  • Korean urban traditional housing abandoned by the social apathy promptly disappearing form our sight, or ruining. It tells that the strategies we are using today are impossible to fulfill socio-economic needs of residents here. So it needed to find out the strategies which can change this place better to live in. Consolidating the street parking lots fer cars can be one of the important solutions to the area. By using cul-de-sac, after setting up small unit of communities, we will have chance to have a small public space, and at the same time it can help to set up our tradition of people's intimacy inside the community. Most people have their own cars, and the need of parking lots becomes more serious. So, a meeting place like public well in the past must replace parking lots. On the other hand, it is important to re-consolidate existing land to obtain appropriate land size for other uses. Today, the use of private space (house, private lots, etc..)and public space(streets, local offices) is very important. NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) attitude should also be reconsidered. All these negative social aspects come from negative social relationship, thus we should consider them with care and deep understandings. The traditional housing of Korea should not be abandoned as slum, but this should be transformed in terms of the conservation since it is superior in its ecological and energy conservation aspect.

  • The factors to limit interior circumstance and the expression of the space start In the point how to provide the order in the interior space according to the intention of design. The controlling of the natural and artificial surroundings should be focused by synthesizing and analyzing the condition of circumstance, function, and emotion to provide the comfortable room to a customer in a fitness center. A fitness center aiming at the future requires various function according to it's role depending on the change of the social values. In addition, the fitness center reflecting the various regional culture according to the change of values requires the expansion of the cultural and life space. The characteristics of fitness space like this affects the mental effect of a customer with the color and quality of the materials suitable for the characteristics of grouping, continuity, symbolism, and generation as well as the unification in the total design and the simplicity of maintenance and management. The paper aims to extract factors related to the circumstance plan of the interior and to suggest it's application in the interior design. The design applicable to the circumstance plan of the interior will keep changing according to the social change and the change of the understanding along with the factors. The continuous research on the interior circumstance planning of a fitness center could be approach to develop in a systematic method and the paper will be expected to be a little step toward it.

  • It is true that the social welfare center influences on the community service. The recent change of social environment has influence on the configuration of space for the community social welfare center. The social welfare center fills the role of family welfare, domiciliary care, community welfare, education culture etc. Education culture magnified, and it is acting role as the community education culture center by various program including cultural desire according to the modern request to the whole local resident. In such sense, this study explore the conditions of spatial configuration for the education culture unit of social welfare center in small city. For this study, it was investigated the space role and service funtion, the service program, the usage characteristics, the service importance. In sum, the useful data were collected, analyzed, and colligated by case study. Case study and analysis contents about education culture unit of social welfare center present the basic design data for the space plan of suitable social welfare center in small city.

  • Our school management is changing by soft and self-regulating method from single educational system. Especially, 7th educational curriculum demands change of educational system and operation that correspond spontaneously on various needs of students. Like this, changing educational policy and curriculum accompany change of social awareness, curriculum, and school space should be changed corresponding hereupon. Such our change can say that is appearing fairly similarly, when compare in Japanese educational policy, curriculum, side of change of school space. Because it is resulting from partial accepting of educational curriculum, system, school architecture and space of Japan. In such background, I investigates Japanese schools cases that advanced than us, which is been opened within the latest 6 years. Through this analysis, I find space and function that can apply to our school. And I will propose some basic data needed for educational and architectural planning side.

  • Restaurant is a settign for est and social intercousrse fo rpeople in the cities, and is essential to provide its users with pleasant and comfort space. Color is used as a design tool which has most powerful effect to change the nature of a space and atmosphere, As a basic study for desirable environmental color for restaurant, this is studied mainly on the following discussion points. 1) Inportance of environmental color and its role in accordance with space characteristics as restaurant. 2) The psychological effects of color in the clinetes, color conditioning of the dining ares, problem of change in the appearance of color in the selection of materials and color harmony of total environments. 3) Prior to color planning in detail , the nature and characteristics each restaurant contains and their correlation with various locational , physical , social environmental , human variables have been analyzed. And the total atmosphere of the dining area as a place where the clients finally stay has been dealt with various visual , environmental and functional problems of color about fixed elements such as the wall. the floor, the ceiling and semifixed elements such as tables, chairs, etc.

