  • Most of the web-based services are provided by a web browser. A web browser receives a text-based web page from the server and translates the received data for the user to view. There are a myriad of add-ons to web browsers that extend browser features. The browser's add-ons may access web pages and make changes to the data. This makes web-services via web browsers are vulnerable to security threats. A web browser stores web page data in memory in the DOM structure. One method that prevents modifications to web page data applies hash values to certain parts in the DOM structure. However, a certain characteristic of web-pages renders this method ineffective at times. Specifically, the user-input data is not pre-determined, and the hash value cannot be calculated prior to user input. Thus the modification to the data cannot be prevented. This paper proposes a method that both detects and inhibits any attempt to change to user-input data. The proposed method stores user-input from the keyboard and makes a comparison with the data transmitted from the web browser to detect any anomalies.

  • Objectives : We developed and proposed a guideline for safety and performance assessment of electric moxibustion apparatus (class II medical device). Methods : We drafted the guideline for safety and performance assessment of electric moxibustion apparatus by referring the existing standards, guidelines and measurement data from commercially available products. Temperature characteristics such as maximum temperature and ramp time, and physical characteristics such as weight, noise and diameter were measured. User friendliness was also evaluated for commercial devices. Results : This guideline only can be applied to the electric moxibustion apparatus where moxa is being heated by electricity for medical proposes. Maximum temperature of higher than $50^{\circ}C$ can be achieved mostly. Ramp rate of temperature seems to be reliable. Control of temperature is needed to be improved. Moxa and its derivative products seem to be regulated for reliable temperature performance for clinical application. Requirements for design and development of electric moxibustion apparatus are suggested : temperature indicator, temperature control and its accuracy, safety measure, surge protection, user friendliness and instruction for use (IFU). Design recommendation of the reduction of noise level and energy loss are suggested for better products. Conclusions : We proposed a guideline for safety and performance assessment of electric moxibustion apparatus to improve the quality of relating products and aid their commercialization by aiming higher industrial competitiveness of the medical device sectors in Korea. Discussion with related institutes such as industry, academy and government is further required. Public hearings also need to be held prior to the establishment of a final guideline and standard.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of thinning on soil properties and seed productivity in the 25-year-old Cryptomeria japonica and 30-year-old Chamaecyparis obtusa seed orchards in which thinning had been performed 4 years prior to the study. To this end, soil properties, cone and seed characteristics, seed production (kg/ha), and nutrient contents in seeds and cones were studied by 4 different thinning intensities (0, 20, 40, and 60%). Soil properties were not significantly different between the two orchards. Meanwhile, electric conductivity, total nitrogen, and $K^+$ concentration in the soil of C. obtusa seed orchard were significantly different among 4 different thinning intensities (p<0.05), while only $Ca^{2+}$ concentration in the C. japonica seed orchard was different (p<0.05). In the C. obtusa seed orchard, cone productivity increased with the increase of thinning intensities (p<0.05), whereas that in the C. japonica seed orchard did not show any significant differences. Both of the two seed orchards showed a tendency that seeds become bigger and heavier with the increase of thinning intensities, but any significant differences were not found. Seed production (kg/ha) in the C. obtusa seed orchard significantly increased with the increase of thinning intensities, while that of the C. japonica seed orchard decreased. Nutrient contents in seeds and cones did not show any significant differences among different thinning intensities in both of the two seed orchards.

  • Nanomaterials have been applied to various fields due to their advantageous characteristics such as high surface area, rapid diffusion, high specific surface areas, reactivity in liquid or gas phase, and a size close to biomacromolecules. Up to date, increased manufacturing and frequently use of the materials, however, revoke people's concerns on their hazard impact including toxicity the materials. Many research groups have carried out different protocols to evaluate toxic effects of nanomaterilas on different organisms, and consequently, nanomaterials are known to cytotoxicity. In this paper, we reviewed some of the most reports on toxic effects of several nanoparticles specifically on bacteria. There are numbers of reports focused on antibacterial effect of nanoparticles based on bacterial cell viability. Therefore, the application of each nanomaterial should be concerned with its toxicity and its toxic effect should be evaluated in terms of concentrations and sizes of the nanomaterials used, prior to use of a nanomaterial.

  • Background : Cancer is a disease that not only places a significant burden on patients clinically but also requires significant expense for diagnosis and treatment. Although the cancer coverage of health insurance has recently been expended, the need for financial assistance among cancer patients and their families is still expected to be significant. In this study, cancer patients' need for financial assistance in Korea was examined and its influence factors were analyzed. Methods : Target study subjects were those who are over 18 years of age and were diagnosed with cancer more than four months prior at the National Cancer Center and 9 Regional Cancer Centers in Korea during the period from July to August of 2008. Quarter sampling was conducted according to the ratio of the type of each cancer. A face to face interview survey was conducted. A total of 2,661 cancer patients finished the survey. Medical charts were reviewed in order to obtain the cancer type and SEER stage of cancer patients. An ordered logistic regression model was used to examine the level of need for financial assistance according to the demographical, clinical, and socio-economic variables of cancer patients. Result : The percentage of cancer patients who needed financial assistance was 69.0%, and 36.9% needed significant financial assistance. The need for financial assistance was perceived to be greater in males, younger age group, low income group, low education group, medical aid recipients, those who were diagnosed recently, those with a low level of quality of life measured through EQ5D, and those with decreased income after cancer diagnosis. Conclusion : In spite of the current policy to increase health insurance coverage, the majority of cancer patients and their families in Korea still need financial assistance due to cancer. In particular, there were more vulnerable groups, such as the low income, or low education group. In the future, policies that focus on the disadvantaged, which strengthen social security, should be considered for achievement of a substantially better quality of life for cancer patients and their families.

