Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate genetic toxicity of Cervi pantotrichum Cornu herbal acupuncture solution(CPCHA). Methods : In this study, a series of investigation have been carried out to analyze the effects of Cervi pantotrichum Cornu herball acupuncture solution(CPCHA) on colony forming ability of NIH3T3cells, Hela cells and adrenorectal coloncell for genetic toxicity test. Results and Conclusions : From the above results, it is suggested that Cervi pantotrichum Cornu herball acupuncture solution(CPCHA) was limited 0.5-10ug/ml by test. Cervi pantotrichum Cornu herball acupuncture solution(CPCHA) did not exert the protective role to the genetic toxicity in kinds of cell lines used in this study. From these results, Cervi pantotrichum Cornu herbal aqua-acupuncture solution needs further study to prove it's function in cell culture system.
Objectives : This study was designed to investigate the effects of Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu and Cervi Cornu on the growth of longitudinal bone in the adolescent male rats. Methods : Longitudinal bone growth was measured by fluorescence microscopy. To examine the effects on the growth plate metabolism, the heights of growth plate and the induction of local bone morphogenetic protein-2 were measured. Results : Treatment of Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu significantly enhanced longitudinal bone growth compared with control group. However, Cervi Cornu did not show the significant effects. Conclusion : Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu enhanced longitudinal bone growth and promoted the induction of local bone morphogenetic protein-2 of growth plate in adolescence male rats.
The effects of Gamisoohwabunchungum and Gamisoohwabunchungum plus Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu on rats with nephrosis induced by a single tail-intravenous injection of PAN(puromycin amjnonucleoside), 2.5mg/100g of body weight was evaluated in the present study. The effects of Gamisoohwabunchungum and Gamisoohwabunchungum plus Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu on PAN nephrosis was evaluated by measuring the concentrations of albumin, total protein, total lipid, cholesterol, triglyceride in the serum and the amount of protein in the urin. The results are summarized as follows; 1 In The Gamisoohwabunchungum and Gamisoohwabunchungum plus Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu group as compared to The Control group, The concentrations of albumin and total protein in the serum were significantly increased. 2. In The Gamisoohwabunchungum and Gamisoohwabunchungum plus Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu group as compared to The Control group, The concentrations of total lipid, cholesterol and triglyceride in the serum were significantly decreased 3. In The Gamisoohwabunchungum and Gamisoohwabunchungum plus Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu group as compared to The Control group, The amount of urine protein during 24 hours were significantly decreased . 4. In The Gamisoohwabunchungum plus Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu group as compared to The Gamisoohwabunchungum group, The concentrations of total protein in the serum were significantly increased. 5. In The Gamisoohwabunchungum plus Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu group as compared to The Gamisoohwabunchungum group, The concentrations of cholesterol and triglyceride in the serum were significantly decreased To conclude, it can be inferred that Gamisoohwabunchungum and Gamisoohwabunchungum plus Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu have the effects of improving proteinuria, hypoproteinemia, hyperlipidemia in nephrotic syndrome.

Objectives : The difference of delayed luminescence-biophoton emission was investigated in Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu selected randomly. Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu was used as a tonic in Korean medicine. Methods : Randomly selected samples of Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu were radiated with 150 W metal halide lamp for 1 minute. After radiation, biophoton emissions of each sample were detected by electron multiplication(EM)-charge coupled device camera. The detected biophoton image was calculated with unit of counts per pixel. Results : The average biophoton emissions of delayed luminescence with EM ratio of ${\times}l50\;and\;{\times}250$ were distinguished significantly. The maximum biophoton emissions of delayed luminescence with EM ratio of ${\times}250$ were distinguished significantly. Conclusion : These results suggest that biophoton imaging of Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu could become the meaningful method for the study of differentiation and classification of Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu.