An Adverse Social Welfare Effect of Quadruply Gainful Trade

  • Acknowledging that individuals dislike having low relative income renders trade less attractive when seen as a technology that integrates two economies by merging separate social spheres into one. We define a "trembling trade" as a situation in which gains from trade are less than losses in relative income, with the result that global social welfare is reduced. We show that a "trembling trade" can arise even when trade is more gainful in four ways: through trade the absolute income of everyone increases, the income gap in both economies is reduced, as is the income gap between the trading economies. However, trade brings populations, economies, or markets that were not previously connected closer together in social space. As a consequence, separate social spheres merge, and people's social space and their comparators are altered. Assuming that people like high (absolute) income and dislike low relative income, the aggregate increase in unhappiness caused by the trade-induced escalation in relative deprivation can result in a negative overall impact of trade on (utilitarian-measured) social welfare, if the absolute income gains are not large enough to mitigate the relative income losses.

  • Residential space can be stated as a decisive body compositely affected by environmental, physical, social, and cultural influences. Resulting from this idea, residential space can be defined as a mirror reflecting peoples' life at that period. Therefore, it is possible to understand the social and cultural aspects of a certain era through analyzing the residential space built and used at that period. Viewing from this point, latter term of Chosun Period, as a transitional period, was a tie of collapse for the structure of middle-class society forcing its identity system to be reorganized, and of improving upon commerce, agriculture, and manual industry to enable modernization. Following this idea, the goal of this research is to analyze characteristics of higher middle class residences built at the close of 19th century in Gyeonggi province in order to bring into light the change of social structure of the period.

  • Recent studies show that social networking within community is becoming more valuable than individualism, and many discussions of importance of social networking are taking place. In architectural term, the ultimate goal of designing public community space is to increase retention of people. Retention of people, in other words, making people "Stay Longer" is not exactly same as "The purpose of Public Community Space", but it is one of the most effective methods to increase retention of people. An attempt of increasing retention of user through offering public community space suggests a significant change in spatial composition of Herman Hertzberger's cultural space as they are becoming a new social interaction trend. This study aims to analyze architectural progress for the implementation of public of Herman Hertzberger's cultural project. Access. The Characteristics of public community space used in cultural space were extracted and organized into the systemized elements. The systemized elements are comfort, connect, continuity, sphere, transition, and abide. Also, the extracted elements were activated Herman Hertzberger's cultural space and processed the his architectural characteristics.

  • Since a private museums started in Europe 17C, many private museums established for high-class people like aristocrats to collect and to keep art works and to appreciate for limited members. After the French Revolution in 18C, the publicity became an important social issue through all European regions, and the museum gradually changed into public ones. Like that, as the concept of museum changed, its social role as well as its function was also changed. The concept of collection and display or preservation changed into the concept of exhibition and appreciation featuring the publicity. With the year-round exhibition, a classical concept, the planned-exhibition, a new active concept set as an important factor for a museum's projects. The latter concept embraces new social issues. Therefore as the space for planned-exhibitions reflecting social issues every season was needed, a museum sets its planned-exhibition space with the changeability, and gradually expands this kind of space in size. It is expected that planned-exhibition spaces characterized as the changeability may give some changes on the flow of a museum's overall space, and may have substantial influences on the flow. To recognize the changes in a planned-exhibition space's influence on the museum, this study selected some national, public museums having the planned-exhibition space, and investigated their influences on each museum's overall space structure through the analysis on space syntax. This study assumed the change of planned-exhibition space as the changes in the number of convex spaces, and measured it. And to understand the planned-exhibition's changes on a museum's overall spaces, such changed assumed as the numeric changes in convex spaces and measured them. In addition, the numeric changes's influence on the overall space structure was analyzed by measuring the overall space's average integration level. Through the above two factors, the 3 research methodologies and analyzed results were drawn out.

  • The constant evolution of society, culture and scientific technology, coupled with changes in life style and behavioral patterns, has led mankind to peroeive diverse needs for space. Particularly, the rapid structural change in the field of marketing has entailed changes in techinques for construction and presentation of space for an improved marketing environment. To satisfy such new, diverse needs for space, interior designers will have to redefine the "mankind and environmen( concept and examine their design methodology anew. The question of how to design available space for a certain purpose will remain a daunting task for designers in the future, as it has been in the past. In the pursuit of convenience and conformity to mankind's surroundings, every nation has, in common with other nations, basic design elements, design skills and other factors. In designing camercial space in a particular region, it is essential, however, to have a proper understanding of the social economic and cultural context indigenous to that region, as well as the impact on environmental and ecological change and marketing strategy. This study discusses design metholdology for the comming camercial space on the basis of the space concept and current status in Korea, with major emphasis on Korea's regional characteristics.
