  • This article examines the general status of the Censored texts, censorship status, censorship characteristics and meaning, which were confirmed through the Korean Old novel's Censored Edition and Napbon. The censored texts version of the Korean novel can be divided into manuscripts, woodblock-printed books written with chinese characters and Hangeul, old printed novel. Korean Old novels were also censored during the Japanese colonial period but the actual censorship did not reflect the instructions issued during the publication process. This can be said to be a feature of the old book censorship when compared with the modern/modern literature, magazines, and socialist books. As such, the novel was censored but relatively loose, so the publishers focused on publishing the novel. As a result, during the Japanese colonial period, the number of readers increased, and the publishing house was booming, resulting in duplication of the same works by different publishers. In the meantime, academics have discussed the reason why the novel has become popular from the 1910s to the 1930s. But I could not discuss it in terms of censorship and Nap-bon. Now we need to approach this aspect.

A Study on Factors Influencing Self-Censorship in Selection in Elementary School Libraries (초등학교도서관의 자료 선정에서 자기 검열에 대한 영향 요인 연구)

  • This study aims to explore ways to improve self-censorship tendency in teacher librarians by identifying factors that influence the self-censorship which appears during collection development in elementary school libraries. For this purpose, first, we examined the concept of self-censorship through a review of related literature, then carried out a series of in-depth interviews as a pilot study to develop a questionnaire, which was used for a questionnaire survey. Finally, the survey data was analyzed statistically with SPSS 21.0, a statistical package. As a result, we have discovered statistically significant relationships between self-censorship and the characteristics in collection development policies, school library committees, and the complaints related with the library collections. Based on these results, the factors on the self-censorship were identified in the perception of the school librarians. Based on these results, we suggest to reinforce the function of review and approval of book selection in the school library committee, developed and approved a collection development policy include guidelines for dealing with users' complaints related to library collection, and stipulated a regulation for school library operation to remove inappropriate books from the library collection.

  • This study aimed to find ways to reduce self-censorship by identifying the conflict and attribution to the motivation for self-censorship during the curriculum of the College of Arts. The analysis confirmed the significance of each relationship by conducting a correlation and regression analysis between the variables, and the analysis of the effects was based on the significant factors among them. The analysis showed the external locus of control toward self-censorship and interpersonal conflict had a partial mediation effect. In other words, as the degree of conflict in the educational environment increases, art college students are aware of the cause of the problem due to external characteristics such as others, task difficulty, etc., and thus confirmed the conclusion that frustration and shame caused by it become the motive for self-censorship.

  • The aim of this essay is to illustrate Sunjung Manhwa in the 1970s which has been alienated in comics studies. This essay analyses the articles and the serial comics in Schoolgirl, the magazine in the 1970s, and examines the ideal representations of the girls at that time. Sunjung Manhwa is really different between the 1960s and 1970s. It cannot be explained on this gap just by analyzing Sunjung Manhwa in book form alone. Even though the censorship on comics was the element that has hampered the development of comics as a whole, the slumps of Sunjung Manhwa in the 1970s were very excessive compared to other comics genres. This article can gain the answers to the reason of the changes of Sunjung Manhwa by studying the magazines which was the main mass media aimed at girls with Sunjung Manhwa. While the articles in magazines show the editing direction and its characteristics, they reflect the values and ideologies at that time. The same is true for the comics in the magazines. Especially, the comics in the magazines was relatively free from the censorship. This essay examined how the articles and the comics in the girls' magazine in the 1970s represented the images of girls at the time by focusing on feature articles and comics in the magazine, Schoolgirl. This article explored Um, Hee-Ja's Blue Zone and Bang, Young-Jin's Mini March among a full-length serial comics in the magazine, Schoolgirl. Both Blue Zone and Mini March reveal the images of an ideal girl that has been emphasized by the articles in Schoolgirl. Blue Zone draws the appearances of an earnest and obedient daughter, and Mini March represents the figures of a cheerful and bright girl. Through this study, it can be recognized that the magazines in the 1970s highly appraised girls who are obedient to a given society and serve to a harmonious family as ideal ones, and it might be guessed that the ideal images of girls that was characterized ceaselessly by the magazines were the standard of the censorship on comics and its creativity and had also a huge impact on the contents and the expressions of a great deal of works. The 1970s was the times when its importance has been lost in the history of the comics studies by the censorship on the comics and the monopoly of "Hapdong(합동) publisher." The limits of expression in terms of censorship were awfully distinct, so its result was few of good works in quality, and there are still many blanks in the study on 1970s' comics. This study has a meaning which fills up a blank in the comics studies.