Objective : This study was to investigate the effects of distilled Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture and Zizyphi Spinosi Semen Pharmacopuncture on autonomic nervous system with Heart Rate Variability(HRV). Purpose of the trial was to observe what influence distilled Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture and Zizyphi Spinosi Semen Pharmacopuncture have on the autonomic nervous system. Methods : 60 healthy male volunteers were divided into three groups which consist of two experimental groups such as Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture and Zizyphi Spinosi Semen Pharmacopuncture, and a control group. Study design was a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial. 20 subjects in experimental group were injected distilled Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture at $GB_{21}$(Kyonjong), 20 subjects in other experimental group were injected distilled Zizyphi Spinosi Semen Pharmacopuncture and 20 subjects in control group were injected Normal Saline at $GB_{21}$(Kyonjong). One volunteer of each groups were excluded from analysis because of error during measuring HRV. At the end of the study 57 volunteers completed HRV analysis. HRV was measured by QECG-3:LXC3203(LAXTHA Inc. Korea) at P0, P1, P2, P3, P4, P5 and P6 and its time-course dependent change in each group was analyzed using paired t-test, and the difference of HRV fluctuation among two experimental group and a control was evaluated by one way ANOVA(p<0.05). Results : A. Time Domain Analysis 1. Analysis of Mean HRV, SDNN and Complexity After injection of distilled Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture, Mean HRV was significantly decreased only at 20 minutes after injection. SDNN was significantly increased from 15 minute after injection. Complexity was significantly decreased only at 15 minute after injection. After injection of distilled Zizyphi Spinosi Semen Pharmacopuncture, Complexity was significantly decreased at 10, 15 and 30 minutes after injection. 2. Analysis of HRV index, pNN50 After injection of distilled Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture, pNN50 was significantly decreased at 15, 20 and 25 minutes after injection. Compared with Normal Saline injection, distilled Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture and Zizyphi Spinosi Semen Pharmacopuncture showed significant difference on HRV index and pNN50 at 5 minutes after injection. B. Frequency Domain Analysis 1. Analysis of Ln(TP), Ln(VLF) After injection of distilled Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture, Ln(TP) was significantly increased at 15 and 30 minutes after injection. Ln(VLF) was significantly increased at 10, 15 and 30 minutes after injection. After injection of distilled Zizyphi Spinosi Semen Pharmacopuncture, Ln(VLF) was significantly increased only at 30 minutes after injection. Compared with Normal Saline injection, distilled Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture showed significant difference on Ln(TP) after 5 minutes of injection. Conclusions : Our results suggest that Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture and Zizyphi Spinosi Semen Pharmacopuncture in healthy adult man tend to activate the autonomic nervous system and sympathetic nervous system compared to Normal Saline within normal range.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to observe the effect of Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture at Pyesu($BL_{13}$) on Chronic Cough. Methods : 6 patients with the cough treated with Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture at Pyesu($BL_{13}$), then self-conscious complain rates were studied. Results : There are remarkable improvement in self-conscious complain rate about cough, sputum, sore throat, runny nose, chest pain, fatigue which chronic cough patients complained. Conclusions : Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture is effective to chronic cough.

Methods : 40 healthy male volunteers were divided into two experimental groups, such as Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture group and Bovis calculus Fel Ursi Pharmacopuncture group. Study design was a randomized, double-blind clinical trial. 20 subjects in one experimental group were injected Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture, 20 subjects in other experimental group were injected hydrolyzed Bovis calculus Fel Ursi Pharmacopuncture at GB21(Kyonjong). We measured HRV 7 times : baseline measurement and every 5 minutes for 30 minutes after injection. The SPSS 15.0 for Windows was used to analyze the data by the paired t-test(in group) and independent sample t-test(between the groups). Results A. Time Domain Analysis 1. Analysis of Mean HRV, SDNN and Complexity After injection of Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture, Mean HRV was significantly decreased all the times after injection. SDNN was significantly increased at immediate and 25 minute after injection. Complexity was significantly decreased only at 15 minute after injection. After injection of Bovis calculus Fel Ursi Pharmacopuncture, Mean HRV was significantly decreased all the times after injection. Complexity was significantly decreased at 15 minutes after injection. 2. Ln(HF) was significantly increased all the times after injection. Ln(LF) was significantly increased at 15, 20 and 25 minutes after injection. Ln(VLF) was significantly increased at immediate and 25 minutes after injection. After injection of Bovis calculus Fel Ursi Pharmacopuncture, Ln(TP) was significantly increased at immediately and 25 after injection. Ln(LF) was significantly increased at 20 and 25 minutes after injection. Ln(VLF) was significantly increased at immediate and 25 minutes after injection. Conclusions : We results suggest that Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu Pharmacopuncture and Bovis calculus Fel Ursi Pharmacopuncture in healthy adult men tend to activate the autonomic nervous system and sympathetic nervous system within normal range.
