The study was to investigate whitening and antioxidation effects by determining the tyrosinase inhibition activity, DPPH radical scavenging and superoxide dismutase like activity of essential oils from Cryptomeria japonica and Chamaecyparis obtusa. The aim of the present study was to suggest preliminary data for research whitening and anti-oxidant effects material of C. japonica and C. obtusa essential oils and confirm supplementary worth of natural volatile organic compounds (nVOCs). Essential oils of C. japonica and C. obtusa leaves were extracted by steam distillation method of clevenger type, and nVOCs were extracted by high-temperature reactor for utilizing nVOCs condensates released during drying of C. japonica and C. obtusa at 80, 100, and $120^{\circ}C$ temperature conditions, respectively. In the activity of whitening and antioxidation, C. japonica oil was more effective than C. obtusa oil. nVOCs of C. japonica and C. obtusa showed highly activity of tyrosinase inhibitory at higher temperature. Antioxidation activity only shown on nVOCs of C. japonica produced at $120^{\circ}C$.
In this study, essential oils were extracted from the leaf of Chamaecyparis obtusa (CLEO), indigenous to Korea, CLEO constituents were analysed, and the effects of CLEO on airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) and airway inflammation (AI) were investigated in Ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthma mouse model. Terpenoid components among identified CLEO constituents made up more than 80%. The CLEO-treated group in comparison to the control group showed reduced AHR, the decrease of eosinophil number in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), reduced specific anti-OVA IgE level in the serum, and a significant reduction in Th2 cytokines levels in the BALF with concentration. We concluded that CLEO have an alleviating effect on asthma-like symptoms such as AHR and AI. Further studies about antiasthmatic effect are necessary on the focus of single component of CLEO.
The principle purpose of this research is to figure out whether the inhalation of Wood Essential oil (Chamaecyparis obtusa) affect not only human beings' concentration for surroundings but also change as to status of feelings. total number of subjects for this experimental are determined to be 66 (men 44 and women 22) among 85 adults who agreed to participate in this experiment after excluding 19 participants who were not able to smell scent due to flu and nasal inflammation. After both experimental group and control group being measured referring to their status of mood such as concentration, depression, vigor, fatigue, confusion, tension and anger, the experimental group is offered to get a piece of cotton that includes Wood Essential oil and they are asked to inhale it for 5 min. On the other hand, control group is offered to wait for the experimental group finishing inhaling wood Essential oil for 5 min. After 5 min, the status of mood from both groups were measured again. simultaneously, I conducted a survey targeting experimental group to see what their preferences are like regarding scent of wood essential oil. The experiment shows that the status of experimental group's concentration is improved about 0.94 point when compared to control group's. Moreover, Total mood disturbance is lower than control group's. Therefore it is proved that the inhalation of wood Essential oil alleviates overall status of mood. according to the analyses result of favor to scent for wood essential oil from experimental group, some of them who were positive got much better improvement when it comes to concentration and far more relieved on their feelings than those who weren't. Based from this result, it is definitely confirmed that there is a Phytoncide's psychophysiological effect which transcends the Placebo Effect generated by Phytoncide's positive image.
Volatile flavor compounds of Chamaecyparis obtuse essential oil were extracted by simultaneous steam distillation extraction (SDE) and supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and analyzed by GC-MS. A total of 48 and 50 components were identified in essential oil by SDE and SFE, respectively. Monoterpenes, oxygenated monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, oxygenated sesquiterpenes, and diterpenes in essential oil by SDE were 37.24, 10.9, 9.61, 0.22, and 0.22%, respectively. In the case of SFE, they were 19.1, 23.3, 22.66, 1.31, and 10.57%, respectively. Antioxidant activities were increased with the increase of essential oil up to $80{\mu}L/mL$, irrespective of extraction method. Especially, when the essential oil concentration extracted by SDE was increased from 20 to $80{\mu}L/mL$, the antioxidant activity was increased from 10.5 to 55.1%. However, over $80{\mu}L/mL$ of essential oil, an equilibrium state was maintained. In the case of essential oil extracted by SFE, it was decreased compared to that of SDE. For the improvement of atopic dermatitis, various cosmetics such as an ato-cide soap, ato-cide spray, and ato-cide lotion containing essential oil extracted by SFE were tested. About over 90% was useful for the improvement of atopic dermatitis after 4 weeks of clinical trial targeting 40 female adults. These results demonstrate that ato-cide soap, ato-cide spray, and ato-cide lotion containing essential oil extracted by SFE could be used in functional cosmetics.

This study was focused on the comparison of the variations in the yield and chemical composition of Chamaecyparis obtusa leaf oil obtained under different pressure conditions of the supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (SCE), and by hydro-distillation. SCE was carried out varying the pressure in the range of 100~400 bar at $40^{\circ}C$. The chemical composition of C. obtusa leaf oils was determined by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) analysis. The maximum yield of 4.4% (relative to the initial mass of oven dry mass) was obtained in the extraction under 300 bar pressure, which was higher than that of the hydro-distillation method (1.9%). The contents of sesquiterpenes in the extracts obtained by the SCE were higher than those of the essential oils of C. obtusa by the hydro-distillation. The sesquiterpenes in the SCE extracts made up approximately 39%~46% of the total, followed by monoterpenes, diterpene, and lignan. The contents of each constituent in the supercritical carbon dioxide extracts were varied on the extraction pressure. Therefore, these results showed that the extraction condition of SCE had significant effect on the yield of C. obtusa oils and its chemical composition.
