FR-4 Substrate-Based Metamaterial Lens to Improve Signal Strengths of the Antenna for RF Sensing and Cost Reduction, and Observation of Its Frequency Response (밀리미터파 무선센싱의 신호 강도 향상과 센서 개발비용 절감을 위한 FR-4 기판 메타재질 렌즈의 설계 및 주파수 응답특성의 관찰)

  • For wirelessly connecting the RF sensing of the radar with a long distant object, the system must have antennas of a high gain. Conventionally, they adopt arrays and curved lenses, but have problems of conductor and dielectric loss in the feed and ending up with a large volume. This paper proposes an FR-4-substrate flat metasurface lens to intensify the RF signal, which undergoes design, fabrication and test. To verify the design method, the antenna sized 64×64mm2 is prototyped by inexpensive FR-4 PCB etching process and its S11 and radiated wave are measured. Gain increase of around 10 dB and high directivity are observed at the K-band.

Testicular toxicity of DA-125, a new anthracycline anticancer agent, in beagle dogs (비글견에 있어서 새로운 안트라싸이클린계 항암제 DA-125의 정소독성연구)

  • To assess the testicular toxicity induced by DA-125, a new anthracycline anticancer agent, the test substance was intraveneously administered to male beagle dogs at dose levels of 0, 0.0023, 0.0375, 0.15, and 0.6 mg/kg/day, 6 days a week for 26 weeks. At 0.6 mg/kg/day, 1 out of 3 dogs had died on day 42 of treatment and the other dogs were sacrificed on days 46 and 122 of treatment due to the increasingly severe clinical condition. Clinical signs considered to be related to treatment were included anorexia, vomiting, salivation, decreased activity, mucous and/or dark faeces, diarrhea, and swelling, abscess and/or ulceration of injection sites. Suppression in body weight gain, reduction in food intake, decreases in testicular weight and size, and hemorrhage of epididymis were also observed in male dogs. Microscopically, severe degenerative changes such as atrophy of seminiferous tubules, loss of germ cells, degeneration of germ cells, vacuolization of Sertoli cells, and hyperplasia of Leydig cells were observed in all dogs. Azoospermia in epididymal tubules, atrophy of epithelia in the cauda epididymis, and prostate atrophy were also found. At 0.15 mg/kg/day, anorexia, vomiting, salivation, diarrhea, and swelling of injection sites were observed. In addition, suppression in body weight gain and decreases in testicular weight and size were found in male dogs. Atrophy of seminiferous tubules, decrease of germ cells, degeneration, exfoliation and retention of germ cells, vacuolization of Sertoli cells, and hyperplasia of Leydig cells were observed by histopathological examination. Azoospermia in epididymal tubules and prostate atrophy were also found. At 0.0375 mg/kg/day, there were no clinical signs considered to be indicative of a reaction to treatment, but testicular size was significantly reduced. Microscopically, decreases in the number of spermatogonia and epidydimal speramtozoa were found. There were no evidences of general or testicular toxicity at 0.0023 mg/kg/day. These results indicate that DA-125 produces significant and persistent damage to the spermatogenic compartments of the testes in male beagle dogs.

  • Due to population growth and urban development in construction technology has expanded living space, underground construction as public transport as has been extended to the ground and underground urban traffic congestion increases.   • A commercial egg parasitoid, Trichogramma sp. Nabis101, was released into agricultural cultivating areas in Korea due to its wide host spectrum against insect pests. Moreover, an application technique has been recently developed to enhance its control efficacy by mixture treatment with a microbial control agent. Despite its expansion of commercial availability, any genetic identification on this commercial strain was not determined. Also, to meet inconsistent demands from consumers, the live parasitoids need to be stored without significant loss of their survival and parasitic activity. This study determined nucleotide sequence of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of the wasp species. The identified ITS sequences indicate that this wasp species is most similar to T brasiliensis. Optimal storage condition of this wasp required young parasitized stage at $10^{\circ}C$. Under these conditions, survival, sex ratio, longevity, and parasitic behavior were not much impaired for 5 weeks.