To understand immunopharmacologic effects on Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu, Morindae Officinalis Radix, Cistanches Herba, Curculginis Rhizoma, Epimedii Herba, Eucommiae Cortex, we investigated chinese experimental documents, and we could reach conclusions as follows : 1. The effects on cell-mediated immune system were as follows. 1) The effects on macrophage (1) The herbal medicines promoting to increase the number of WBC in the peripheral blood were Morindae Officinalis Radix, Epimedii Herba and that promoting to reinforce the phagocytic functions of neutrophil was Curculginis Rhizoma. (2) The herbal medicines promoting the phagocytic functions of mononuclear, macrophage were Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu, Cistanches Herba, Eucommiae Cortex. 2) The herbal medicines stimulating the activities of T lymphocytes were Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu, Curculginis Rhizoma, Epimedii Herba, Eucommiae Cortex. 2. The effects on humoral immune system were as follows. 1) The herbal medicines increasing the activity of complement receptor were Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu, Curculginis Rhizoma. 2) The herbal medicines reinforcing immunity of spleen cells were Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu, Cistanches Herba, Epimedii Herba. 3) The herbal medicines promoting proliferation of spleen cells that produce antibody after having been immunized by SRBC were Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu, Cistanches Herba, Epimedii Herba. 3. The herbal medicines, reinforcing immunity on delayed type hypersensitivity were Cervi Pantotrichum Cornu, Cistanches Herba, Eucommiae Cortex. As you know in the many bibliological documents, the studies on the effects of Drugs for Tonifying Yang were started along right lines. Recently the studies on those were accomplished more rapidly and applied many immune diseases. We thought that Drugs for Tonifying Yang could be important immunopotentiators. Therefore we can apply those herbal medicines not only to immune diseases but also inflammatory diseases, senile infirmity and all sorts of tumor.

In order to study the effects of Cervi pantotrichum on hyperlipidemia, we divided the rats into three groups (normal group, control group & sample group) and perfomed the experimental research. Hyperlipidemia rat was induced by olive oil $1m{\ell}$(involved cholesterol 0.05g)/1200g for 10 days. The sample group was administerd the extract of Cervipantotrichum 10.8mg/200g for 5 days. and control group was administerd equal dose of saline. And then we measured the amount of serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol, and phospholipid. Cervi pantotrichum showed decreasing effects on total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and phospholipid level, and increasing effects on HDL-cholesterol level in serum significantly. According to the above results, Cervi pantotrichum showed significant decreasing effects on hyperlipidemia, and it is considered that it is appropriate to apply for hyperlipidemia.
Objectives : The objective of this study is to investigate the suppressing effect of the cervi pantotrichum cornu pharmacopuncture on the expression of iNOS mRNA and production of NO in synoviocytes from artificially arthritis-induced mice. Methods : In vitro test, synoviocytes extracted from a knee joint of a mouse were cultivated, and the herbal extract of cervi pantotrichum cornu($0.4mg/m{\ell}$, $0.6mg/m{\ell}$, $0.8mg/m{\ell}$, and $1.0mg/m{\ell}$) was added into the wells of synoviocytes to suppress the expression of iNOS mRNA and production of NO. In vivo test, each ten mice were allocated into three groups; Normal group, CIA-elicitated group(CIA), and group treated with cervi pantotrichum cornu pharmacopuncture after CIA elicitation(CCA). The extract of cervi pantotrichum cornu was injected into the acupoint of $SP_{10}$ to observe the changes of foot thickness in mice and the suppression of MIF, TNF-$\alpha$, NF-${\kappa}B$ p65, and iNOS. Results : In vitro test, the expression of iNOS mRNA and production of NO were dose-dependently decreased in the wells of synoviocytes treated with PMA. In vivo test, the suppression of MIF, TNF-$\alpha$, NF-${\kappa}B$ p65, and iNOS was clearly shown in the pieces of the synovial joint treated with the extract of cervi pantotrichum cornu. The foot thickness also decreased dose-dependently. Conclusions : It is speculated that the cervi pantotrichum cornu pharmacopuncture can be applicable to the therapy of rheumatoid arthritis by suppressing the expression of iNOS mRNA and production of NO.
