the water surface elevation at cross section in junction area is analyzed using constructed hydraulic model. In junction area, the variation of maximum water level based on downstream section is more affected in discharge ratio at upstream than downstream. The maximum water level increased as closed to junction and the peak level appeared at just downstream of junction. The slope of water elevation at cross section is affected in section shape and decreased as discharge ratio is reduce. The expressed formulas developed in the channel consist of constant curvature and section shape showed difference of 60% with measured value, but the suggested formula in this study to compute difference of water surface elevation showed difference of 10% with measured value.

An Experimental Study on the Variation of Hydraulic Characteristics due to Vegetation in Open Channel (개수로에서 식생에 의한 수리특성 변화에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • An understanding of the hydraulic characteristics in the compound channel with vegetation is important in designing stream restorations or managing the floodplain. A laboratory flume of 16 m long and 0.8 m wide was used for analysis of the hydraulic characteristics in the single section channel and the compound channel with artificial vegetation. Slope of experimental channel is 0.5 %. Discharges are ranged from $0.2\;m^3/s\;to\;$0.4\;m^3/s$. The experiments were done by changing water depth ratio, vegetation density and vegetation location. When water depth ratio in the single section channel with vegetation increase up to 3.5, the results showed that the increment of water depth due to vegetation may be ignored in practice. The maximum increment of water depth was measured up to 6 % in the compound channel with vegetation and the range of velocities increment in the low flow channel was from 25 % to 85 % compared with section average velocities. As the vegetation densities increase and water depth ratios decrease, the velocity of the low flow channel increased. The range of roughness coefficients in the vegetated reaches were estimated from 0.055 to 0.14 in the single section channel and from 0.063 to 0.085 in the compound channel using HEC-RAS and RMA-2 model.

AN ANALYTICAL DC MODEL FOR HEMTS (헴트 소자의 해석적 직류 모델)

  • Based on the 2-dimensional charge-control simulation[4], a purely analytical model for MODFET's is proposed. In this model, proper treatment of the diffusion effect in the 2-DEG transport due to the gradual channel opening along the 2-DEG channel was made to explain the enhanced mobility and increased thershold voltage. The channel thickness and gate capacitance are experssed as functions of gate vlotage including subthreshold characteristics of the MODFET's analytically. By introducing the finite channel opening and an effective channel-length modulation, the slope of the saturation region of the I-V curves was modeled. The smooth transition of the I-V curves from linear-to-saturation region of the I-V curves was possible using the continuous Troffimenkoff-type of field-dependent mobility. Furthermore, a correction factor f was introduced to account for the finite transtition section forming between the GCA and the saturated section. This factor removes the large discrepanicies in the saturation region fo the I-V curves presicted by existing 1-dimensional models. The fitting parameters chosen in our model were found to be predictable and vary over relatively small range of values.

A Comparison of Flow Condensation HTCs of R22 Alternatives in the Multi-Channel Tube (다채널 알루미늄 평판관내 R22와 R134a의 흐름 응축 열전달 성능 비교)

  • Flow condensation heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) of R22 and R134a were measured on a horizontal 9 hole aluminum multi-channel tube. The main test section in the refrigerant loop was made of a flat multi-channel aluminum tube of 1.4 mm hydraulic diameter and 0.53 m length. Refrigerant was cooled by passing cold water through an annulus surrounding the test section. Data were obtained in the vapor qualities of 0.1∼0.9 at mass flux of 200∼400 kg/$m^2$s and heat flux of 7.3∼7.7 ㎾/$m^2$ at the saturation temperature of 4$0^{\circ}C$. All popular correlations in single-phase subcooled liquid and flow condensation originally developed for large single tubes predicted the present data of the flat tube within 20% deviation when effective heat transfer area is used in determining experimental data. This suggests that there is little change in flow characteristics and patterns when the tube diameter is reduced down to 1.4 mm diameter range. Thermal insulation for the outer tube section surrounding the test tube for the transport of heat transfer fluid is very important in fluid heat-ing or cooling type heat transfer experimental apparatus.

A Study on the Sediment Movement Using Numerical Models (수치모형을 이용한 하상변동 연구)

  • In this study, one and semi-two dimensional numerical models were applied to study on the hydraulic and sedimentologic characteristics of upstream and downstream channel section near the Buyeo intake towers. The HEC-6 model was applied for the simulation of one dimensional sediment movement from 1988 to 1996, and GSTARS model was applied for the simulation of semi-two dimensional sediment movement for the same period. After the verification of accuracy of HEC-6 and GSTARS models, the models were applied again to predict the sediment movement near intake towers from 1988 to 2001. In this case, measured channel section of 1988 was used as an initial channel condition, and used to predict the long-term variation of channel section of 2001 after 13 years since 1988. The simulation results show that the channel bed is sedimented and eroded repeatedly in the main channel of overall study area, and that channel bed is getting elevated in the near Buyeo intake towers.
