As the need for predicting the flood stage of river from torrential downpouring caused by climate change is increasingly emphasized, the study, centered on the area of Gangwon-do Inje-gun and Jeongseon-gun of local river, is to develop peak water level regression equation by rainfall. Through the correlation between rainfall and peak water level, it is confirmed that rainfall according to duration and peak water level have a high correlation coefficient. Based on this, a relational expression of rainfall and peak water level is verified and then the adequacy of the calculated expression is analyzed and the result shows that a very accurate prediction is not easy to achieve but a rough prediction of the change of water level at each point is possible.
Groundwater monitoring data from the National Groundwater Monitoring Stations, a total of 320 stations, were analyzed to identify the response of water level and quality to the Odaesan earthquake (M4.9) occurred in January 2007. Among the total of eight stations responded to the earthquake, five wells showed water-level decline, and in three wells, water level rose. In terms of recovery, water levels in four stations had recovered to the original level in five days, but not in the rest four wells. The magnitude of water-level change shows weak relations to the distance between the earthquake epicenter and the groundwater monitoring station. However, the relations to the transmissivities of monitored aquifer in the station with the groundwater change were not significant. To implement the earthquake monitoring system through the groundwater monitoring network, we still need to accumulate the long-term monitoring data and geostatistically analyze those with hydrogeological and tectonic factors.

This study measured the change of media properties using Time domain Reflectometry (TDR) and Tensionmeter (TM) to measure volumetric water content of soil affecting in land subsidence and pollutant diffusion under saturation/unsaturated condition by water-level fluctuations. Also, actual water content compared their changes aspect by dry oven test for quantitative determinations of these measured values. In the case of TM, initial unsaturated condition confirmed that range in dimension of each other different according to their establishment depth, but measured values of TM can know that is shown measured value in almost similar measuring range under drain condition after the first injection. Also, the results of TDR showed that can measure enough change of volumetric water content in saturation/unsaturated condition by water-level fluctuations. Therefore, we are judged that TDR measurement equipment is very effective to measure the variations of volumetric water content and water-level being caused in groundwater level fluctuations.

The objective of this study is to identify whether or not the ground water level is decreasing. We suggest a method of estimating the change in groundwater level using newly developed groundwater pumping station data. The Goseong area located in Gyeongnam province was selected considering three factors. First, this area demands relatively large amount of irrigation water because most of the land is used as a paddy field and the proportion of the paddy field within total arable land is increasing. Second, groundwater level data in nearby area are available since these are monitored by Water Management Information System (WAMIS). Third, many groundwater pumping stations have been developed in this area in order to overcome droughts thus detail information for pumping stations are available. Regression results indicate groundwater level has been decreased for over 20 years. This decreasing trend is due to the shortage of surface irrigation water which was caused by the decrease in rainfall.

A fuel tank contains water at the bottom under the fuel. The water comes from humidity by temperature change of inside and outside of tank. So it is necessary to measure both level to check precise amount of oil. But measuring instrument for level of water and fuel is not available yet. Since the fuel is inflammable, the sensor system must not include any electric circuits in the fuel tank. Optical cable sensor can satisfy this non-explosive condition. The displacement of a float changing by water level makes bending curvature of optical cable different. As the float rise up, the optical cable is bent more and the light signal in the cable decreases. The reduction of light signal is detected and it is converted into the change of water level. The output signal from a photo diode shows the proportional relation of water level. The increase of sensor voltage as a unit of ㎷ follows the level position of the float that is located between water and gasoline in the tank.
This study was performed to monitor the effects of water level change on changes of landscape, vegetation community, and species diversity of riparian forest. Hantan river dam, study area, has been constructed in the area of Chansoo-myeon, Pocheon-si and Yeoncheon-eup, Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi-do, which is a dam for flood control only in flooding season. Landscape changes were notable after the construction of coffer dam, and the changes were caused by water level increase in areas of riparian forests which consisted of mainly withered willow as a dominant species in the flooding season. It changed vegetation communities of riparian forest from Phragmites japonica and Salix koreensis to Phragmites japonica. Species diversity index was lowest in 2010 when the coffer dam was constructed and showed an increasing trend later. Thus, this study is well in agreement with a previous report that plants of the genus Salix wither by muddy water during flooding and also suggests, controlling water level of river and prediction of water level change's effects should be considered when any facilities are planned.
Water level of the Tonle Sap is largely influenced by the Mekong River. During the wet season, the lacustrine landform and vegetated areas are covered with water. Change detection in this area provides information required for human activities and sustainable development around the Tonle Sap. In order to detect the changes in the Tonle Sap floodplain, fifteen ALOS-PALSAR L-band data acquired from January 2007 to January 2009 and examined in this study. Since L-band is able to penetrate into vegetation cover, it enables us to study the changes according to water level of floodplain developed in the rainforest. Four types of images were constructed and studied include 1) ratio images, 2) correlation coefficient images, 3) texture feature ratio images and 4) multi-color composite images. Change images (in each 46 day interval) extracted from the ratio images, coherence images and texture feature ratio images were formed for detecting land cover change. Two RGB images are also obtained by compositing three images acquired in the early, in the middle and at the end of the rainy season in 2007 and 2008. Combination of the methods results that the change images present the relationship between vegetation and water level, leaf fall forest as well as cultivation and harvest crop.
The change of water level at Mokpo Harbour and its adjacent coastal area due to the construction of the Youngsan Estuary Barrage and the Third Land Reclamation Work of estuary barren had been roughly expected. Periodical floods, which occur 2 times per month, are also being observed at the low lying commercial areas near the Mokpo Old Harbor. Although it is said that the highest tidal current component among the tidal current records at the approaching channel to Mokpo Harbor is reduced to 6 kts, because of the esturary barrage, they do not give any precise statement or a deep analysis for the flooding and periodical water level change under certain environmental conditions. Moreover, they never tried the analysis of development plan considering the natural disaster such as typhoon or other extreme conditions. Thus, it is necessary to collect and analyze the data related to floodings, harbor oscillations, currents, and water quality , etc. because of the development considering the extreme condition. Thus, it is necessary to collect and analyze the data related to floodings, harbor oscillations, currents, and water quality, etc. because of the development considering the extreme condition and to evaluate the field observation and measurement, including the numerical model simulation based on the scientific approaches. This study deals the problem of the water level change among the integrated analyses of the coastal area changes. The result can be used for the integrated planning to give a strong foundation and it will contribute to the development of local area.
Numerical Analysis for exchanging seawater experiment is carried out in Do-Jang fish port. The change of tidal velocity and water level is derived by the two-dimensional nonlinear shallow-water numerical model. To calculate exchange rate of seawater with the change of tidal velocity and water level, a two-dimensional numerical model is employed which governing equations are Fokker-Plank equations. The calculated exchange rates of each time are described in tables and figures.

A new method is used to estimate the amount of water evaporation from Class A Pan with higher precision and accuracy. The principle of method is to detect the weight change of a buoyant sinker resulting from a change in water level of Class A Pan. A strain-gauge load cell is used to measure the weight change. Field observation of evaporation was done at Pohang Meteorological Station from June 24 to August 4, 2002. By using this new method, it is possible to measure hourly evaporation accurately even under a strong solar radiation and wind disturbance, enabling a direct comparison of evaporation with other meteorological elements. At night, under low humidity and high wind speed conditions, more evaporation was recorded than during daytime. Maximum evaporation rates observed during this period exceed 1.0 mm/hour under the sunny and windy conditions with low humidity. To understand relationships between meteorological elements and latent heat flux at ground level, we suggest intensive held experiments using high accuracy evaporation recording instruments with hourly time interval.