The Genealogy of Rebellious Communication and Twitter A Discourse Analysis of the Park Jung-geun Case ('불온 통신'의 계보와 '트위터' 박정근 사건에 대한 담론 분석을 중심으로)

  • This study starts from the awareness that 'rebellious communication' is still being regulated in various ways even though 'rebellious communication' was declared unconstitutional in a decision by the Constitutional Court in 2002. The meaning of 'rebellious' has been amplified and transformed at various points through the censorship systems established during the Japanese colonial era, the US military period, and the regime of Park Jung-hee. In particular, 'rebellious communication' is regulated to protect 'national security' and 'social customs' from the perspective of power. This study analyzed discourses containing judgement about the Park Jung-geun case and the violation of the National Security Law using retweet accounts or posts related to North Korea. This study explores the genealogy of 'rebellious communication' based on its relationship to the characteristics of Twitter and specific individuals.

The Exploratory Study on Prevention of illegal Medical Advertisement in Healthcare Market

  • It is natural that the medical advertisement should be guaranteed as part of the basic commercial activities of medical institutions. However, the general public are non-specialist and they have less informed about medical care than medical specialists, and it is not easy to judge and select medical information. Also, if someone damaged by illegal medical advertising, it cannot be recovered to the original. In this regard, medical advertising has been legislated so that medical organizations can pre - screen the medical laws. However, In December 2015, after the Constitutional Court ruled unconstitutional preliminary censorship, it became virtually impossible to pre-screen. In recent years, illegal medical advertisement have been on the rise, and false and exaggerated medical advertising are increasing the damage to medical consumers. Therefore it is urgent to take countermeasures about this. Thus, this paper try to analyzes the characteristics of general commercial and other medical advertisements and looks for alternatives that can minimize the damage caused by illegal medical advertisements and institutional weaknesses by analyzing the regulatory trends in medical advertising.

Clothing Norms & Conflict of 20·30s Women in Work Place -Focus on Types of Work Places- (한국 20·30대 여성의 직장 복식규범과 갈등 -직장의 유형에 따른 현황조사를 중심으로-)

  • This study examined the fashion culture of 20-30s working women through clothing norm relationships in the workplace. A literature research was conducted along with qualitative research, in-depth interviews in order to understand the domestic working environment and fashion culture such as lifestyle and consumer culture characteristics of 20-30s working women. The results were: First, it showed that the increased number of members having various inclinations caused subcultures through an increase of women's economic activities and transition to a knowledge-information society in domestic work places that changed into a business casual that recognized employees' autonomy and diversity. Second, in the working place, clothing norms coexist as stipulated by statutes, company rules, and official documents as well as others implied by experiences of sanction against members. Workplace closing norms are classified into norms of exposure that draw attention to clothes and casual clothes. Third, it showed that factors pressuring clothing norms are classified as external pressures and by spontaneous self-censorship that cause conflict and confusion with working women's fashion according to the degree of pressure. Two kinds of pressure by others (or types of departments and members) were observed.

Post-War Zainichi Magazines in Japan and Zainichi Society -Focusing on the Quickening Period until 1959- (전후 재일잡지미디어 지형과 재일사회 -1959년까지의 태동기를 중심으로-)

  • This paper summarizes the genealogy of post-war Zainichi magazines in Japan until 1959 and examines their meaning in the context of magazine history in Japan. The purpose of this paper is to prepare the framework to view characteristics of Zainichi magazines in Japan after the war until the present from a continuous and comprehensive perspective. Zainichi, who were left behind in Japan after the war began to project diverse aspects of their lives onto magazines. Despite the poor publishing environment, censorship of GHQ, shortage of writers and financial limitations, the Zainichi society did not give up the public sphere of magazines. The confusion in this time period acted as an element to expose limitations of Zainichi magazines in Japan. Most of magazines published in 1940s and 50s had to focus on political propaganda within the political frame, and many of such magazines were only published for a short term. In other words, it is ambiguous to define the majority of them as 'magazines' and a considerable number of them cannot even confirm the existence, making it difficult to examine the whole picture of magazines from this period. However, recently excavated materials indicate that most of Zainichi magazines in Japan attempted to reflect the reality of the Zainichi society in various ways, though they were confined in the political frame. The process in which language of magazines was changed from Korean language to Japanese and then again to Korean language suggests that Zainichi magazines in Japan tried to consistently express their existence in 'ethnicity,' 'homeland' and beyond, mediated by 'politics' and 'culture.' Moreover, the experience of seeking for the possibility of Zainichi culture in Japan from the flow of cultural movements in Japan during 1950s is an experience of seeking for a popular 'expression' that overcomes the political conflict of homeland. This reveals the diversity the Zainichi society to occur afterwards. A more precise study on individual magazines published during this period would be necessary in the future.