This study was to compare the antifungal activitiy of monoterpenes with that of sesquiterpenes, which were major constituents of antifungal active essential oil of Chamaecyparis obtusa, to investigate which constituents had more effective against dermatophytes, and to evaluate the synergistic effect of combination of the antifungal active constituents. The antifungal activities of seven fractions (A, B, C, D, E, F, and G) from C obtusa essential oil by column chromatography were tested against Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Fraction D, E, F, and G were more active than fraction A, B, and C, and their major compounds were mono- and sesquiterpenes analyzed by GC/MS. Borneol, linalool, and ${\alpha}$-terpineol were selected as monoterpenes, and ${\alpha}$-cedrol, nerolidol, and ${\beta}$-eudesmol as sesquiterpenes, respectively. The antifungal activities of the constituents were respectively examined against Trichophyton mentagrophytes (KCTC6077), Microsporum canis (KCTC6591), and Microsporum gypseum. The constituents of sesquiterpenes were more active than those of monoterpenes. By comparing single and combined sesquiterpenes with fraction F containing the higher ratio of sesquiterpenes, combined sesquiterpenes were the most active. This result indicated that there was the synergistic antifungal effect against dermatophytes when sesquiterpenes were combined together.

Natural essential oils showed anti-microbial activity on relatively broad spectrum of bacterial and fungal species. These materials had much more intensive anti-microbial activities than synthetic preservatives on C. albicans, A niger, and P. acnes, especially. In the experimental group, anti-microbial activity was order of tea tree oil (from Melaleuca alternifolia) > methylparaben > phytoncide (from Chamaecyparis obtusa). Also, natural essential oils had anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects. These results suggest that natural essential oils can be useful as good cosmetic ingredients such as natural preservatives and anti-oxidants.
In order to artificially increase the contents of essential oils from 4 different trees by inducing with elicitors, 5 kinds of chemical elicitors and 4 kinds of biotic elicitors were selected. Before treatment, the contents of essential oils from Japanese Cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa), Sawara cypress (Chamaecyparis pisifera), Japanese Red Pine (Pinus densiflora), and Korean Pine (Pinus koraiensis) were 2.0, 1.6, 0.4, and 0.7 percent, respectively, and the maximum content of essential oils from all species were reached in July. By most of elicitors, the essential oil content was generally increased after 6 months later, but some of elicitors did not affect the content of essential oil. Finally, the appropriate inducers for artificially increasing the essential oil were respectively selected depending on each species; Schizophyllum commune Fries for Japanese Red Pine and Japanese Cypress, hydrogen peroxide for Korean Pine, and ${\beta}-pyridone$ for Sawara cypress. Especially, hydrogen peroxide and ${\beta}-pyridone$ could be wide spread inducer for all 4 species.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence and safety of spraying Farm Clean-S (FC-S) containing 70% Chamaecyparis obtusa essential oil on the elimination of red mite in laying hens. In total, 300 laying hens (ISA brown) aged 72 weeks and infected with red mite were assigned to individual cages for five treatments with five replicates for 18 days. Treatments consisted of distilled water (negative control; NC), commercial spray product (positive control; PC), FC-S 0 (original concentration), FC-S 50 (50 times diluted) and FC-S 100 (100 times diluted). The number of red mites, egg production and weight of each group were evaluated daily throughout the whole experimental period. Egg quality and blood biochemical parameters were measured at the end of the experiment. Safety tests were confirmed by feed intake, respiration, lethargy, diarrhea and mortality symptoms after the feeding trial. As the result, more than 80% of red mites were eliminated by the FC-S 0 spray treatment, and FC-S 50 also showed a higher elimination percentage than did PC (P<0.01). However, the elimination effect of the FC-S 100 spray was lower than that of the PC, but higher than that of the NC (P<0.01). These results confirmed that the optimum FC-S dilution rate ranged from 0~50 times with distilled water to eliminate the red mite effectively. The performance, egg quality, blood parameter and safety tests were not significantly different among treatments. Thus, FC-S 0 and FC-S 50 spray treatments can effectively and sustainably control red mite infestations without detrimental effects on the performance, egg quality and plasma biochemical properties of laying hens.
This present study was performed to analyze the efficiency and volatility of a porous film containing $Chamaecyparis$$obtusa$ extract as a method to effectively package food compounds. Phytoncide was contacted the state of gas and showed effective antimicrobial properties. Limonene can be distilled without decomposition as a relatively stable terpene and was one of the extract components. $Chamaecyparis$$obtusa$ essential oil. The optimal solvent composition was a ratio 5:20:0.3 of T-500:ethanol:hardener to effectively manufacture film containing phytoncide essential oil and the minimum antibacterial concentration was 2%. The films were made under different conditions(A-50LF1, A-25SF2, B-50SF1, C-50LF1, C-25SF2 and D-50SF1) containing phytoncide and the amounts of limonene inside the 1-L reaction chamber depending on storage were measured by gas chromatography-mass selective detention. The results showed that the 25SF2(width, 25 mm; length, 20 cm) revealed more amount of limonene compared with 50LF1(width 50 mm, length 20 cm). We confirmed that the gas emission amount showed a better layer on the film side than on the internal film. An effect of film thickness on phytoncide emissions was observed in that the amounts was less than the expectation for a thicker film at the beginning time, but the emitting amounts increased with increasing storage periods. In the storage testing of various films at $35^{\circ}C$ and 70% humidity for 14 days, 25SF2 showed longer preservation compared with that of 50LF in the case of bread. $C.$$obtusa$ essential oil is a useful fresh ingredients, hence, analysis of limonene emission kinetics from various film was helpful to develop films with an optimal antimicrobial effect, and will allow application of such films in food packaging systems.
