  • PDK1 is essential for T cell receptor (TCR)-mediated activation of $NF-{\kappa}B$, and PDK1-induced phosphorylation of $PKC{\theta}$ is important for TCR-induced $NF-{\kappa}B$ activation. However, inverse regulation of PDK1 by $PKC{\theta}$ during T cell activation has not been investigated. In this study, we found that $PKC{\theta}$ is involved in human PDK1 phosphorylation and that its kinase activity is crucial for human PDK1 phosphorylation. Mass spectrometry analysis of wild-type $PKC{\theta}$ or of kinase-inactive form of $PKC{\theta}$ revealed that $PKC{\theta}$ induced phosphorylation of human PDK1 at Ser-64. This $PKC{\theta}$-induced PDK1 phosphorylation positively regulated T cell activation and TCR-induced $NF-{\kappa}B$ activation. Moreover, phosphorylation of human PDK1 at Ser-64 increased the stability of human PDK1 protein. These results suggest that Ser-64 is an important phosphorylation site that is part of a positive feedback loop for human PDK1-$PKC{\theta}$-mediated T cell activation.

  • Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are green energy conversion devices, for which commercial markets have been established, owing to their application in fuel cell vehicles (FCVs). Development of cathode electrocatalysts, replacing commercial Pt/C, plays a crucial role in factors such as cost reduction, high performance, and durability in FCVs. PtNi octahedral catalysts are promising for oxygen reduction reactions owing to their significantly higher mass activity (10-15 times) than that of Pt/C; however, their application in membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) is challenged by their low stability. To overcome this durability issue, various approaches, such as third-metal doping, composition control, halide treatment, formation of a Pt layer, annealing treatment, and size control, have been explored and have shown promising improvements in stability in rotating disk electrode (RDE) testing. In this review, we aimed to compare the features of each strategy in terms of enhancing stability by introducing a stability improvement factor for a direct and reasonable comparison. The limitations of each strategy for enhancing stability of PtNi octahedral are also described. This review can serve as a valuable guide for the development of strategies to enhance the durability of octahedral PtNi.

  • In this review, we have investigated the effect of $TiO_2$-based blocking layers (t-BLs), deposited on a transparent conductive oxide (TCO)-coated glass substrate, on the photovoltaic performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The t-BL was deposited using spin-coating or sputtering technique, and its thicknesses were varied to study the influence of the thin $TiO_2$ layer in between transparent conducting glass and nanocrystalline $TiO_2$ (nc-$TiO_2$). The DSSC with the t-BL showed the improved adhesion and the suppressed charge recombination at a TCO glass substrate than those without the t-BL, which led to the higher conversion efficiency.

  • Open-cell silicon foam is difficult to cut using conventional machining processes because of its low stiffness. That is, open-cell silicon foam is easily pressed down when the tool is engaged, which makes it difficult to remove the material in the form of chip. This study proposes an advanced method of machining open-cell silicon foam by freezing the material using liquid nitrogen. Furthermore, the machining conditions are optimized to maximize the efficiency of material removal and minimize the usage of liquid nitrogen by conducting experiments under various machining conditions. The results show that open-cell silicone foam products with free surface can be successfully machined by employing the proposed method.

  • This paper describes a single transistor type ferroelectric field effect transistor (1Tr FeFET) memory cell scheme, which select one unit memory cell and program/read it. The well voltage can be controlled by isolating the common row well lines. Through applying bias voltage to Gate and Well, respectively, we implement If FeFET memory cell scheme in which interference problem is not generated and the selection of each memory cell is possible. The results of HSPICE simulations showed the successful operations of the proposed cell scheme.

  • In this study, the texturing and the emitter formation processes were carried out with the wafer adhesion method to increase the productivity and reduce the production cost of the multi-crystalline silicon solar cell. After fabricating $156{\times}156mm$ solar cell according to the wafer adhesion method, the operation characteristics were analyzed and compared with those of the solar cell fabricated by the standard process method. In the case of a solar cell formed by the wafer adhesion method, it showed Jsc of $32.87mA/cm^2$, Voc of 0.612V, FF of 78.04% and efficiency of 15.71% respectively. The efficiency of the solar cell formed by the wafer adhesion method was 0.1% higher than that of the solar cell formed by the standard method. In addition, the productivity of the texturing and the emitter formation processes is expected to be approximately doubled. Therefore, it is expected that the manufacturing cost of the multi-crystalline solar cell can be reduced due to the improved productivity compared with the standard process.

Output change simulations were performed according to several drive cycle load change of a fuel cell truck. Mathworks' Simulink and Simscape program were used to develop the model. The model is comprised of fuel cell power train, power converter system and truck vehicle part. The vehicle runs at targeted speed of the truck, which is set as the load of the system. The dynamic behavior of the fuel cell stack according to the weight difference were analyzed, and based on this, the dynamic characteristics of the fuel cell output power and battery state with simple load was analyzed.

  • According to the experiment results, the alignment of FLC cell can become more uniform at thick cell gap by adjusting the amplitude of the aligned AC electric field which is applying to the FLC cell during $N^{\ast}-SmC^{\ast}$ phase transition. If the amplitude of AC electric field is high enough, the FLC molecules forced with the amplitude and aligned to a particular direction.

  • 5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), a monoamine, as a local regulator in the mammary gland is a chemical signal produced by the mammary epithelium cell. In cows, studies have shown that 5-HT is associated with epithelial cell apoptosis during the degenerative phase of the mammary gland. However, studies in other tissues have shown that 5-HT can effectively promote cell viability. Whether 5-HT could have an effect on mammary cell viability in dairy cows is still unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine: (1) effect of 5-HT on the viability of bovine mammary epithelial cells and its related signaling pathways, (2) interaction between prolactin (PRL) and 5-HT on the cell viability. The bovine mammary alveolar cell-T (MAC-T) were cultured with different concentrations of 5-HT for 12, 24, 48 or 72 hours, and then were assayed using cell counting kit-8, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and immunobloting. The results suggested that 20 μM 5-HT treatment for 12 or 24 h promote cell viability, which was mainly induced by the activation of 5-HT receptor (5-HTR) 1B and 4, because the increase caused by 5-HT vanished when 5-HTR 1B and 4 was blocked by SB224289 and SB204070. And protein expression of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), eukaryotic translation elongation factor 2 (eEF2), janus kinase 2 (JAK2) and signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 (STAT5) were decreased after blocking 5-HT 1B and 4 receptors. When MAC-T cells were treated with 5-HT and PRL simultaneously for 24 h, both the cell viability and the level of mTOR protein were significantly higher than that cultured with 5-HT or PRL alone. In conclusion, our study suggested that 5-HT promotes the viability of MAC-T cells by 5-HTR 1B and/or 4. Furthermore, there is a reciprocal relationship between PRL and 5-HT.