The Analysis of Content Regulation on Social Network Service(SNS): Focusing on the Problem of Legal and Administrative Regulation (표현매체로서 SNS(Social Network Service)에 대한 내용규제의 문제점 분석: 법률적.행정적 규제를 중심으로)

  • Social Network Service(SNS), which are an emerging form of political architecture, have been a political means to promote civic engagement and shape pubic opinions on social issues. Along with the influence of SNSs, the governmental control on the dissemination of information over SNSs has increased more and more. It would be ideal if the autonomous governance regulates SNSs which facilitate the networks of the dispersed people. It is the fact, though, that compulsory regulations under which the government controls impose policy and legal restrictions on political expressions. The current study addresses expressive and participatory nature embedded in technological characteristics of SNSs and discusses the problems of content regulations of political expression over SNSs. First of all, it is analyzed that light touch regulation or light touch monitoring should be applied to regulating content on SNSs, particularly political expressions. Constitutional Court proclaimed that legal restrictions on the Internet could infringe basic rights of the people and thus under unambiguous standards, the Doctrine of Clear and Present Danger should be applied to its content. Second, it is found that clarifying the definition of illegality in the application of legal restrictions is necessary to minimize the excessive misleading. Third, it is required that Korea Communications Standards Commission under the government control needs to change in determining the scope of illegal information. In a domestic level, there needs to be safeguards for the protection of the self-regulatory organization such as KISO to guarantee voluntary and autonomous regulatory practices.

  • This thesis looks into the interpretation of the Korean War and mystery genre in Korea in the 1970s by analyzing the special drama , in which the theme was directly related to the Korean War, airing through MBC in 1979. It begins by finding the change in direction in the 1970s when the world of TV was dictated through the heavy censorship and the memory of the war by the government. It also looks at the intentions of the producer who was taking in the new way and the viewers who also accepted this drama and its reflections. In order to gain some insights into these issues, it compares between the drama "The Last Witness" and the original novel by Seong-jong Kim who holds the same time to see the way in which this is dramatized. The drama, "The Last Witness", was produced with a plan to generate a high-quality special drama which combined both artistry and sense of purpose. Nevertheless, as watching TV became a leisurely past-time during this period, TV dramas become more aggressive and suggestive in order to attract viewers. This ultimately was encored with obstacles due to the regime and the heavy censorship at the time. The genre of special drama that is well known in South Korea, is designed as an art form to satisfy both their unique artistry and its purpose. The conflict is seen between the key elements of the artistic drama crated by the producers and the 'encouraged' elements that often are needed to engage the viewers. Thus, more often than not, special dramas defeat the original intention of national harmony, encouraged by the regime. This is due to the 'novelty' aspect which grows from the effort of bringing enjoyment to viewers whilst also trying to achieve the artistic drama to life. Alongside this, crime element in this drama is designed in a way that visually embodies the process of deduction, becoming a new possibility to secure the reality of the times. However, it was also a paradoxical existence since it was indicated as an example of unrefined culture that lost its original intention. In that way, it is worth to think that detective suspense stories, which were not popular in Korea, influenced viewers as a tv drama series in the 1970s through the various elements that compose the genre. They went through a process of transplantation and acceptance whilst also attempting to satisfy the viewers and their encouraged elements to engage them. As is well known, crime drama in Korea has its own style by mixing anticommunism and detective reasoning. This combination is found in the way in which the genre naturally forms through the elements selected and excluded in the dramatization of "The Last Witness". The point is that the special drama "The Last Witness" can be seen as an intermediate form that shows the tendency of transformation from the detective reasoning form alongside the crime aspects as TV dramas began to include anticommunism messaging and investigation in the 1970s. In conclusion, when the detective reasoning is used as an element in a TV drama, it shows the trust of the public system and it constantly seeks the possibility of circumventing the political interpretation. The memories of the war is seen as a tool that neutralizes the dismal imaginations inscribed on the dark side of society and the system. As a result, "The Last Witness", broadcasted at the end of the Yushin regime in Korea, is a strange result which combines the logic of a special drama and the encouraged characteristics of television dramas. The viewers' desire which is the discussion about the hidden traces from the texts needs to be restored again.
