  • Anterior mandible defects result in loss of support for the tongue, floor of the mouth and lower lip, resulting in impairment of airway, feeding, and speech. We treated four patients with these "Andy Gump" deformities. Reconstruction was performed with two free flaps: a fibula osteocutaneous flap for the anterior mandible and floor of the mouth, and a soft tissue free flap for the lip, chin, and anterior neck. The lower lip was suspended cranially with fascia or tendon grafts±mini-temporalis turndown flaps. All flaps survived completely. All patients were tube feed-dependent before surgery; they all resumed an oral diet. All tracheostomies were decannulated. Lip competence was restored as evidenced by cessation of drooling. Speech improved from unintelligible to intelligible with frequent repetitions. Objective assessment was performed with the functional intraoral Glasgow scale; the mean FIGS score improved from 3.25 (range 3-4) to 11 (range 9-13). We conclude that composite anterior mandible and tongue defects have large tissue requirements that require multiple free flaps. Reconstruction leads to significant improvement in function.

  • The research focused on evaluating the impact of olive leaf water extract (OEx4) on the microbiological and physical properties of egg gels, as well as its ability to protect the rheological properties of gel throughout freeze-thaw cycles. Egg gels with added OEx4 at concentrations of 0.03% and 0.1% (w/w) a to minced whole egg and egg white were frozen at -20℃ for five days, undergoing three freeze-thaw cycles. The weight of the OEx4-egg gels was constant throughout the cycles, in contrast to the control egg gels without OEx4, which displayed accelerated thawing weight loss. The OEx4-egg gels maintained their water-holding capacity, breaking strength, elasticity, and viscosity, but the control egg gels saw a decrease. Using scanning electron microscopy, it was discovered that the OEx4-egg gels even after freezing retained a structure similar to their non-frozen condition, in contrast to the control egg gels. These findings suggest that OEx4 imparts freeze-resistance to egg gels. Additionally, OEx4 application improved the interaction between non-polar groups and water molecules, in egg gels leading to a rise in pH. Then, OEx4 has been found to effectively hinder the proliferation of bacteria while also minimizing the occurrence of gel contamination in eggs subjected to the freeze-thaw process. Therefore, OEx4 proves to be beneficial in enhancing the physical, chemical and microbiological properties of frozen processed poultry products.

  • Wet chemical etching methods were utilized to conduct Si surface texturing, which could enhance photoelectrochemical hydrogen generation rate. Two different etching methods tested, which were anisotropic metal-catalyzed electroless etching and isotropic etching. The Si nano-texture that was fabricated by the anisotropic etching showed ~25% increase in photocurrent for H2 generation. The photocurrent enhancement was attributed to the reduced reflection loss at the nano-textured Si surface, which provided a layer of intermediate density between water and the Si substrate.

  • Petrochemicals contain a wide variety of monomers and their derivatives which are used in the production of plastics, fibers and synthetic rubber. Until now, petrochemicals have had a dramatic impact on our food, clothing, shelter and leisure because they are the least expensive, most readily available, and can be processed most easily into the end use products. Petrochemical industry, which is known as one of the typical cycle profitability businesses, is now moving downward. In order to overcome the anticipated loss of profit, petrochemical companies are making an effort to offer a value-added upgrading to conventional products. This lecture will discuss a few of issues on the current status and prospect of petrochemical industry.

  • In This paper, the 4$\times$4 microstrip patch array antenna for millimeter-wave is designed and fabricated. Before that, a patch antenna is designed to analyze the property in the millimeter-wave. Also, the excitation is implemented using edge and prove feeding. The array method is used to design the 2x1 array with corporate feeding network. Measured antenna shows 12.77 dBi gain, 37.65 GHz center frequency, -29.78 return loss and 680 MHz band width.

  • Recently, the recycled amount of electric, mechanical parts, and appliances in artifacts has increased. These products use valuable rare metals such as platinum group metals and gold, which are included occasionally as additives. Rare metals are maldistributed in the world and most of them are produced in small quantities. A small amount of rare metals used in the appliances causes a large loss of rare metal resources because of the lack of an economically recycling method. The present recycling technologies including physical and chemical separation methods that are considered for recycling of electric, mechanical parts and appliances.

  • An extensive study on miniaturized bandpass filter(BPF) appropriate for mobile communication systems is presented in this paper. The miniaturization has been accomplished by incorporating low-loss high-index materials inside a resonating cavity fabricated in silicon substrate using micromachining etching techniques. By use of materials with dielectric constant $\varepsilon_r$=500, filters with volume less than 0.11 $mm^3$ have been designed at the center frequency of 5.8 GHz with 3.3% bandwidth. The electrical performances and design tolerances of these filters for a variety of materials and shapes are discussed and design guidelines are presented herein.