A neonate with hyperornithinemia-hyperammonemia-homocitrullinuria syndrome from a consanguineous Pakistani family

  • Hyperornithinemia-hyperammonemia-homocitrullinuria (HHH) syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive urea cycle disorder. HHH is caused by a deficiency of the mitochondrial ornithine transporter protein, which is encoded by the solute carrier family 25, member 15 (SLC25A15) gene. Recently, government supported Korean newborn screening has been expanded to include a tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) measurement of ornithine level. We report a case of a neonate with HHH syndrome showing a normal MS/MS measurement of ornithine level. A female newborn was admitted to neonatal intensive unit due to familial history of HHH syndrome. Her parents were consanguineous Parkistani couple. The subject's older sister was diagnosed with HHH syndrome at age of 30 months based on altered mental status and liver dysfunction. Even though the subject displayed normal ammonia and ornithine levels based on MS/MS analysis, a molecular test confirmed the diagnosis of HHH syndrome. At 1 month of age, amino acid analysis of blood and urine showed high levels of ornithine and homocitrulline. After 11 months of follow up, she showed normal growth and development, whereas affected sister showed progressive cognitive impairment despite no further hyperammonemia after protein restriction and standard therapy. Our report is in agreement with a previous Canadian study, which showed that neonatal samples from HHH syndrome patients demonstrate normal ornithine levels despite having known mutations. Considering the delayed rise of ornithine in affected patients, genetic testing, and repetitive metabolic testing is needed to prevent patient loss in high risk patients.

Effects of Replacing Pork with Tuna Levels on the Quality Characteristics of Frankfurters

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of pork and tuna levels on the quality characteristics of frankfurters and to establish a suitable percentage of added tuna. The levels of pork meat (PM) and yellow-fin tuna (YFT) in the test frankfurters were as follows: 100% PM (control), 90% PM+10% YFT (T1), 80% PM+20% YFT (T2), 70% PM+30% YFT (T3), 60% PM+40% YFT (T4), and 50% PM+50% YFT (T5). The pH of the frankfurter batters significantly decreased with increasing tuna levels, because the pH of the tuna is lower than that of the pork. The water holding capacity did not differ significantly in frankfurters containing up to 30% tuna, whereas that of the 40% tuna-containing frankfurter was significantly lower than the control. Cooking loss did not differ significantly. At up to 10% tuna, apparent viscosity did not differ significantly, whereas at 20% tuna, it was significantly lower than the control. Fat separation and total expressible fluid separation at up to 30% tuna did not differ from the control; however, when more than 30% was added, higher losses were observed. The hardness of frankfurters containing more than 40% tuna was lower than that of the control, but there was no significant difference in springiness. The overall acceptability of frankfurters manufactured with up to 30% tuna did not differ significantly from the control. These results suggest that the addition of 30% tuna does not affect the quality of frankfurters made from pork.

The Outcome of Nutrition Support of Surgery Patients with Hypermetabolic Severity by Total Parenteral Nutrition and Enteral Nutrition and Biochemical Data (경장영양과 중시정맥영양을 공급받는 외과계 수술 환자의 과대사 정도에 따른 영양 섭취량 및 생화학적 검사 결과)

  • This study evaluated the nutrition intake and changes in laboratory data of surgery patients with hypermetabolic severity on nutrition support. From January 2002 to September 2002, 66 hospitalized surgery patients who had received enteral nutrition (EN, n=19) and total parenteral nutrition (TPN, n=47) for more than 7 days were prospectively and retrospectively recruited. The laboratory data was examined pre-operatively, and on the post-operative 1, 3, 7 day and at the time of discharge. The characteristics of the patients were examined for the hypermetabolic severity, The hypermetabolic scores were determined by high fever ($>38^{\circ}C$), rapid breathing (>30 breaths/min), rapid pulse rate (>100 beats/min) , leukocytosis ($WBC>12,000/{\mu}l$), leukocytopenia ($WBC>3,000/{\mu}l$), status of infection, inflammatory bowel disease, surgery and trauma. The scores for the hypermetabolic status were divided into three groups (mild 0-10, moderate 11-40, severe>41). According to the results of the study, 38.3% (n=23), 45.4% (n=30) and 19.6% (n=13) were in the mild, moderate, and severe groups, respectively. There was a decrease in the serum albumin level and weight loss according to the hypermetabolic severity. However, the white blood cells (WBC), fasting blood sugar (FBS), c-reactive protein (CRP), total bilirubin, GOT, and GPT increased. The nutritional intake was TPN (32.5 kcal/kg, protein 1.2 g/kg, fat 0.25 g/kg), EN (28.1 kcal/kg, protein 1.0 g/kg, fat 1.01 g/kg). The serum albumin, hemoglobin and cholesterol were higher in the EN group than in the TPN group. But the FBS, total bilirubin, GOT and GPT were higher in the TPN group than the EN group. In conclusion, there was a negative correlation between the changes in the laboratory data and the hypermetabolic severity. There was an increase in the number of metabolic complications in the TPN group.

