Solitary Fibrous Tumor in Buccal Cheek Mucosa

  • A solitary fibrous tumor is a relatively uncommon neoplasm that usually occurs in the pleura but occurs extremely rarely in the oral cavity. Reported herein is a rare case of a solitary fibrous tumor in the buccal cheek mucosa. A 50-year-old man visited the authors' hospital due to a buccal cheek mass whose size had increased. Excisional biopsy was done under local anesthesia. After the excisional biopsy, the patient was diagnosed to have a solitary fibrous tumor. In immunohistochemistry, the patient's solitary fibrous tumor was characterized by the expression of CD34 and CD99 on the neoplastic cells, and negativity for Bcl-2 and S-100. No recurrence or complication occurred for a period of 5 years. The growth of a primary solitary fibrous tumor in the buccal cheek mucosa is extremely rare and has been rarely reported in the South Korean medical literature. A solitary fibrous tumor must be distinguished from other spindle cell tumors. Presented herein is a case of primary solitary fibrous tumor in the buccal cheek mucosa. The relevant literature is briefly reviewed.

  • PDP 유지전원단을 위한 고효율을 갖는 새로운 페이지 쉬프트 풀브릿지 컨버터를 제안한다. 제안된 컨버터는 Rectifier로 Voltage Doubler를 사용함으로서, 큰 사이즈의 Output Inductor가 없게 되어 간단한 구조를 가지게 되며 Rectifier Diodes의 전압 스트레스가 출력전압으로 클램핑되어서 스너버회로가 필요없다는 장점을 가지게 된다. 또한 넓은 영전압 스위칭 구간을 가지며, 트랜스포머의 기생성분인 Leakage 인덕터와 Voltage doubler의 캐패시터간의 공진을 이용함으로서 전류가 작은 RMS값을 가지게 되어서 낮은 도통손실과 Rectifier Diode의 전류 스트레스 또한 낮다는 장점을 가지게 된다. 본 논문을 통해 제안된 컨버터의 동작원리와 해석, 실험을 수행하였다.

Poly(ethylene glycol) Dimethyl Ether에 대한 이산화탄소의 용해도 (Solubility of Carbon Dioxide in Poly(ethylene glycol) Dimethyl Ether)

  • 약 303 K로부터 약 343 K의 온도 범위와 약 50 bar까지의 압력 범위에서 poly(ethylene glycol) dimethyl ether(PEGDME)에 녹는 이산화탄소($CO_2$)의 용해도를 측정하였다. 가변부피 투시창이 장착된 고압용 상평형 장치를 사용하여 온도를 변화시키면서 여러 가지 조성을 갖는 $CO_2+PEGDME$ 혼합물의 기포점 압력을 측정함으로써 PEGDME에서의 고압 $CO_2$의 용해도를 결정하였다. PEGDME의 분자량이 $CO_2$ 용해도에 미치는 영향을 관찰하기 위하여, 두 가지 종류의 분자량을 가진 PEGDME 시료에 대한 $CO_2$ 용해도를 비교하였다. 압력이 증가함에 따라 PEGDME에 대한 $CO_2$ 용해도는 증가하였으며 온도가 증가함에 따라 용해도는 감소하였다. 같은 온도와 압력에서 비교할 때, 분자량이 더 큰 PEGDME는 질량분율과 몰랄농도 기준으로 더 작은 $CO_2$ 용해도를 주었으나, 몰분율 기준으로는 더 큰 $CO_2$ 용해도를 주었다.

  • 15년생 주목의 부위별 단위 질량당 taxal 함량은 줄기수피, 뿌리수피, 잎 그리고 종자의 순으로 높았 고, 종자에서는 종피 (seed caa t), 배 (embrya) 그리 고 배유(endasperm)의 순으로 taxal 함량이 높게 측정되었다. 15년생 주목 1그루로부터 이론적으로 얻을 수 있는 taxal의 양은 1.68g이었는데 잎, 줄기 수피, 뿌리수피, 종자로부터 각각 48.0, 23.8, 27.9 빛 0.4%씩 얻을 수 있었다. 주목의 taxal 함량은 서식 고도에 따라 차이가 있었다. 해발 1000m 이상 의 높은 고도에서 서식하는 주목의 taxal 함량이 낮은 고도(600-800m)에서 서식하는 주목보다 높았다. 주목 세포배양 결과 callus 및 현탁배양 세포에 셔 taxal이 검출되었으며 함량은 서l포의 상태 및 주 목의 종류에 따라 서로 차이가 있었다. 이라한 결과로 주목 세포배양에 의한 taxal 생산의 가능성을 확 인할 수 있었다.

Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate 분해세균의 분리 및 동정 (Isolation and Identification of Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate Degrading Bacteria)

  • 하수 및 토양시료로부터 다수의 LAS분해세균을 분리하고 고농도 (LAS 200ppm)의 액체 배지에서 생육하면서 분해력이 높은 KL-3, SH-2, EN-1등 3개 균주를 선발하였다. 이들의 형태적, 생리적 및 배양적 성질에 따라 KL-3은 Klebsiella속, SH-2는 Shigella속, EN-1은 Enterobacter속 균주로 각각 동정되었다. 실험실용 발효조에서의 LAS의 분해양상은 배양초기에 분해속도가 빠르고 (1 일후의 분해율: KL-3 및 SH-2, 50%; EN-1, 20%), 배양 1-2일사이에서 그 속도가 크게 지연되다가 다시 분해가 빠르게 진행되며 3, 4일후에는 다시 늦어지는 경향을 나타내었다 (7일후의 분해율: KL-3, 85%; SH-2, 82%; EN-1, 75%). 균체의 생육은 배양 2일 후에 $10^8cfu/mL$수준의 정지기에 도달하였으며 pH는 최초 7.0에서 6.2~6.7의 범위로 저하되어 서서히 변화하는 경향이었다. 균체에 의한 LAS의 흡착량은 Shigella sp. SH-2균주의 경우가 가장 많았으며 Freund1ich흡착등식 Y= 0.030X + 0.95를 나타내었다.

크론씨병(극한성(局限性) 장염(腸炎))에 관(關)한 한의학적(韓醫學的) 고찰(考察) (The oriental-western literal study of Crohn's disease)

  • We arrived at the following conclusion after we have studied crohn's disease through the literatures of western and oriental medicine. 1. Crohn's disease has a characteristic of granulomatous necrosis and cicatricial inflammation which is called by segmental enteritis, granulomatous enteritis. This falls under the category of "Diarrhea", "Dysentery" and is similar to "small intestinal diarrhea", "acute temesmus", "splenic diarrhea" in oriental medicine. 2. In western medicine, the cause of crohn's disease indefinites, but it is presumed immunological unbalance of alimentary canal. In oriental medicine, it is summarized as the abnormal ascending and descending circulation of stomach and splenic energies, the hepatic stagnation, being the lower part of cleaning qi by exogenous disease, dyspeptic convulsion. 3. The presenting symptoms of crohn's disease are intermittent chronic diarrhea, fever, weight loss, abdominal spastic pain or abdominal discomfort. When anyone has a abdominal mass, a rectal abcess, and a rectal constriction by physical examination, we can doubt crohn's disease. 4. The methods of western medical treatment are a suppression of intestinal toxic contents and inflammatory mediator, a supply of nutritive substanceus to intestinal epithelial cell. Oriental medical treatments of these are "inducing diuresis", "warming kidney to reinforce yang", "nourishing qi to invigorate spleen", "eliminatin dampness by cooling" according to syndrome differentiations. As mentioned above, we can confirm possibility of oriental medical treatment that induces recovery of immunologic control function and we need advanced experiment, study, and clinical approach.

Patterns of Plasma Fatty Acids in Rat Models with Adenovirus Infection

  • Adenoviral vectors are among the most promising vectors available for human gene therapy. However, the use of recombinant adenoviral vectors, including replicationcompetent adenovirus (RCA), raises a variety of safety concerns in relation to the development of new therapies based on gene therapy. To examine how organic compounds change in rat plasma following the injection of adenovirus, $\beta$-galactosidase expressing recombinant adenovirus (designated rAdLacZ) or RCA, we investigated the content of fatty acids (FAs), which are important biochemical indicators in pathological conditions. Pattern recognition analysis on the level of FAs in rat plasma is described for the visual discrimination of adenovirus infection groups from normal controls. Plasma FAs from four control rats (normal group), and from four rats with rAdLacZ infection and six rats with RCA infection (the two abnormal groups), were examined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in selected ion monitoring modes as their tert-butyldimethylsilyl derivatives. In total, 20 FAs were positively detected and quantified. The results of the Student's t-test on the normal mean of two abnormal groups, the levels of three FAs (p<0.05) from rAdLacZ group and eleven FAs (p<0.05) from RCA group were significantly different. When star symbol plotting was applied to the group mean values of 20 FAs after normalization to the corresponding normal mean values, the resulting eicosagonal star patterns of the two infected groups were distorted into similar shapes, but were distinguishable from each other. Thus, these approaches will be useful for screening and monitoring of diagnostic markers for the effects of infection following the use of adenoviral vectors in gene therapy.

