  • In this paper, we propose the new Cellular Ethernet System that supports faster handovers than IP layer handover scheme for WiBro Networks and analyze the performance of the proposed scheme. In WiBro Networks, it is very important for service providers that supports fast handovers for mobile users who want superior service. But in case of Mobile IPv6, which supports IP layer handovers, there exists very long latency for detecting movement and duplicated IP address. And besides, handovers in wired area must be carried out after completing handovers in wireless area. So, Mobile IPv6 cannot provide superior service to mobile users. To remedy these problems, we here propose the new Cellular Ethernet System that consists of MAC layer bridges for WiBro Networks and analyze the performance of Cellular Ethernet System handover scheme and show that it has better performance than Mobile IPv6.

  • Femtocells are cellular access points that connect to a mobile operator's network using residential DSL or cable broadband connections. They have been developed to work with a range of different cellular standards including CDMA, GSM and UMTS. Like legacy base station, the frequency accuracy and phase alignment is necessary for ensuring the quality of service (QoS) for applications such as voice, real-time video, wireless hand-off, and data over a converged access medium at the femtocell. But, the GPS has some problem to be used at the femtocell, because it is difficult to set-up, depends on the satellite condition, and very expensive. So, some techniques are discussed to alternate with the legacy GPS system. NTP, PTP, Synchronous Ethernet use the ethernet to synchronize distributed clocks in packet networks. AGPS support reliable position information than the legacy GPS in poor signal conditions. But, These method also have some problems. So, hybrid timing method like A-GPS+PTP and TV+GPS was developed to make up the weak point of GPS. This paper introduces the each method and compare each other and y propose much better solution for timing synchronization at the Femtocell

  • Mobile IPv6 is the representative standard protocol proposed to offer mobility of mobile hosts, but it has drawbacks such as high handover latency and packet loss during handover. To complement these drawbacks, several protocols have been proposed and they can support faster handover than the Mobile IPv6, but there still exists inevitable packet loss during handover in those protocols. In this paper, we propose a new handover procedure of mobile host who has a dual link for minimizing packet loss rate during micro handover to improve mobility capability of Cellular Ethernet system that supports mobility at layer 2. And we derive the superiority of proposed scheme by comparing in terms of packet loss rate, handover latency and throughput of proposed scheme with those of Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 which is the representative IP-layer micro mobility protocol by simulation.