Ursodeoxycholic Acid Ameliorates Pain Severity and Cartilage Degeneration in Monosodium Iodoacetate-Induced Osteoarthritis in Rats

  • Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease characterized by a progressive loss of cartilage. And, increased oxidative stress plays a relevant role in the pathogenesis of OA. Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is a used drug for liver diseases known for its free radical-scavenging property. The objectives of this study were to investigate the in vivo effects of UDCA on pain severity and cartilage degeneration using an experimental OA model and to explore its mode of actions. OA was induced in rats by intra-articular injection of monosodium iodoacetate (MIA) to the knee. Oral administration UDCA was initiated on the day of MIA injection. Limb nociception was assessed by measuring the paw withdrawal latency and threshold. Samples were analyzed macroscopically and histologically. Immunohistochemistry was used to investigate the expression of interleukin-$1{\beta}$ (IL-$1{\beta}$), IL-6, nitrotyrosine and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in knee joints. UDCA showed an antinociceptive property and attenuated cartilage degeneration. OA rats given oral UDCA significantly exhibited a decreased number of osteoclasts in subchondral bone legion compared with the vehicle-treated OA group. UDCA reduced the expression of IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-6, nitrotyrosine and iNOS in articular cartilage. UDCA treatment significantly attenuated the mRNA expression of matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3), -13, and ADAMTS5 in IL-$1{\beta}$-stimulated human OA chondrocytes. These results show the inhibitory effects of UDCA on pain production and cartilage degeneration in experimentally induced OA. The chondroprotective properties of UDCA were achieved by suppressing oxidative damage and inhibiting catabolic factors that are implicated in the pathogenesis of cartilage damage in OA.

  • Early childhood caries which mainly affect maxillary anterior area, defined as 'the presence of 1 or more decayed, missing, or filled tooth surfaces in any primary tooth in a child 71 months of age or younger'. Extraction of teeth when early childhood caries affected in maxillary primary incisors often develops progressively, result in severe destruction of crowns, acute or chronic pulpitis, and periapical abscess formation. Maxillary primary incisors are need to preserve as possible, because the early loss of maxillary primary incisors may lead to various functional, esthetical, and psychological problems. It is necessary to the availability of an easy to perform technique capable of providing efficient, durable, functional, and esthetic restorative methods. Polyethylene fiber-reinforced post can be used in strengthen of composite resins that is esthetic and good physical and mechanical properties. $Ribbond^{(R)}$ is made from an polyethylene fiber, has numerous usages, its surface is treated to enhance adhesion to resins, ease of manipulation, relatively cost effective. We report this case, had restored of maxillary primary incisors with severe coronal destruction due to affecting severe early childhood caries, using polyethylene fiber-reinforced posts, composite resin cores, and celluloid crowns. We could obtain good result of treatment.

Assessment of Slope Failures Potential in Forest Roads using a Logistic Regression Model (로지스틱 회귀분석을 이용한 임도붕괴 위험도 평가)

  • Slope failures in forest roads often result in social and economic loss as well as environmental damage. This study was carried out to assess susceptibility of slope failures of forest roads in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do where many slope failures occurred after heavy rainfall in 2013 using GIS and logistic regression analysis. The results showed that sandy soil (6.616) in soil texture type had the highest susceptibility to slope failures while medium class (-3.282) in tree diameter showed the lowest susceptibility. A error matrix for both slope failure and non-slope failure area was made and a model was developed showing a classification accuracy of 74.6%. Non-slope failures area in the forest roads were classified mostly in the range of >0.7 which was higher values than the classification criteria (0.5) used by the logistic regression model. It is suggested that considering forest environment and site factors related to forest road failures would improve the accuracy in predicting susceptibility of slope failures.