종류식 배연 터널 화재시 배연속도가 연소율에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Effect of Ventilation Velocity on the Burning Rate in Longitudinal Ventilation Tunnel Fires)

  • In this study, the 1/20 reduced-scale experiment using Froude scaling were conducted to investigate the effect of longitudinal ventilation velocity on the burning rate in tunnel fires. The methanol pool fires with heat release rate ranging from 2.02 kW to 6.15 kW and the n-heptane pool fires with heat release rate ranging from 2.23 kW to 15.6 kW were used. The burning rate of fuel was obtained by measuring the fuel mass at the load cell. The temperature distributions were observed by K-type thermocouples in order to investigate smoke movement. The ventilation velocity in the tested tunnel was controlled by inverter of the wind tunnel. In methanol pool fire, the increase in ventilation velocity reduces the burning rate. On the contrary in n-heptane pool fire, the increase in ventilation velocity induces large burning rate. The reason for above conflicting phenomena lies on the difference of burning rate. In methanol pool fire, the cooling effect outweighs the supply effect of oxygen to fire plume, and in n-heptane pool vice versa.

Effect of Veterinary Antibiotics on the Growth of Lettuce

  • Veterinary antibiotics (VAs) has been used to treat animal disease and to increase body weight. However, released VAs in the soil via spreading of compost can transport to plant and affect its growth. Main purpose of this research was i) to monitor VAs concentration in plant and ii) to evaluate inhibition effect of VAs residuals on the plant growth. Red lettuce (Lactuca sativa) was cultivated for 35 days in the pot soil spiked with 3 different concertation (0.05, 0.5, $5.0mg\;kg^{-1}$) of chlortetracycline (CTC) and sulfamethazine (SMZ). After 35 days of cultivation, concentration of CTC and SMZ in the plant was measured. Residual of CTC and SMZ was only quantified at the range of $0.007-0.008mg\;kg^{-1}$ and $0.006-0.017mg\;kg^{-1}$ in the leaf and root respectively when high concentration ($5.0mg\;kg^{-1}$) of antibiotic was spiked in the soil. Leaf length and root mass was statistically reduced when $0.05mg\;kg^{-1}$ of CTC was spiked in the soil while no statistical difference was observed for SMZ treatment. This result might indicated that high $K_{ow}$ and $K_d$ value are the main parameters for inhibiting plant growth. Antibiotics that has a high $K_{ow}$ causing hydrophobicity and easy to bioaccumulate in the lipid cell membrane. Also, antibiotics that has a high $K_d$ properties can be sorbed in the root causing growth inhibition of the plant. Overall, management of VAs should be conducted to minimize adverse effect of VAs in the ecosystem.

뽕나무버섯(Armillaria mellea) 균사체 생산의 최적화 (Optimal Condition for Mycelial Production of Armillaria mellea)

  • 뽕나무 버섯균은 식용버섯으로써 노인병, 중풍, 현기증, 두통, 신경쇠약, 불면증, 사지마비, 소아마비, 간질 등에 효과가 있는 것으로 알려져 있으므로, 뽕나무 버섯 균사체의 고농도 배양을 위한 최적 조건확립 하고자 하였다. 뽕나무 버섯균사체 생산의 최적배지 선정을 위하여 7종의 배지를 대상으로 수행한 결과 맥아즙배지가 뽕나무 버섯 균사체 생산에 가장 우수하였다. 맥아즙 배지에서 뽕나무 버섯균 균사체 생산을 위한 적정조건은 맥아즙 농도 $15\;Brix^{\circ}$이었으며 온도, pH, 배양기간의 조건을 반응표면 분석법에 의해서 실행한 결과, $25.9^{\circ}C$, pH 5.72, 15.22일의 배양에서 3,40 g/50 ml의 최대 예측치를 나타내었다. 이는 실제 실험결과치와도 대체로 일치하는 경향이었다.