  • This essay introduces the basic method and program required to meet some necessary conditions of building university archives. By the phrase 'method and program', I intend the effective means of regularly but circumstantially controling the ways to the archival purposes proper which can be defined as the keeping of evidences and the broadening of information pool in terms of the evidential and informational natures or values of records. My starting point is about the matters of overcoming a standard method of induction which has long prescribed much passive procedures in the archival work. Considering the differences in the records and archives management-practices between West and Korea, I tentatively try to add some active elements to the archival work among which the collection for the expanding evidences and informations may firstly emphasized. While this collecting activity normally depends on the existing 'collections' and 'manuscripts', I cannot exclude the possibility of collections the materials, being likely to be registered in any poor or insufficient record groups. In the similar context, this kind of activity may and must be expanded beyond the university boundaries so at to arrange the cornerstones of archive-based local studies in the various disciplines. Here I premise another role of university archives, the role as 'science archives'. These archives within university archives seem likely to function in likewise the special collections within Western university libraries. What I mean here, however, is the archival groups purposedly gathered or acquisited according to more detail and narrower plan in order to meet the various demands from the different disciplines for the primary sources. The archival procedures from this revised method and program may, I hope, satisfy some of the preconditions of building university archives before the archives will actually function as a sub-institution of an university preserving legal, administrative and financial evidences, thus keeping identity and continuity of the university on the one hand, and as a local information center of supplying the archival contents on effectual demand from the field of local studies on the other. Finally, I conclude with a suggestion concerning the cooperation of all the parties of archival works. Proposing the 'Regional Research Center Program' in the field of technology and engineering as a model for the cooperation, I suggest that universities, private/public organizations, and central and local governments may work together for surveying the scattered ancient and modern documents as well as for building archives under the matching fund.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the conflict frames in the process of designating the national geopark, among local residents, geology experts, and local public officials. For this purpose, the progress of the public hearing on the implementation of the national geopark in Buan and Gochang were recorded with prior consent from the participants and transferred in text form. Subsequently, we developed a reference frames for analyzing conflict frames through literature review, and analyzed the conflict frames by three researchers based on this. These analyzed conflict frames were again analyzed by using semantic network analysis. The results are as follows. In the Buan area, 'Sagree' frame, 'Snot' frame, and 'Sdisagree' frame showed high eigenvector centrality, and 'Gharm' frame and 'Cmeconomy' frame were closely connected to the 'Snot' frame located at the center of the semantic network. In the Gochang area, 'Aresource' frame, 'Cmexample' frame, and 'Gharm' frame showed high eigenvector centrality, and 'Gharm' frame and 'Cmproblemsolution' frame were closely connected to the 'Snot' frame located at the center of the semantic network. Through these results, we could see that there is still the conflict about the certification of national geopark between stakeholders in Buan, and that Gochang's stakeholders are proudly aware of their own resources. The Buan's stakeholders focused on economic gains in resolving conflicts, while Gochang's stakeholders focused on problem solving. This result of this study provides information in conflict from the national geopark in other regions.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to identify factors affecting the duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder. Methods: Six-hundred patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder were recruited from mental health welfare centers in Gwangju Metropolitan City and Gyeonggi-do. Subjects were categorized into two groups according to median DUP. Demographic and clinical characteristics were compared between the two groups. Results: The mean DUP was 80.8 weeks, and the median DUP was 15.9 weeks. Patients with Medicaid, higher age, and longer duration of the schizophrenia prodrome were more likely to have a longer DUP. The DUP was shorter in patients who were consulted by family/relatives prior to treatment. Patients visiting university hospitals were more likely to have a shorter DUP compared with those visiting psychiatric clinics or small-sized mental hospitals, i.e., with less than 100 beds. A multivariate regression analysis showed that the duration of the prodrome was a factor that significantly affected DUP. Conclusion: The vulnerable group of patients with schizophrenia with a long DUP should be monitored closely. Moreover, it is necessary to develop a strategy to identify patients who have an insidious course of psychosis to reduce the DUP.

  • Oceanic wind waves have been recognized as one of the important indicators of global warming and climate change. It is necessary to study the spatial and temporal variability of significant wave height (SWH) and wave direction in the Yellow Sea and a part of the East China Sea, which is directly affected by the East Asian monsoon and climate change. In this study, the spatial and temporal variability including seasonal and interannual variability of SWH and wave direction in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea were analyzed using European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Reanalysis 5 (ERA5) data. Prior to analyzing the variability of SWH and wave direction using the model reanalysis, the accuracy was verified through comparison with SWH and wave direction measurements from Ieodo Ocean Science Station (I-ORS). The mean SWH ranged from 0.3 to 1.6 m, and was higher in the south than in the north and higher in the center of the Yellow Sea than in the coast. The standard deviation of the SWH also showed a pattern similar to the mean. In the Yellow Sea, SWH and wave direction showed clear seasonal variability. SWH was generally highest in winter and lowest in late spring or early summer. Due to the influence of the monsoon, the wave direction propagated mainly to the south in winter and to the north in summer. The seasonal variability of SWH showed predominant interannual variability with strong variability of annual amplitudes due to the influence of typhoons in summer.
